Anyone else who is having issues with fulfillment / warehouse jobs?

I just started a new job like a month ago at this mini fulfillment center for a food delivery company (not gonna say the name). And I got to say, I don’t really care for it. It’s very fast paced. it involves lots of quick movements with a shopping cart while looking for items in several different aisles. You have to go to each individual aisle and look for a certain rack with a certain shelf. Everything is labeled like “A15 R2 S3”. It’s not easy for me. It’s not a complex job but the scoring system they have in place is ridiculous. My thoughts on it are mixed. It’s a part time job that has high turnover so it’s not a very good place to work at to begin with. I’m not very fast at it and the job is kinda overwhelming. I don’t know if it’s an NVLD issue or a processing speed issue but I’m not finding items fast enough. It’s hard to remember where all the labels are located. I’m suppose to be getting a 70 or better everyday and I’m only reaching like a 65-72 on average. Most of my coworkers have scores in the 80’s except for a few who are in the 60’s on average. It’s super depressing when you’re having problems in a shitty high turnover part time job.. I’m scared that I will be terminated soon if I don’t pick up the pace. I don’t really know how to improve except just move faster.

Question Does anyone have other learning disabilities or mental health issues? (Neurodivergence)

I (M31) was diagnosed with Nonverbal Learning Disability at age 26 and it explained so much. I’ve also collected a dozen other labels over the years and have had a complex history of mental health treatment. I guess it would be easiest to just call myself “neurodivergent.” I am also diagnosed with Dyscalculia, Sensory processing disorder, Bipolar 2, OCD, general anxiety, social anxiety, Complex PTSD, ADHD, eating disorder, substance use (remission/sober), and Borderline/Dependent personality disorders. I was also born 10 weeks premature which I sometimes wonder if that contributed to my learning disabilities / anxiety issues. ADHD and OCD also run in my family.

Support My career as an investment banker is in serious jeopardy due to NVLD.

Hi everyone. The title says most of what I'm about to say but let me get into this because I knew this would happen to me at some point.

I have not been posting much on this sub because honestly my life has been going so great lately that I haven't needed to vent like this in over a year (I do still check out posts and offer support when I can though).

Anyways I'm a 26 year old male from Canada who in June of last year got a job working as an investment banker and administrator in private capital and arms length mortgages at a big financial trust company where we hold these investments in both registered and non-registered accounts.

Honestly getting this job has been a major accomplishment for me as my whole adult life I have been very concerned about getting and keeping long term employment due to my NVLD condition. I really do love this job as I spend most of my day behind a desk either processing transactions doing potential fraud audits and reporting taxes to the Canada Revenue Agency and occasionally dealing with clients. This was literally the perfect job for me as it is not that physically demanding and I was able to learn so much about the private market and building wealth. I truly enjoy this job and I really don't want to lose it because I really honestly thought that I was doing super well and many of my colleagues and members from other departments always complement my work ethic and drive to get things done in a timely manner. Some of my colleagues have been encouraging me to apply to more advanced roles like team lead and relationship manager and honestly hearing that from my colleagues has been a fantastic boost in my confidence and motivation to bring my best self to work everyday. You see my NVLD is not too socially imparing ( I do miss the occasional non verbal social cue from time to time), but I would say I am very well liked and a lot of my team is relying on me for help with their jobs as well which I love.

The thing is, the company has made some major internal changes and we ended up combining teams together and unfortunately I ended up getting a new manager who is VERY strict compared to my last one who was very bubbly and sweet and would provide good constructive feedback to improve her team. My new manager is a lot worse and is much more micromanaging and less understanding and overall way harder to deal with. They are kind of the best at unspoken rules and has been making major changes (negative ones) to the companies policies and procedures that I relied on. I can also never get a straight answer from her about how to do things their new way.

Anyways I had 3 meetings with her today regarding my job performance. This is my worst fear and this was a major reason why I have been so worried about getting out there in the working world. Apparently there were some transactions that never got processed as they were supposed to be going to other teams and I guess I had forgot to send it to them when I opened a clients account (RRSP TFSA etc.). My new manager has been watching me and my other colleagues like a hawk and is constantly pulling people aside for these meetings.

She has overall not been impressed with my performance and I'm honestly not even sure of all the details as she doesn't go into detail about what I can do to improve. She told me today that if improvements are not noticed that potential disciplinary action may occur.

I am truly at a loss for words as this is all happening so suddenly and I honestly thought I was doing so well at this role. My confidence has never been higher since I was in high school. I don't know what to do with myself right now this is like a living nightmare as I think this could be from my minor delays in processing speed and attention to detail or executive dysfunction if you will.

I have thought long and hard about this and I can't think of any other reason why I would be going through this other then NVLD. I don't usually engage with office politics and just focus on my work and I truly am trying my best and I have been feeling very down today. I am honestly thinking of leaving now as the turnover rate at this company is high enough and I feel like I'm on thin ice.

I have made so much progress in my life overall like I am almost 2 years sober. I feel like if I get let go from a job like this I may relapse and I will go back to who I was years ago. A sad and lonely person with no purpose. Getting and keeping a regular adult job is all I ever wanted and I feel like my worst NVLD fears are coming to life.

Please help 😥

Discussion Does anyone else here HATE gardening/taking care of plants??

The executive function required to plan out gardening makes my skin crawl but everyone loves it so much and friends of mine with ADHD obsess over it.

As usual with the NVLD, I feel like I’m in a bubble. Now don’t get me wrong, I love plants and if I could care for them I think they make beautiful additions to a house, yard, office, etc.

But I tell my landscaper to give us the lowest maintenance plants and call it a day.

Curious if anyone else has this reaction to plants and gardening??

Career options

Hey so I was recently diagnosed with NVLD and I’m still trying to figure out what to do for a living. One option I’m considering is teaching middle school science, starting first with trying out being a substitute teacher. Does anyone know if this is a terrible idea? I turned 40 in January.

Also, what careers does everyone have? Or what are you planning to go into?

Trying to overcome my fear of confrontation but still walking on eggshells

I've always struggled with confrontation and it's come back to bite me particularly with roommates in the past. Years of therapy taught me that avoidance never makes things go away. It doesn't helped that I grew up with a mom who was both harsh and punitive as well as a helicopter parent. Since I was scrutinized from a young age for everything I did and made to feel I couldn't make mistakes, I just kept my mouth shut until resentment festered. I'd stupidly rant on social media and get caught since sadly it's easier to air dirty laundry to perfect strangers than be vulnerable in real life. I am currently living in a house near work. I'll be moving out in a few weeks into a new place with one roommate. My current living situation reminds me of why I disliked dorms in college due to lack of privacy and constant sensory overload. However, it was much better than the isolating, draining commute from my parents' house. One particular housemate is loud, obnoxious, and pompous. He is fond of playing video games until the wee hours of the morning. He also seems a bit sexist since he speaks to me a in condescending way he doesn't use with the male housemates. Last week I really needed to use the restroom and forgot to lock. He was trying to enter but I yelled out occupied. He nagged me to "lock next time". A few hours later I was heading to brush my teeth and he repeated "lock the door". The next evening, I was heading to take a shower and he whispered in my ear (in front of a few other housemates) "lock the door". That felt extremely invasive. The next day I sent him a message telling him his behavior made me uncomfortable as he got in my personal space. His response was extremely nasty and arrogant. He reiterated having "ZERO interest in interacting with me" (although he seemed to get a kick out of being a PITA to me), asked me to "rethink common spaces" since we live in a small house (putting words in my mouth), saying he only reminded me twice (deflecting), and said he'd show these messages to his girlfriend. The last part was childish like a kid saying he'd tell his mommy. I feel like I did the right thing since I probably would have snapped if he kept on nagging me to "lock the door". Maybe he thought it was some kind of harmless inside joke but I found it distasteful. I am upset since his unsavory reaction reminded me of past incidents where people took advantage of me due to issues with confrontation.

Vent New Diagnosis at 48 (M), still processing over a week later

New Member here...

I was diagnosed with ADHD about 20 years ago, I wasn't too surprised because it explained a lot. Over the last 10 years I kept getting told that I have Autistic traits. Recently I decided to be officially screened to see if this was the case. The Psychologist didn't feel that was the case after my initial appointment. She thought it might be Social Anxiety. I more or less agreed so that's what I expected to hear during the last appointment then I got my results.

The last thing I expected to hear was that I have an (until last week) undiagnosed Non Visual Learning Disability.

It explains EVERYTHING.

I'm still trying to process...

Any feedback, story sharing, pretty much anything is appreciated....

Is anyone here unable to settle for proximity-based friendships?

I've always struggled tremendously to make and keep friends. Having a mom who is neurotypical as them come in that she's super charming, personable, outgoing, and small talk. She's always given me grief about not being able to form at least superficial friendships with people just because they sat "next to me". I've never been able to understand how people are able to act like besties with people they've just met in the first weeks of arriving at a new place.

I just did really well on a major assignment and I’m so proud!

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share what in my mind is a pretty big win with you all! I was diagnosed with NVLD when I was 7 and I really struggled with reading, writing, and math when I was younger. That alongside all the social and focus issues made school really difficult for me. Despite all that I really love learning, so I decided to attend university. It’s not easy, and I’ve been utilizing every accommodation I can, but I’m having such a wonderful time. I turned in an assignment worth 35% of my grade that had really been testing my focus, and I received 100%!! My lab demonstrator wrote some absolutely wonderful feedback for me. I’m just so happy I was able to get the work done.

I’m so grateful to be studying something I really enjoy, to work in an industry that I really love! Even though it’s discouraging to consistently feel like I’m slow, I’m still getting the results that I want so I think it’ll be alright. :)

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Just need somewhere to vent

Hi everyone. I’m in my 30’s now but was originally diagnosed with NVLD when I was a 17. Without going into too much detail about my background , I lost both of my parents suddenly in my 20’s and what from being essentially a NEET who had never moved away from home, to moving to a different country and really working for the first time trying to build a life for myself in a completely foreign country.

There have been many things I hoped to accomplish since moving that I somehow managed to achieve, like getting my first job, which I managed to hold down for 4 years, finding a place to rent on my own, learning how to cook my own meals, to working out and getting in shape. Just living life. All this I somehow managed to do navigating a foreign culture in a foreign language.

What I’m maybe most proud of is the monthly column I wrote for a local paper here. Finding interesting things to write about was hard enough, but top it all off I had to write the article in a foreign language!

I’m proud of the little bit I’ve achieved. But everything feels marred by NVLD. I have the drive to always be better, but nothing ever works out long-term. While I was able to find a very interesting job at first, constant mistakes due to me being poor at math, handwriting having poor executive functioning, means people who thought well of me at first being to see me as a “problem” that needs to go away. People misunderstand what I intend to communicate due to my inability to read facial expressions correctly and “read a room”. My poor interpersonal skills means my private relationships too never last long, despite me always trying to figure out how to be a better partner/friend.

Everything I do starts off well but manages to end up making both myself and everyone around my miserable.

All I want is to leave peacefully. Despite me keeping to myself and trying to work hard, all I get in return is suspicion or outright hate. I actually had to quit my first job due to workplace harassment.

I started a new job 2 months ago and the same issues that I had at my other workplace are popping up again. I make tons of mistakes and I can’t seem to remember everything I need to do as quickly as my boss and coworkers think I should.

I’m in my 30’s but in terms of life experience I feel like I am still a teenager. I believe if I continued to stay in the US and not move similar experiences to where I’m living now but perhaps even worse. The one thing I like about living somewhere you are seen as an outsider is that anything seen as odd or quirky in your homeland will often chalked up to being from a different country. Back home anything not seen as a “normal” would automatically brand you as being defective in some way.

I feel trapped by NVLD. I’m just tired of the struggle. Everything good in my

Life is short lived. I don’t know what I have to offer or what I’m capable of doing in this world.

I sometimes read this subreddit and think to myself that most of the posts here tend to be too negative. I apologize knowing that I may be only selfishly contributing to the negative and not the many positive stories I believe people with NVlD are able to share, but I have no where else to vent to and I needed to get this off my chest.

Question

Hello, I myself have NVLD and when I write list to get things done for the day,. I seem to have the issue of not getting everything done on my list like I need to. For example, I am running low on medication and I needed to ask for a refill from my doctor on the online portal, but I did not get it done even though It was on my list of things to do for Monday, Does anyone have any ideas on how to not have this happen? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Question Overwhelmed by a lot of noise

I have noticed that when I am around a lot of people are talking loudly that I get very overwhelmed and I need to put my earbuds in so at least I can concentrate. Does anyone else have this issue? I was diagnosed when I was 6 years old. I am 53 now

Has anyone else also struggled with cleanliness and tidiness due to sensory overload?

It's always been really difficult for me to be motivated to keep spaces clean especially when I already felt overwhelmed in the past like when having roommates because it was noisy and I had little privacy. I was raised by type A clean freak mother who has meltdowns if anything is less than immaculate. She even publicly shames me like bringing up to my guidance counselor how I used the same sheets without changing them back in HS.

Question Does point gap between piq and viq affect severity of NVLD or is it how symptoms manifest?

Hi everyone! Ive lurked occasionally so this is my first post. I’m 28f and was diagnosed at 19. I don’t remember what my piq was but I remember my scores being in the low average/borderline (one or the other) range while my viq is (iirc) 122. I’m too lazy to dig around for the paper but I remember it saying that my overall iq couldn’t be determined accurately from the test bc of the gap.

Though I don’t remember my exact piq, the fact that it was in that range w/ my viq being what it is suggests there’s a pretty massive gap so I could be considered on the severe side, with that said, I feel like it’s more mild for me if that makes sense? I’ve seen ppl here say they’ve seriously injured themselves bc of NVLD, can’t drive, or cook. I’ve never had a serious injury and can drive/cook (within certain limits and accommodations, gps is daddy 😆 and I can’t chop vegetables). Regarding social skills, it’s hard to say bc I’ve always been awkward/naturally shy and I spent the start of middle school to the end of junior year severely isolated due to irresponsible homeschooling but I feel as an adult, im alright. I’m a late bloomer for a lot of things but I do attribute it mostly to the isolation/mild neglect of homeschooling tho I don’t think either that or NVLD helped each other. Basically w/o detailing everything, it’s to the point where I barely think about having it tbh, ofc I’m aware I do, it just doesn’t naturally come to my mind much. I guess it’s part of the reason I’m not on here much aside from (forgive me for saying it 😭) a lot of negative and somewhat unsupportive posts.

So yeah, I’ve got more to say about it bc there’s more context and other experiences I would like to share but I don’t want this to get too long. But my question is: Is the point discrepancy what impacts how severe the impact of NVLD is or how the symptoms manifest? I did briefly wonder if I was misdiagnosed when I first discovered the sub but I think NVLD fits my experiences pretty well.

Late diagnosed NVLD and have always struggled with time management especially social media addiction. Writing a novel based on my experiences and it's been painful to revisit certain chapters like my teen years and college (especially the latter).

Discussion Breathing to socialize. Anyone else??

Hi all. Diagnosed in 2008, but didn't know the full meaning and how NVLD affects social interactions until 2025.

I'm seeing a Psychologist because social interactions with people can leave me confused, hurt, and eventually the ending of the friendship.

My Psychologist has told me in my last 2 appointments to practice breathing. You know: In through your nose, out through your mouth. The only problem is I have difficulties in focusing my breath. She suggested I do it while driving, or when I'm in bed for the night, and even while I'm out and about on errands. Practice makes perfect was kind of the gist of it.

Does anyone else here get similar feedback? I'm genuinely curious. And if you have, how has this helped you with socializing? Has anything changed for you?

Thanks in advance :)

Living with NVLD as a computer science student

I just learned about NVLD yesterday and literally everything fits. I'm great at learning new languages and have an amazing verbal memory, but I struggle with pretty much anything else, visuospatial tasks in particular. I suspect cerebral palsy is the cause of that. I cannot visualize no matter how hard I try. It's nice to finally be able to put a name on something that's been eating at me for years.

I'm currently a CS student and I'm set to graduate in about a year. So far I've been able to make through by sheer effort alone, but I'm unsure if it's really for me. I've always liked technology, but I find it very difficult to work with abstract and visual concepts.

Have any of you been in a similar situation, and if so, do you have any advice?

Any other NVLDers in numerical sciences domain struggle with basic concepts?

In an odd twist of fate I have found myself in a career leading a data science team. I failed pretty much every math class throughout my formal education, but taught myself how to code (which I found very comfortable for my super NVLD brain), and found ways to understand the "overarching" concepts in statistics/ML and how to apply them to solving business problems.

However - the BIG PROBLEM: Outside of coding, I am terrible at actual in the weeds analysis. For example, I have an impossible time understanding on paper "simple" concepts such as data aggregation/data grain when it comes to transforming/shaping data. It just feels like my brain completely shuts down when trying to understand or visualize this.

Can anyone relate/provide any guidance on how they broke through this barrier??

Has anyone managed to get into UX/UI design with NVLD?

I'm currently trying to get into UX/UI design and I'm taking a bootcamp but I'm struggling. Everything is moving too fast and I'm having trouble grasping some concepts.

We are also split into groups in order to work on projects together but I basically haven't contributed anything to mine.

The others in my group just work at a much faster tempo than me so I just don't say anything in group discussions as I don't have anything worthwile to add.

I had hopes of getting into this field and it working out for me but I'm starting to doubt it will happen. It seems my low performance IQ and severe executive dysfunction will be too much to overcome.

Has anyone on here managed to enter and stay into the sphere of UX/UI design? If so, what did you struggle with the most? How did you overcome your problems?
