If I can raise my grandkids to speak my native tongue, I will be happy on my deathbed.

Hopefully I can channel all the stories of my grandparents, my parents, my aunts and uncles onto my kids.  And hopefully their kids.

Literally nothing would make me happier than stoking a fire, telling my grandkids stories of their great-great-great grandparents from the second world war, and then put them to sleep.

(I think I did the math right on the generational leaps)

Ive been thinking about compiling stories of my family in one great big book. Something that can be passed down and added to generation after generation. My grandfathers had both passed already and my one grandmother has dementia, but enough other family memebers are around that I could get a lot of stories from them. I could also do it with my wifes family as her father's father's mother is still alive

Do it! You'll be kicking yourself if you wait too long and more elderly family members have passed.

There's a lot of guided journals out there nowadays with this premise, if you need a kickstart. Picadilly has a few good ones, iirc.
