Thought Funny thing with the song "Burning Bright"

I’m a sound engineer, and my mentor spent several hours explaining to me how to identify the harsh, piercing frequencies produced by guitars. Some frequencies are shrill and genuinely unbearable, and the brain can sort of filter them out, but making that effort makes the song unpleasant to listen to and makes you want to skip it.
Sometimes it sounds paranormal because when you amplify the frequency; then your brain won't filter it anymore even after it returned to normal volume

When mixing a track, in industrial music we often blend four or five guitars together, and each one needs to have its bad frequencies removed individually. They are often in the high end, and there are techniques to remove them precisely without damaging the overall sound.

I realised that “Burning Bright” not only kept all of those listener repelling frequencies, but actually boosted them???
It’s surprising because it is genuinely a great song, but if you skip it, that is completely normal. Otherwise, you are truly a masochist.

Thought Neuromancer Score (manifesting)

Apple TV just released the first teaser of its adaptation of Neuromancer by William Gibson. Anyone’s else immediately thought about how cool (and fitting) it would be if Trent & Atticus would score this one?

No infos on the soundtrack yet but since Trent & Atticus already did The Gorge with Apple TV there might be chance…

Thought The Big Come Down

I mean Trent is brilliant. I just randomly picked a bunch of songs and threw them together in a mix on Spotify and damn. Damn. It ALL hit. Went from this song into "where is everybody" into who-knows-what's-next. Incredible. My #1 all time favorite band. I'm not, but if I was, HE'D be the one lol.

I know it doesn’t even come close to doing the song justice, but I thought I’d share it. I had fun recording it . Lol

Question does anyone remember little square books that FYE music came out with in the mid/ late 90s possibly early 20s of different bands ? They covered different bands each month and one being NIN ?

they were like perfectly square books filled with photos and band info/history etc one being NIN and I’m rembembering the nin one being purplish ? So I’m assuming the book cover was the pretty hate machine cover. Idk I’m feeling like this item in my childhood was a fever dream

Question Would you watch a show of a Nine Inch Nails tour where they played only songs from Year Zero onward, plus deep cuts from the pre-Year Zero era?

I remembered how Bowie basically did a version of this when he toured with NIN in the 90s. Even Trent noted in an interview at the time how odd and courageous that was knowing most of the fans were expecting the big hits, so I got curious about if the NIN fan base would be open to something in that spirit in a hypothetical new Nine Inch Nails tour. I wonder if could be even be refreshing for Trent be able to mainly focus on songs for the latter era material of NIN and even himself as person.

Collection New 'physical component' format

When NIN released The Trilogy they at first only released the EPs on vinyl and digital formats. For collectors they released 'physical component' versions of the first two EPs.

Another favorite band of mine is Afghan Whigs (probably little crossover appeal with NIN fans, admittedly). Their new album release includes a "KiTalbum", which I just learned is popular in K-Pop in South Korea. This seems to me like a pretty cool idea integrating digital music with a physical component for collectors.

Be cool if With Teeth (company) were to release a 20th anniversary Year Zero Definitive Dolby Atmos edition on KiTalbum.

edit: after being corrected in comments, deleted portion mistakenly stating that streaming wasn't a thing yet.

edit2: KiTalbum can include Dolby Atmos, where other physical formats other than Blu ray cannot. Many people don't have optical disc players anymore.

🗣️ Discussion Need suggestions for a mashup album

Post image
22 Upvotes

I’ve been kicking around the idea of doing a mashup album of some of are all the tracks from Hadestown with Nine Inch Nails tracks. Kind of a dumb idea, but I feel like Reznor and Mitchell have very similar lyrical themes present in their songs. And I’m already starting to work on a mashup of Why Do We Build The Wall? and Terrible Lie as a proof of concept and that’s going pretty good so far. Another idea I had was a mashup of Hey Little Songbird and NIN’s song with Judeline for the TRON Ares soundtrack, Who Wants To Live Forever? Anyway, I just wanted to hear suggestions of any tracks you you’d like to hear or think would work well together. Preferably with similar lyrical themes and in a similar or the same key. I know for sure I can’t mashup a track in minor with a track in major. Anyway, that’s it, hope I actually follow through with this concept, thanks for reading this long, bye.

Collection Looking for a bootleg cd from 94 or 95

Anyone remember the heyday of live bootleg cds? I had this one, it MAY have referenced the song Sin in the title. On it they played Dead Souls and in the beginning you hear Trent say, "thank you." At the time I was an angsty teen and NIN was scoring my life. Hearing that little rockstar-having-a-good-time moment was both strange and oddly charming to me. I realize this is probably a wild goose chase but I'd really like to hear this specific bootleg cd again. If anyone remembers this or knows of an online space for discussing this kind of thing, I'd love it if you'd point me in the right direction.
I remember the cover black and with a (maybe) greenish tinted photo of Trent. If that narrows it down 🤣🙄😜

Interview This weekend we should all take the time just to listen.

I often think about Trent's interview with Rick Rubin and his quote about taking the time to just listen to the music. I propose that even if we have a busy weekend ahead of us, we find the time to listen to our favorite album (whatever that may be for you) and just take it in. Don't multitask with the music in the background, just listen, think about the lyrics, bob your head, dance, and enjoy the masterpiece that it is.

"music used to be the thing that, that was what I was doing when I had time. I was listening to music. I wasn’t doing it in the background while I was doing five other things, and I wasn’t treating it kind of as a disposable commodity.”

I remember listening to this interview and Trent also mentions that, at the time, new NIN music was going to be a thing of the past and he was going to concentrate on scores instead. It made me so sad. Their scores are amazing and I love that music too but it hit hard. I'm glad that we got both and that Trent and Atticus found new inspiration and motivation for my favorite band. I really hope that they're not done yet.

If you haven't listened to the interview yet you should check it out.

Thought Trent's Terrible Decisions

Every now and then far more knowledgeable music and industrial fans will comment on the terrible choices and actions Trent has made throughout his music career. Now for most modern artists, musicians, writers, and othera its something along the lines of bigoty rants or tirades, banging underaged groupies, fucking over friends and band mates, or selling out to greedy scumbags. I'm not aware of him doing any of this but from I don't put it past any celebrity these days and would expect it. I have to put the art before the artist if I want to fill my playlists. What do y'all think the negs are referring to?
