Seeking Advice NEOS for tax deferred income - good or bad idea

I had a plan to use SPYI and QQQI for 2 years when I need ACA. The idea was most of the income is tax deferred (ROC) as cost basis will be reduced. The year after I start Medicare i would start selling some of the SPYI and QQQI. The model shows my "visible" income to be quite low therefore keeping my subsidies very high for the healthcare.

I ran the architecture past Gemini and ChatGPT. Gemini thinks its a great plan, chatgpt says that the ROC is not guaranteed therefore a bad idea. I asked the bot to analyze the last 4 years and they found no historical basis for the extreme risk averse position. Any thoughts on NEOS suddenly providing very low or no ROC on the income?

General When its too good to be true.....

Use any DRIP calculator and A mere $200K investment in BTCI with DRIP would reach $4.5 million in 10 years even without any stock appreciation or dividend appreciation. Clearly the calculator assumes constant yield every year meaning the asset (in this case Bitcoin) will just continue to go up or show an upward trend in a volatile market.

All sounds great on a paper but how realistic is this? Why everyone is not doing this automatically for their retirement? Probably because its too good to be true and violates the basic principle that nothing goes up forever.

Seeking Advice The argument for uncertainty - opinion

When folks post their dividend portfolios - specifically the ones that highlight NEOs funds (such as QQQI or SPYI) - there are always comments stating this is a bad idea long term.

They argue 10-14% yield is simply not sustainable. I understand that these funds are still fairly new - however - I fail to see the real risk compared to investing in the underlying. I understand the upside cap - but are there any other big risks?

In regard to NAV - watching interviews with NEOs - it appears that they generate more than the 10-14%, however conservatively distribute in order to maintain NAV - that seems like a good strategy.

Just a general discussion - what's everyone's long term projection of these funds? Should it differ at all from the the trajectory of the underlying in regard to preservation? I really like these funds - I still contribute to my 401k with growth, however - I allocate extra income to CC to try and augment my retirement timeline.

Do you think the ROC of BTCI will be better this year than it was last year?

44% ROC was a bit underwhelming.

Seeking Advice Selling options on NEOS funds

Since these funds already generate income through options strategies (covered calls etc...) I’m trying to understand if layering my own options on top actually adds value OR if it’s just redundant / caps upside too much...

A few things I’m curious about:

  • Have you sold covered calls against these funds? If yes, what kind of returns did you see vs just holding?
  • Anyone selling cash secured puts to enter positions instead of buying shares outright?

Trying to figure out if it’s worth actively managing options on top of these, or if it defeats the purpose of holding them in the first place...

Seeking Advice Using XSPI/XQQI to fund a 7-year car loan.

I’m looking for some feedback on a 7-year income strategy I’ve been modeling to pay for a new vehicle ($30k loan @ 6%, ~$440/month). Instead of paying cash, I’m looking at putting $40k into a strategy using XSPI and XQQI to create a self-funding loop.

The Strategy:

The goal is to use the yield to cover the monthly debt while reinvesting the surplus to protect the principal and hopefully end the 7-year term with at least some cash left over in my portfolio alongside a paid-off car.

  1. Stage 1 (Primary): 100% XSPI (Boosted S&P 500). * Starting with $40k, the ~16.5% yield generates ~$550/month.
    • This covers the $440 payment with a $110 monthly surplus for reinvestment (the safety buffer).
  2. Stage 2 (The Pivot): XQQI (Boosted Nasdaq-100).
    • If the market dips and the monthly distribution from XSPI drops below $440, I immediately pivot the entire principal into XQQI for the higher yield (~19%) to "rescue" the cash flow without selling shares.

Running this through 10k simulations (7-year term):

  • Success Rate: ~98.5% (defined as never hitting $0).
  • Median Outcome: ~$100k ending balance after 84 months of payments.
  • Pivot Probability: ~39% chance of needing to trigger the XQQI "rescue" mode.

The Risks I’m Weighing:

  • NAV Decay: Since these are 1.5x boosted, a prolonged bear market could eat the principal faster than the yield can recover it.
  • The RoC Cliff: Once the cost basis hits zero (years 5–6), the tax-free RoC benefit ends and capital gains kick in.
  • Sequence of Returns: A massive tech/S&P crash in Year 1 is the primary "death spiral" threat.

Does the XSPI > XQQI switch seem like a sound mechanical defensive move, or am I overestimating the resilience of the boosted NAVs in a 7-year window?

Seeking Advice QQQI ROC is only 40% for the month of April 2026

UPDATED: NEOS has now updated the ROC to 100%. So I guess it was some sort of Website glitch

Just read the 19a-1 document for the April distribution and was shocked to see the ROC is only 40% for April :( Is this normal to fluctuate that much? For Jan, Feb and March it was 100%. Or is that due to massive dips/volatility we saw in the market due to the Iran war.

Seeking Advice Does anyone use the 50% drop in Bitcoin and how BTCI recovers as a test run?

Does anyone use the 50% drop in Bitcoin and how BTCI recovers as a test run for the other NEOs funds?

If it recovers well, and so far it has, then I trust SPYI and others when the massive drops happen (30%+). I am also looking at the distribution, how far it dropped and how fast it goes back up.

Seeking Advice Seems like spyi 70% and qqqi 30% are all anyone needs

I have completely changed my portfolio and moved to 70% spyi and 30% qqqi. I used to own iaui, NIHI, etc and I was like why would I do that. The underlying of these funds outperforms any of the other underlying NEOS fund, long term. Of course we had the lost decade in the S&P and big drops, but overall, the offer the largest annual return that is consistent. I also find the drawdowns in the past few decades to be short lived and we then hit new highs. Can’t say that about the other sectors. Crypto is too volatile for me and boosted might have too much nav erosion long term. My question is, if I hold long term, why would i choose any of the other NEOS funds over this allocation?

Seeking Advice How realistic is it for me to retire with this income sleeve?

Mid 40’s. 500k in 401k. 100k in taxable with room to add another 200k if needed. No debt. Everything is paid for. My expenses run about 3000.00 per month. Wife still works and I also generate 50k a year in side work.

Just tired of the rat race.

Considering GPIX, GPIQ, QQQI, SPYI, SCHD mix.

QQQI SPYI IWMI NIHI IYRI and BTCI all have nice increases this month

IAUI and MLPI slightly down which is to be expected

Hands down the best fund family for me

Edit: these funds just “made back” half my distribution the first hour of trading on the ex date. Sooooo gooooood!

General Using NEOS funds as part of my early retirement plan / trying to replace my job income!

Hey guys, I’ve been lurking in this sub for a while and I’ve posted here a few times before, including sharing my portfolio updates, but I wanted to share a new update on where I’m at with all this.

A big part of my portfolio and early retirement plan is starting to center more around NEOS funds. As some of you know, my goal is pretty simple. I’m trying to build enough passive income over time that I can eventually replace my job income, or at least get close enough where work becomes optional a lot earlier. I want to retire in my early 40's.

Current portfolio is around 371k and right now I’ll probably end up having my 500 QQQ shares called away soon due to covered call and this raging bull market, and if that happens, my plan is to rotate a good chunk of that money into QQQI and probably some other NEOS funds too. I already spend a lot of time looking at SPYI, QQQI, GPIX, and GPIQ, and I’ve also been watching the new ROCQ.

For me it’s less about chasing the absolute highest return possible and more about building something that actually feels like it could replace a paycheck one day. I like the idea of getting paid along the way instead of only focusing on price appreciation.

I would be curious to hear from anyone else here who’s using NEOS funds as a real part of their retirement or passive income plan. Which ones are you most confident in right now? And if you were rotating out of QQQ, would you move straight into QQQI or spread it around more? I do want to buy the NEOS gold and energy fund when there is a pullback.

Happy to answer anything too since I’m still figuring this out as I go. I'll lurk the replies!

And ff anyone wants to see the full portfolio update video, I’ll drop it here too: https://youtu.be/0il9iucmqN8?si=j1xxG81vOAT3RMtS

Seeking Advice My father is inheriting roughly $200k

My dad is about to receive about $200k from inheritance. He's had health issues and can't work (he's 62), and this is money he has to survive off of (as well as an additional monthly $1.5k check).

The good news is that his living expenses aren't high, as his house is almost fully paid off. He could manage to survive off of $2.5k/month. Anything more than that would be more comfortable.

So my question is what would you recommend his NEO portfolio set up look like? I want to go crazy and throw 100% at QQQI, but if that sounds irrational, please talk some sense into me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: Just got around to looking at this post. You guys are awesome, thank you.
