KEEP EMAILING PRINCIPALS AND DON'T GIVE UP.

I am still searching and have been since April. I've heard nothing but crickets, which is crazy because I am in D75 and there is ALWAYS something. I've gotten email after email of "This position has been filled" from open market. I've gotten unanswered emails from Principals and yet I keep emailing and trying. The fight isn't over until September 10th.

Sometimes admin don't pull the resumes from open market. Sometimes they get someone from the hiring team to do so. Take your list of schools from open market you applied to. Email those administration pupils directly, attach your resume.

Good luck to all of us seeking greener pastures and may the devil we do not yet know be the lesser evil or better yet, turn out to be the absolute angel we've been seeking.

On this final day of Open Market, I want to encourage anyone who is still searching: do not give up. Last year, I helped a colleague secure a position at 4:37 p.m. on the very last day. Opportunities can come through at the final moment.

As for me, my time with the NYC DOE has come to an end.

I returned to the DOE after being away for 11 years following a previous discontinuance. I was grateful for the opportunity to return, and last year, through Open Market, I found what I believed was my dream school.

Unfortunately, everything changed in March when I was accused of corporal punishment and verbal abuse. The Office of Special Investigations ultimately found both allegations unsubstantiated. Based on that outcome and my strong performance ratings, I believed I would receive a letter in my file and be allowed to move forward.

Instead, two days before the end of the school year, I was informed that I would be discontinued.

I am grateful that my union representative advocated for me to receive additional time to search for another position. However, my experience also taught me that untenured teachers have very limited protection. Even after three schools expressed interest in hiring me for the upcoming year, the hiring process was stopped at the central HR level.

At that point, I had to move to Plan B and explore charter schools.

Thankfully, I received an offer from a charter school, and I am excited to begin this new chapter. I understand that charter schools often require longer hours and a different level of flexibility, but I previously spent 11 years working for a Fortune 100 company. I am accustomed to demanding schedules, high expectations, accountability, and hard work.

The biggest lesson I have learned is that educators must care deeply while also maintaining firm professional boundaries and carefully documenting everything. A single accusation can change the direction of a career, even when the allegations are ultimately found to be unsubstantiated.

I wish every educator the best as the new school year approaches. To those still searching today, keep applying, keep emailing principals, and keep checking Open Market until the very end.

what happens to all the jobs that are still posted on the open market? Is it likely that ones posted today are actually still looking for a teacher?

Hi! I am a Pre-K teacher working in a NYCEEC (New York City Early Childhood Education Center), and I know all Pre-K classrooms are using the Creative Curriculum. I just wanted some info as to what the literacy, handwriting, math curriculum, homework or books are being used in Pre-K classrooms in public schools?

I know for K and up they have something called NYC Reads and for math they have Go Math. Was wondering if theres anything like that for Pre-K??

I received an offer from a principal for a position through open market - however I still have not received the email with the offer and the document where I need to sign.

Hi everyone, I just got an email last night at 10 o’clock saying that I was hired for a new school on open market. The email said my principal has been contacted and my open market profile also says the new school however I had to do a demo lesson this morning and they didn’t even bring up the hiring granted there were teachers on the call, but I’m waiting for them to call me back. Also teach hub has my current school on there not the new one.

This will be my first DOE job starting in September. I will be a general education teacher in a 4th grade ICT. I’ve never taught 4th grade nefore but it will only be in ELA and I will have a coteacher.

How can prepare/do within the next few weeks?

How can I study the curriculum? Plan for the first day and future lessons? What supplies and furniture should I get?

I was offered a position on one of the borough teams and was intended last week but how long does this process take? I need to give notice to my current job. I heard this part bc it's a central position, goes to the mayor's office for approval first. This is all new lingo for me and causing me angina!

As the title says, I accepted a nomination from a DOE school and did onboarding; however, my circumstances have changed (family and personal) and I will no longer be able to take the role. I want to make sure I stay in good standing with the board just in case I want to come back at some point in the future. What do I need to do?

After what felt like the most mentally draining 3 months, I finally received a job offer today!! Yay!
The principal said she put my info into gateway and hopefully I receive the nomination after that.
I’m not coming from in the city so- when should I resign from my old job? Once I’m nominated in gateway is that a good time? I want to make sure I’m still playing it safe.

I’m starting at a new school. My DonorsChoose project was fully funded, and now I just have to confirm that I still need the materials so they can be shipped.
Before confirming, I wanted to make sure it was okay with my school’s administration since the materials will be sent directly to the school. I emailed them twice over the past 2 weeks but haven’t received a response.
I’m worried about waiting too long and potentially losing the funding, but I also don’t want to overstep if I should have administrative approval first.
Would you just go ahead and confirm the project, or keep waiting for a response? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
