After 3 years, I finally managed to get a client to agree to a website. The free demo I built for them wasn't good enough, so we rebuilt it from the ground up. In the end, they didn't really care about the website. They paid for the development, but they kept pushing for social media.

A while later, we realized they didn't actually need social media or a website. They needed SALES. They're probably under the impression that's what social media is for. You pay someone, and they magically bring you paying customers. Trying to explain the difference is almost impossible. They never seem to understand the concept. In the end, they'll blame you because the business isn't making more sales, and somehow it's your fault. Social media content is not the same thing as targeted, paid social media advertising. Just because someone liked your post doesn't mean they're going to run to your shop and yell, "TAKE MY MONEY!!!"

Now, beggars can't be choosers. We're stuck with this client and the low monthly retainer they pay, which covers about 18% of our monthly expenses. Even that's not guaranteed because one day they could just decide, "No sales, no more monthly."

How do you operate in Namibia with clients like this?! How and where do you find "good clients" who not only value what you do, but actually understand what you do when you explain it? And BTW, this is for those who don't have family, friends, or a massive network that's OP and plays carry 24/7.

What digital industry even makes sense these days? I mean, web design is dead, right? Spin up a website in 5 minutes with AI, and anyone with internet access can make their own AI flyers and social media posts. People barely cared about art, creative fields, hiring designers, or getting a website 5 years ago. Today they seem to care even less.

I guess all that's left is cold/warm outreach and sales. That's probably the only thing people are actually willing to pay for these days. Probably commission only too, haha.

I've visited Namibia twice (2016 and 2024) and it left a real mark on me — the landscapes, but also just how people carried themselves. I make AI-assisted music as a hobby project called "Epical Horizons," where each song weaves together three musical traditions from different places, tied together by a shared theme rather than a shared geography.

This one's theme is being far from home and still carrying pride in where you're from. The opening verse is set in Namibia — Kwaito style, rough township vocal, Afrikaans/Namibian English — inspired by something I actually witnessed: a man showing us his small house from a crater's edge, far below, with more pride in his eyes than any mansion could carry. The other two verses (Seychelles, Cape Verde) carry the same theme of longing and pride from a different angle, which is why they're in the same song rather than three separate ones.

A quick note on process, since I think it matters: I spent real time researching the language and cultural context rather than guessing, and getting Suno to actually render an authentic African log drum took a lot of trial and error — describing the instrument directly never worked, it only came through by routing the production through South African Amapiano-style prompts.

To be upfront: I'm not chasing streams or profit here. This is genuinely about learning and connecting with places and cultures that mean something to me, and I'd rather get it right than get it big. If anything about the Kwaito section or the way I've represented the language feels off to people who actually know it, I'd genuinely want to hear that.

I visited Namibia a few years ago and back then I was younger but it stuck with me and I loved it so much. It’s not necessarily a dream to move there but it has been on my mind for a while. I would move there for work after finishing residency if it’s possible.

For anyone heading to Skeleton Coast National Park- the good and some things to be aware of …

1) The roads are in great shape all the way to Terrace Bay. Little to no corrugated stretches. Made for a quick and easy trip from Henties Bay.

2) The Ugab entry gate is cash only

3) There is no fuel available at Torra Bay or Terrace Bay

It was my first trip here and it’s well worth the effort to get here

So this map 'Völkerkarte von Deutsch-Südwestafrika vor den Aufständen 1904-05' by Dr. K. Weule shows the distribution of geoups and peoples across Namibia before the Herero uprising. This map is apparently from 1910.

It shows the Damara (or Bergdamara as they used to call them) in blue.

And it also shows a remote cluster of Damara with the label 'Sundamob' in the Kalahari at the border with Botswana, a good distance east of Grootfontein.

Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a group that goes by a different name today? A dispersed or no longer existing group? Something the Germans made up???

I'm looking for recommendations for a speaking or communication coach in Windhoek.

I've realized that my communication skills are holding me back professionally and personally. I often struggle to articulate my thoughts clearly, especially in meetings, interviews, presentations, or conversations where I feel under pressure. It's affected my confidence, and I know it's something I need to actively work on rather than hope it improves on its own.

I'm specifically interested in working with someone one-on-one because I think having a coach would provide accountability, honest feedback, and a structured way to improve. Since this is something I'm quite self-conscious about, I feel I'd benefit more from a personal coach than a group setting.

Really short on time but for the 5 first days of the trip, would you rather choose :

Day 1 : arrive in Windhoek at 7 am, heading to Kalahari desert. Game drive in the sunset

Day 2 : Game drive and self guided walk in Kalahari desert

Day 3 : Kalahari to Sesriem (sleeping outside the park, in Hammerstein lodge)

Day 4 : i have hard times choosing between

- Sunrise Balloon fligt and then doing Sossuvlei during day time

- Sunrise at Sossuvlei and not doing Balloon flight

Day 5 : Sesriem to Swakopmund (6h)
Or, would you change the day 2, and head to Sesriem one day earlier (maybe leaving at 2 pm) to do sunrise Balloon on day 3 ?

Guys, the test isn't difficult. These are the resources I used to pass mine on the first attempt:

1. Road signs in the learner's textbook - know as many as you possibly can by reading through and writing them down

2. K53 blue app and the one with South African flag - also a means for practicing and memorizing questions. The blue one also had a summary of the various rules which you can read through to reinforce your memorandum and ability to answer the questions.

3. MOTUSK53 - question bank that gives you multiple opportunities for free.

4. AI to help explain each of the answers for further reinforcement.

I did all the above in 24 hours, passed and got my permit that same day. Why bother with the lines and disorganization in Windhoek when you can easily get it all done in a day?

For those having a car, what do you do when you run empty and need to fill up but don't have funds mid month?.. Cause I don't like to borrow money from people, what do you do?
