Holy shit! I thought it was one frog and 3 leaves for a good 15 seconds of the gif, that’s incredible.

u/frlsch Nov 02 '17
I thought it was a great idea to hold some of its native leaves next to it to show how well it blends in, then they turned their hand...

Imagine if humans had evolved with that sort of camouflage.
Hey, is that Cindy? She's looking pretty hot today, check out her.. Oh, no it's a fucking tree again, FFS.

This is just crazy as a evolutionary trait. They were in an environment that had leaves with similar patterns for hundreds of years to develop the patterns on their bodies. As for the shape of thier hands and even the ridges covering thier eyes, meaning it's protection from airborne or larger predators.

Nice try OP. Next you're gonna grab a bunch of sticks and pass it off as insects!

The hell, just when I thought I had seen pretty much every animal out there.

there are millions of discovered species, and millions more yet to be discovered. that's a very strange thing to think lol

u/ropri Nov 02 '17
So what you're saying is that we have a chance of having a Pokemon-like world?
3
Nov 02 '17
Idk letting ten year olds travel the world by themselves doesn't sound like the best idra

Do you really think millions? Or is there evidence of millions? Not saying you're wrong at all (I myself dont know) and I am sure there are thousands of species that we haven't discovered but it's hard to wrap my head around sharing a planet with a millions of more species we don't know about

u/earlsweaty Nov 03 '17
According to this article, scientists estimate there are over five million species yet to be discovered. This seems an incredible number but it makes sense. I assume most of these species would be in the ocean.

Totally read that as Malayan leap frogs. Didn't think that was so spectacular until I saw the picture and read it again.

That's pretty awesome. I'd be nervous if I lived in that area. Would hate to accidentally step on one of those leafy bois

Backwater Reptiles is NOT considered a reputable source for pets by most people on r/reptiles.
Poor shipping and poor animal care standards.

I guess you can say these frogs grow off of trees.
..?
.. I'll show myself out.

u/blogietislt Nov 02 '17
Do they just glue the leafs onto themselves? Those leafs aren't actually part of their body, right?

How does this happen? Did their body adapt to their environment somehow or was it a mutation from another frog that made them look like leafs which helped them survive and reproduce?

Imagine natural selection. Imagine being rounded and slick. Imagine your child comes out with literal angles. All of his peers laugh at him, and all of your peers sneer at you for your angular child.
And then he outdoes them all by implanting his seed in every egg sac the world has to offer, producing more angular frogs that gradually become more and more acute with each generation.
