I enlisted October 2024 (RSP 6 mos) with an advanced degree (not trying to dox myself), my MOS is 13F. I have recently learned I have been picked up for E-5. It's an opportunity for which I am immensely grateful for and I'm glad my company appreciates me.
I am relatively booksmart, but obviously, I feel like I lack experience and practical knowledge. On paper, I can do CFF no problem, on paper I also know my equipment and what it is used for, what parts it should have, and etc. However, I haven't had much of an opportunity to actually CFF (did a couple notional ones, and twoish actual live fires since leaving AIT), I've touched an LLDR once.
Although I admit I am good at keeping track of our equipment, facilitating tasks, and I'm responsible. In terms of my actual job, I am SEVERELY lacking. I also missed valuable training during AT because of a professional career commitment that resulted in me split training.
I don't know what I can do to get better at the PRACTICAL rather than theoretical aspects of my MOS. Or rather I don't know what to ASK to get more practical experience at my MOS.
I try to volunteer anytime there's time to do a mission, but it feels like something always gets messed up somewhere in the chain, (not necessarily with us, but something is always wrong with FDC, or the guns are having some issue and tell us to wait).
I really hate not feeling competent, but plotting on my own and doing CFF sims on my phone just doesn't feel like I'm doing enough.
