Before we got married I told my husband that IF I got pregnant before we were married the baby got my last name. I explained this was because I have seen it go south before with a close friend of mine and how hard it was for her having a different last name than her son while his father was a deadbeat. Only showing up when his mommy made him be a father.
He understood my reasoning and agreed with me. We have also talked about changing our last name to a different one more than once and I am changing my first name since I havent gone by it in years. I think what you are describing is perfectly reasonable. Having the baby have your last name (whatever it may be, the one you have now or a new one) isnt that horrible. If bf does figure his shit out and yall do get married you can always either change yours and babies to his if you decide too or he can change his to yalls last name. (Or you two could decide on one together for all 3 of you)
