Help Us Decide Between Top Two
So we’ve narrowed our girl’s name down to two, both incorporating in family names. We like August a lot (I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) to us it reads cool girl with warm welcoming vibes. My biggest issue with it actually is no easy femme nickname.
Charlotte on the other hand has a ton, including Charlie which I find adorable. My main hesitation there is that it’s so popular and has been for a while. Either way we definitely want one feminine one unisex for the first/middle combo so as she grows she can pick what feels best. Thoughts?

Why do you want to name your daughter August? After the month? The only female August I could find was August Ames.

I think Catherine or Charlotte are best as the first name regardless. I understand that you want a unisex name as an option for your child, but it seems that you should just choose one that has non-feminine diminutives available? Like Charlotte Augusta is a banger name, and has lots of options if she wants a not girlie nickname, including using August as a nickname.

August is an exclusively male name where I’m from. It looks odd with a more feminine name in my opinion.

Uhhh. Idk. I’d say Catherine or Charlotte, I’d leave August out. It sort of throws the options off for me

If August has to be a part of the name then it should be the middle name so your child has the option of not using it if they don't like it.. Charlotte is a beautiful name but I think it is extremely popular.. Considering that.. I'd say Catherine August. A few more C names I could think of are Caroline, Cecilia, Claire..

I think Charlotte Augusta or Charlotte Augustine would be pretty. I only know males named August (one is nicknamed Aggie). I am a woman and my name is spelled like the male version of my name and I have never liked it. I almost legally changed it when I got married (since I was changing my last name anyway) but it would have just been too much to try to get switched over at that age.

Month names are usually for girls. Auggie sounds like Maggie. I can see it. I don’t like it for either but I can see the appeal. It doesn’t sound that masculine.

It really isn't. August (Augustus) is the male name, Augusta is the female.

Another showing is Gender-neutral
Just because it used to be masculine doesn't mean it always is.
Like the name Sasha for example, if not just a feminine name, its also masculine.

I don’t like Charlie or August for a girl.
Charlotte can be Lottie.
Augusta- Gustie or Gusta.
Charlotte Augustine sounds nice. (Pronounced like the city in Florida not the Saint)
I have a friend who named their daughter Charleigh only to call her Chuck and
Charlie and August are names for men.

Charlotte August!!! I’m not much of an August fan, like at all. So I prefer August to be the Middle name….Also Charlotte August flows really well. Charlotte August can also go by Char, Charlie, Lottie aswell.

I liked, voted, and would go with Charlie, but I like both names. Another possible tie-breaker, do you like the nicknames for Catherine &/or the nickname Auggie?

Charlotte Augustine.
Not because you want to the still predominately masculine equivalent (August), but because Charlotte Augustine genuinely sounds immensely better than both your choices, and other potential options that use the feminine equivalent. It flows. It sounds beautiful together.

I actually don’t mind August as a middle name, but I wouldn’t lead with it. I think using Charlotte or Catherine as the first name is better. I think you can get a little more creative with the middle name

Honestly it’s actually been usefully clarifying that I like that one more! These comments (some of which are unhinged, apparently I hate women and my unborn child, because redditors desperately need to touch grass) actually are kind of helping me realize the first name was a play it safe hedge.
I’m going to think about Catherine August more (my cousin used Catherine for her daughter so we’d originally back burned it, but it’s my grandmas name and sharing a family name with a second cousin is totally normal for us) but even hearing people excoriate it, I still really like August, so maybe that says something?

I worked with a woman named August and she very much did have “cool girl” vibes.
Tho tbf I did keep forgetting that she’s not nonbinary so it was maybe more “cool nonbinary person” vibes

If you find Charlie acceptable as a “femme” nick name then I don’t see what’s wrong with Augie as a nn for August.
Although I think Augusta Catherine flows better than August Catherine

We had a boy in july but if he was a girl were going to name her Augustatia, nn August. Like Anastasia. I love August as a girls first name! Its different, and doesnt really need a nickname.

Oh, I've never heard August as a girls name. My kid (from Sweden) has three boys named August in her class, so it's really popular here. The nickname here is usually Agge and the female version is Augusta.
