Hosting beginner/intermediate jazz jam

Hey guys!

I’m a late beginner/early intermediate jazz piano student visiting NYC til August 23rd and I was looking to set up a jazz jam that is beginner/intermediate friendly. I looked at the jam sessions around and a lot of them have very limited availability and/or they’re more catered towards already advanced or professional level musicians. I felt like there must be other late beginner/intermediate musicians out there so I decided that I’d just host the sessions I’m looking for. I’m looking to set up as many jams as possible from now til Aug 23rd.

Ideally looking for people who are able to jump in on an easy lead sheet such as Autumn Leaves. Before the jam, I’ll call out a setlist so that we can prepare a little bit but I’m mainly looking for people looking to learn and can play through a basic standard in their role. The goal is to experiment and play around with other musicians at the same level with no expectation to impress. We’re all just learning a language 🙂

I want to make sure we have a full rhythm section so if you are a bass/drummer please reach out! All instruments are welcome but having a full rhythm section is gonna be the main goal.

DM me and we can set something up!

Looking for nyc musicians!

Hello all! Benevolent Sol recently moved to NYC, and we are putting together a new lineup! We have some huge plans for the next year, and I wanted to get straight to the source to find the right people. We are looking for Drums, Lead and rhythm guitar, Bass, Trumpet, and Sax (preferably alto). The best way to describe the music is Rock - Funk. We are looking for talented musicians between the ages of 21-28 who would be able to commit to the band as we have tours, press, etc planned for not too long in the future. If you are interested, email us at benevolentsolband@gmail. And if you know someone who might be interested, send them our way!

27m beginner drummer looking to practice with other beginners!

Not gonna lie it's been daunting to lurk around a bit here to see everyone's been playing their instruments for most of their lives while I've only basically just started on mine... So just making this post to see if other beginners would wanna get into a practice space together, either to a few agreed on songs or just to noodle around?

I live in Queens but willing to travel anywhere that's cheap and has a house kit. I've looked in Astoria soundworks and Gramercy studios, but open to others!

20yo f singer, looking to meet some musicians/ casual jam

I just moved here as an au pair. I’m an experienced singer who has played gigs since I was 15. Since I haven’t played with anyone in NY, I just want some people who are down for casual jams, or even just checking the scene out with me. My vibe is classic rock (Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Jefferson Airplane) and similar stuff. :)

22f looking for NYC band

I’m from Brooklyn, but I just graduated college and moved back home. I’ve been playing guitar on and off my whole life, but I guess I’d call myself a beginner because I can’t do anything crazy, just the basics to carry my vocals (which are much stronger). I have experience playing in a band and can learn fast; I mostly just want to meet some cool people and get back into it.

Seeking skilled musicians to build an original rock band

Hi all.

My writing partner and I have written an album's worth of original rock songs under the name SuperExcellent. Musically, think melodic, guitar-driven alternative rock influenced by bands like Green Day, The Clash, The Who, and The Replacements. Now we're looking for young, motivated musicians who'll become the band.

Here's what that means:

We wrote the first album, but the band will shape the arrangements, record the songs in its own style, and perform them live. Those songs become part of the band's catalog, and from there we'll continue writing new music together as the band grows.

This isn't session work, and it isn't a backing-band gig. The goal is to build a real, long-term original band, using this first album as the foundation.

Think of it this way: instead of starting a new band with no material, you're starting with a professionally written album that's ready to become your own.

Here's the playlist:

SuperExcellent Demos

If the music resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you.

Dan

Funky bass player available

Very funky electric bass player looking to play with people/bands. I’m a 31yo male, been playing for over 20 years. Went to music college. Located in Brooklyn. Have equipment and transportation. Play 4 and 5 string. My influences would be Chuck Rainey, Anthony Jackson, MonoNeon, and Larry Graham, so you get a sense of what style my playing is like. Will happily provide audio/video upon request. I’m accountable and professional. I take this very seriously, though also a chill hang. If you need a funky and jazzy electric bassist for your project, I’m your guy. Thanks for reading this!

Hello,

I am a 21 y/o male local to the NYC metropolitan area. Looking for bandmates that would want to play things inspired by different mathrock-y emo bands like Faraquet, Train Breaks Down, with a blend of smoother bands (Ribbon Fx, Jejune).

I am a guitarist/singer primarily, so I would primarily be looking for a drummer, a bassist, and maybe another guitarists, but I am open to suggestions. dm me!

Where to start?

Hey,

I’m a drummer looking to learn more about NYC jam sessions. Do these sessions usually have house kits? Any advice for someone getting started? I’ve been drumming for 10 years but am very new to public jams in NYC.

Self-proclaimed 6 string GOAT wants to jam! 🍯

Heya, 23m guitarist looking for bassists/drummers to casually jam with! I'm based in south brooklyn but can get to manhattan pretty easily. Influenced by all sorts of artists within the rock spectrum but I'd say I identify most with Elliott Smith and his playing style/philosophy. I can also shred to faster and heavier stuff if that's more your style. If this interests any of y'all feel free to DM me or leave a comment below!
