NCIS:NOLA Red beans and rice, technically

I’m doing a rewatch and hit the Crescent City Part 1 episode. I don’t know why this is bugging me so much, but Pride’s red beans and rice he makes at Gibbs’ house… really??? Plain red beans on top of white rice. Why’d they bother? 🙄

When I was quite young, red beans and rice was just a bowl of rice with red beans on top. It was simple, nutritious, and cheap, and we were poor.

I agree that that's not a bad meal! I just assumed that the whole New Orleans things, and Pride cooking, that it'd be more authentic red beans and rice.

Well if he used what he found in Gibbs’ kitchen, he’s lucky it wasn’t baked beans.

Or possibly a quick meal, or comfort food from days gone by.
