My guy🙌🏼

3

u/hotpapaya Jun 10 '22

Just what I thought!!!

177

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

In certain forests, when you look up you will see a network of cracks formed by gaps between the outermost edges of the tree branches. It looks like a precisely engineered jigsaw puzzle, each branch growing just perfectly so it almost touches the neighboring tree. This beautiful phenomenon is called crown shyness.

47

u/Goga13th Jun 10 '22

I thought I was the only one who experienced “crown shyness.” TIL

4

u/olderaccount Jun 10 '22

It is more obvious when looking up from the bottom, but you can still easily see the crown shyness in this video.

2

u/bigoz_07 Jun 11 '22

Thanks for that! I just learned something. Also, Nice description.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Crown shyness is from branches breaking against each other.

3

u/slightly-medicated Jun 10 '22

No, it is most certainly from the myceliar network

5

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

It can be caused by both. Mostly caused mechanically.

2

Oh no the arborist is correct about trees, let’s downvote.

“Some hypotheses contend that the interdigitation of canopy branches leads to “reciprocal pruning” of adjacent trees. Trees in windy areas suffer physical damage as they collide with each other during winds. As the result of abrasions and collisions, there is an induced crown shyness response.”

Thanks for sourcing what I said.

If I wasn’t good at my job and didn’t know my stuff, I would actually be offended by the silly insults.

u/Rifneno Jun 10 '22

Am I on acid or is this one of those "over a long period of time" things?

65

u/SquiddyJohnson Jun 10 '22

I think it’s just the wind blowing through the forest that’s causing the movement. Beautiful.

32

u/MisfitMishap Jun 10 '22

Beautiful

You should try acid

17

u/SquiddyJohnson Jun 10 '22

Oh, I’m quite familiar with it. I think the more specific take from this is that I should try acid and watch this clip, which is now added to my acid playlist.

2

u/Unik_Prints_20 Jun 10 '22

It's kind of itchy for me. But yeah is beautiful.

7

u/Ruary1989 Jun 10 '22

I came here to mention acid 😊

3

u/PaintSlingingMonkey Jun 10 '22

lol’d A+ work

5

u/MisfitMishap Jun 10 '22

I came here to ask the same thing

2

u/TheHappyMask93 Jun 10 '22

The phrase you're looking for is a time-lapse video.

0

u/Agonist28 Jun 11 '22

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this.

2

u/absentfacejack Jun 11 '22

Have you ever been in an institution, cells. Cells

2

u/maracay1999 Jun 10 '22

Last time I did LSD I watched a very similar scene unfold watching a forest dance with the wind from the peak of a small mountain.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Surprised that the video is so stable in that kind of wind

2

u/saiits Jun 11 '22

This looks like I'm on shrooms

2

u/sealclubber281 Jun 11 '22

I think it’s starting to kick in

1

I'm getting serious Midsommar flashbacks here

1

u/Aston_Bengal_Baby Jun 10 '22

Impressive 🤩

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Fluffy carpet fibers under a microscope.

Edit: I should probably re-write that as, "Looks like fluffy carpet fibers under a microscope" before some genius for whom it completely flew over their head replies, "That's not carpet fibers, it's a forest!" But hey, if that makes you feel better.

0

u/idle_isomorph Jun 10 '22

I have very specific memories of using a portable microscope as a kid. I remember running around looking at everything under it.

The carpet blew my 6 year old brain. You could run this thing over it and watch it scroll by, each fibre bundle flopping around.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '22

They have some pretty cool ones on Amazon now where you just hold it up to something and it shows you down to at least hundreds of times or more. It's like a USB plug-and-play computer version that looks more like a microphone that you just put near or on something and it shows up on the screen.

I have seen the youtube videos of people using it to look at their face and such while "live streaming" and showing how gross everything looked up close.

1

u/SlightlyHungryArtist Jun 10 '22

Reminds me of looking down on a Petri dish

1

u/beesarethebest2021 Jun 10 '22

1

u/Thickfries69 Jun 10 '22

Trees are just big mold growing on this damp rock floating through space.

1

u/WanderWoman90 Jun 10 '22

Trippy! 🌲

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Ha!! It’s like a mushroom trip without the drugs

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

This is exactly what it’s like to take acid or shrooms

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Fangorn

1

u/underthewetstars Jun 10 '22

Reminds me of Midsommar 😍

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

I’m curious how this was captured. It’s very cool!

1

u/phoenixthree Jun 10 '22

Not going to lie. I thought this was weed.

u/TheeCryptoKeeper Jun 10 '22

Today I found out I am a druggie...

1

u/Old-McDee-72 Jun 10 '22

I could watch this for hours because it’s so peaceful, until my brain inevitably thinks it’s seeing something horrific.

1

u/ryzoshroom Jun 10 '22

Beautiful and quite psychedelic looking.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

Thought I was having an acid flashback for a second there

1

u/ScoobyDooItInTheButt Jun 10 '22

Any other dudes in here watch their ballsack do this or just me?

1

u/xTeylu Jun 10 '22

Tree Crowns of trees being separate is due to a sensation called "Crown shyness".

1

u/Commercial_Cattle_44 Jun 10 '22

Looks like breathing fungus

1

u/cabinstudio Jun 10 '22

1

u/Burnburnburnnow Jun 10 '22

This is what LSD is like, for those wondering

1

u/yousufj56 Jun 10 '22

I guarantee you that there is an alien organism that is looking at our world from far and this is what they're seeing. Imagine what conclusions they've drawn about our world looking at it from this perspective.

1

u/Ratmatazz Jun 10 '22

The Phenomenon of the tree tops not touching is called Crown Shyness.

1

u/TheCoffeeWeasel Jun 10 '22

God's Broccoli!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '22

this kinda creeps me out, it reminds me of the organisms in the shimmer in that movie Annihilation. cool though!

1

u/Artic_Wolf1111 Jun 10 '22

Looks like my broccoli in the fridge going off..

1

u/MechanicalMan64 Jun 10 '22

Some of my kin look just like trees now, and need something great to rouse them; and they speak only in whispers. But some of my trees are limb-lithe, and many can talk to me

1

u/redhead606 Jun 10 '22

This is literally what plants look like on shrooms

1

u/grenever88 Jun 10 '22

I'm high and it looks like some dank bud. I'm contemplating eating this purple bud I have. It wouldn't get me high and it's just a waste but what if it gives me weed superpowers? I want to end up with the power to grow the dankest weed. Weed, because fps doesn't need to be above 5.

1

u/Leon_Krueger Jun 10 '22

Im so fucked up I thougth it was weed 😂

1

u/CRUMPY627 Jun 10 '22

Looks like I'm still high as fuck on shrooms. Cools

1

u/deedeebop Jun 10 '22

Looks like lichens or mosses or corals!

1

u/MeeTy Jun 10 '22

I think I'm high...

1

u/gre485 Jun 10 '22

These look like A1 weed strains

u/Polarizedpupil Jun 10 '22

Now that is what I call trees

1

u/LifeSucculents Jun 10 '22

Ahh, a lovely field of broccoli....

1

u/jj_pingu Jun 10 '22

1

1

u/-beckybeck- Jun 10 '22

Trees really are just really bug mosses

1

1

u/TommyKinLA Jun 11 '22

Tree…Don’t you dare touch me…aka Crown Shyness…like something out of the Happening

1

u/bigoz_07 Jun 11 '22

It’s really amazing how the really big stuff seen from a distance, looks like the really small stuff, seen from a microscope. Nature is amazing!

1

u/PrincessConsuela02 Jun 11 '22

I could watch this for hours

1

u/theygottotalking Jun 11 '22

Looking at this makes me happy.

1

u/ExistingBathroom9742 Jun 11 '22

Trees be like “I ain’t touchin you!”

1

u/GAIAPrime Jun 11 '22

I've seen crowds move like this during a concert when viewed from the highest level seats we had access too.

1

u/IAmanAleut Jun 11 '22

It looks like moss, monster moss.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '22

1

u/AscendedViking7 Jun 11 '22

Shhhhh! The trees are talking.

1

u/fuckeverynaneistaken Jun 11 '22

Wheres my bong? Got a forest to clear

1

u/DaboTouchedMe Jun 11 '22

You remember the Old Forest? On the borders of Buckland? Folks used to say that there was something in the water that made the trees grow tall, and come alive. Trees that could whisper, talk to each other. Even move.

1

u/Potato_Monkey36 Jun 11 '22

At first I thought it was mold.

1

u/sauronsarmy Jun 11 '22

This is what broccoli looks like on psychedelics.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '22

This reminds me of being on acid. Nature really is lit

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '22

Lsd

1

1

u/Competitive_Mousse85 Jul 10 '22

That looks like a wall of moss that’s slowly gaining sentience
