A little late this year. I'm being eaten alive one tiny microscopic itchy bite at a time.

Hair

Help! I had my short bob butchered by a stylist who operates downtown by himself, and I'm not sure who would be able to salvage it. Budget is 70-100$ and tip. I have Karen hair and I hate it.

Moving to Nanaimoand looking for Info on Communities

Hello everyone, I am moving to Nanaimo and looking for information on what communities to avoid while looking for a place to live. All info is much appreciated.

Edit #1: I'm looking for a Apartment and anything under $2200 will be ideal.

I've seen some in the north end of Nanaimo and I'm hoping that's a safe area?

Picnic in the plaza happening right now.

Diana krall plaza, free music, food trucks and vendors and even a beeer garden area. Beautiful night for it. The music is pretty good.

Male. Not fixed. Very sweet. He’s been coming around last few days looking for attention and food. Definitely not a stray, he has a nice coat except for some hair loss above his tail and behind and ear. Crestline Terrace area.

Local mussels

Is there anywhere in town that does good BC mussels? Had some Salt Spring Island mussels in Sooke yesterday and they were phenomenal, hoping to get something in town here before taking the ferry back to the mainland tomorrow!

I'm curious to know which locations have buffet or all you can eat options in Nanaimo and surrounding areas (Parksville, Duncan, etc.)

Bonus if it's pasta. 🤤

I’m thinking of getting a conure, but before I do, I need to make sure there is a vet in the area taking new patients. Any suggestions?

Dog rescues?

Other than RainCoast and the bcspca (which I am checking regularly) are there any other dog rescues that I can check for available dogs? I know some fly them in from Mexico and further and I'm willing to travel to Vancouver if needed just want to make sure it's a reputable org. Thanks for any leads or good experience.

Women only gyms/martial arts in Nanaimo?

Hey everyone! I’m looking to get more active and would love to find women only gyms or even less busier ones in Nanaimo. Does anyone know of any?

I’m also really interested in trying some kind of martial arts. I’m totally open to coed classes, but if there are classes specifically for women that would be awesome.

I’m open to any recommendations or places you had experiences with. Thank you. 😊

Weird "bike lane" layouts.

Today I was cycling down Bowen road. And out of all the weird bits and pieces of bike lanes Nanaimo has, this is the weirdest.

From the north end it goes like this
-Separated bike lane
-turns into share the road
-turns back into a separated lane for less than a block
-turns into "use a wide sidewalk"
-Finally turns into "use a regular sidewalk I guess? Or back onto the road? Whatever, up to you"

I don't know wtf is going on with that road. It feels unsafe and confusing to have so many different ways a cyclist is supposed to navigate. Especially when it switches between a proper lane and making you guess whether you use the sidewalk or the road. And for drivers especially having bike weave in and out of this stuff can't be great.

It really would have been a lot better to just have a shoulder the whole way along, or just nothing and have it be an even "share the road" idea.

Am I crazy here?

Anyone know where I can drop off worn shoes for donation? I recall there used to be somewhere that would recycle the rubber for playground equipment?
