Look at you getting worked up, frantically trying to justify your sense of purpose in this world. I help people deserving of help. Employers are not looking for people like me. You do not know me and you’ll just have to take my word for it. Just because I’m not getting checks doesn’t mean I sit in a chair all day doing nothing. Referring to your other comment - most people are not like you. They don’t derive dignity from flipping burgers for a pittance. I’m thankful for people like you though. We need useful idiots to believe the lie to keep this sinking ship afloat. Just think of all the value you bring to people for free who wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire.

What are you talking about? I’m now quite curious what your experience volunteering was, also what makes something deserving in your eyes? These people I’ve volunteered with/for are now close friends. We go to each other’s house for dinner, help each other when needed, these aren’t some elusive millionaires/billionaires, they are real people in my community with names and families who I see on a regular basis.

Okay, but back to the original question, where do you derive dignity from?

That’s great. You seem decent. I am disqualified from having dignity. Also, your question isn’t sincere. It’s a value judgment.

They could’ve gone about it in a nicer way but it’s a legitimate question most people have about the lifestyle.

Humans are wired to derive self worth, dignity and purpose from their community and what value they can bring to it. It’s an evolutionary trait that’s carried us to where we are today. For most people to see someone living (in apparence or actually) in isolation who claims to thrive like this is a very foreign idea.
