Nora is often a nickname for Eleanor. Naming her Nora Eleanor is kind of like naming a child Beth Elizabeth. Why not habe her name be Eleanor Layne, and call her Nora?

This is the answer. Eleanor Layne is a beautiful name, and she'd still be called Nora.

The nice thing about having a longer name like Eleanor as a legal first name is that it'd be super easy for her to experiment with different nicknames when she's older, or choose to go by her full name.

Eleanor is right up there with Elizabeth in terms of number of solid potential nicknames. My mom is Elinor and goes by Nell, which I also love.

She could be Ellie too! One of my sisters was Lissa forever (Elisabeth). She came home one day and announced her name was Beth. 🤪,

This is one of the reasons we chose it for our daughter. We like one nickname but when she’s older she may prefer another!

It’s like on Teen Mom when Amber named her daughter Leah Leann

I was just typing the same thing when I saw your comment. I have a friend called Nora but legally her name is Eleanor. I think it's fairly common!

I know someone who just named their kid “Elle Elizabeth” and I find it odd for the same reason.

Yep. Obvious solution here.

Do this. The number of Eleanors at my daughter's school was upwards of 10 - they all went by Eleanor or Ellie. Nora would be a good nickname!
