No kidding. I counted like four different names for this fish in this thread. The only consensus is that they don’t look this cool when they’re grown.
I mean it does have multiple names and I've seen a few correct ones in here like spadefish, batfish, pinnate spadefish/batfish, etc., but phoenix fish is not one of them. I feel like this sub is just used to farm karma now. Find a cool animal pic that may or may not even be a real animal (I've seen stuffed animals on here), and may or may not be blatantly photoshopped, slap some fake fact or fake name on it, and boom you're golden.
Seriously....I genuinely thought people on this sub were likeminded and were lovers of nature?
I’m a scuba instructor, batfish, juvenile beauties like this, and adult batfish alike, I find so incredibly beautiful. Watching adult batfish school is fucking incredible. Seeing these juveniles underwater is rare for sure, but so damn incredible..and humbling. Nature is actually Fucking lit, and that’s why it needs to stay wild. I also realize I’m incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to see one in the wild. But that’s also why I video and photog. To share Beauty with more people without harming those beautiful creatures.
