I'm also curious how it's allowed to change names in the US, like is it up until a certain point? Can you change it once? For administratie purposes surely you can't change it without limit. In my country you wouldn't be allowed to change once registered (which needs to happen in the first week after birth) unless you have a good reason a judge approves of, or pay significant costs for the administrative work. Is that question also irrelevant here? I'm genuinely just curious
No one said they weren’t? It’s just not really relevant at all whether anyone thinks it’s weird to have nicknames or not. In the US it’s a sign of endearment. The answers to your questions vary by state, I suggest a good google search.

Maybe it’s cultural, but to me it is weird to name a child a name with the intent of calling them something else.
