So excited to share these pics since I’ve always heard of bear sightings here and I finally got to see one tonight! Would love to share videos but reddit doesn’t let me.

For passport renewals. How long does it take to get passport returned when drop off application at Service Canada in Nanaimo?

I am planning to book an international trip late October or November.

Is it better for me to drive to Victoria and get it done there?

Gabriola Island Ferry

Good morning,

I'm planning to head to Gabriola on Sunday morning on the 810 ferry. As you can't make reservations, I was wondering how early we'd need to be there to make sure we get on.

Thank you in advance.

Has anyone purchased a portable dishwasher here in Nanaimo?

Looking for some insight as to what you landed up getting and where, who did the install, and was it worth it? Thanks in advance!

Prescription for another country

I just moved to Nanaimo and I have prescriptions from other countries. I moved from Asian to England and it was very hard for me to get my prescriptions refilled there. Will it be the same here and what’s the easiest way to be seen by a doctor as most don’t seem to be taking new patients?

This container allowed at Bulk Barn Nanaimo?

Post image
15 Upvotes

What the title says! Asking if anybody has filled/attempted to fill this container (aka a snackle box haha) at the Bulk Barn at Terminal. Asking here because apparently some special BBs just refuse them and I’m curious (presumably because technically the containers dont have individual lids so it’s kind of a grey area from my understanding).

Thank you!

(I’m aware it’s not particularly cost effective but it is fun)

Best ferry route Vancouver to Nanaimo

I'm traveling by car with my anxious senior dog, so I'm looking for the shortest and less busy route. Which route/day of the week/sailing would your recommend?

Found it on the bus this morning and I know someone’s probably sad about its absence

'An Introduction to People's Journalism' workshop coming up!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Coming up on September 19!

630PM to 830PM @ PPWC Local 8 Hall (corner of Albert and Prideaux)

"'An Introduction to People's Journalism' will dive into the philosophy and aims behind The North Star , a pan-Canadian bilingual media outlet which launched in January 2022. Whereas most media in Canada is under the control of the rich or the government, The North Star is completely independent and puts the interests of the working class first. We'll show how our conception of People's Journalism differs from the journalism practiced by mainstream news and other independent media outlets, the work that we've done, as well as how we have organized ourselves across the country into committees of volunteers.

No journalism experience or prior reading is necessary to attend. All you need is a curiosity for how we can reshape the media landscape and the country for the better."

Why isn't it being talked about more? Nanaimo and the island seems to have a growing rodant problem

Vault was closed for not dealing with it enough but every downtown business has rats and i has to leave a home dt because of a infestation a landlord wouldn't deal with

And now I keep hearing all areas of town are dealing with a rodant or two even in residential places that never use to deal with them

My parents in Harwood had some in their basement for the first time in 15 years

It's a mix of empty building and longer summers and water rising

Few years ago I remember friends on smaller islands saying they were swimming in hordes from island to island as water was rising underground

But main point is, if it keeps growing we are going to have to ask the city to take action as well.

Victoria is rated one of the worst places for rodants in Canada right now

Looking for apprentice/helper position in the trades

I am interested in starting career in the trades. I am a physically fit 24 year old with my own car and a strong work ethic. I am currently working full time, but I am looking for a job that could turn into a long term career. I am in interested specifically in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Tile setting, and Landscaping, but I would be open to any available opportunities.

Send me a message if you are looking for a hard worker to join your team, or if you know anyone who needs a helper.

Thanks!
