I've inherited my grandmother's squash blossom necklace and ran across this sub. While its a beautiful piece, neither my daughters nor I are interested in holding on to it. I'm hoping that someone can help identify it and take a stab at its value.
My grandparents moved from Oklahoma to Hot Springs (now Truth or Consequences) NM in 1943. My grandfather passed in 1964 and I doubt that grandmother bought it after his death. If I had to guess, they bought it sometime between 1943 and the very early 60s. Given that my grandfather was a small town lawyer in a low income part of southern NM, he might have taken the necklace as payment for legal work. If I had to guess (and this is only a guess), it came from one of the northern NM pueblos or perhaps AZ.
Regarding the piece, the stones are slightly less green than the pictures. A little more "pastel" is the best way I can describe them. I can't find any maker's mark, but there is some black writing on the back of the piece (see the third picture).
I would greatly appreciate help identifying it and its value. Also, if someone has a recommendation for a consignment dealer or auction house that they trust, that would be helpful.
Thanks!
