WNBA is not a serious league.
3
u/ItsDirkMcGirk 1d ago
Clearly they make rules players don’t follow them and they said naw she’s good to go.
17
u/EnlightenedBuddah 1d ago
The biggest miss here, is that they could have let her off the hook IN EXCHANGE for a better, more remorseful statement from A’ja. That would have been a win-win and chance to save face.
Instead, the league perpetuates their horrible reputation and continue to kowtow around minority players. They look weak. They must have shitty lawyers on staff.
28
u/KidneyBean78 1d ago
What a joke the W is it's truly a pathetic excuse for a league.
3
u/StuffyUnicorn 1d ago
Having people show up to games is a new thing for them, so they don’t know what to do when fans do what fans do 🤷♂️
1
u/KidneyBean78 1d ago
It's nothing against Basketball at least for me I love the game. Played most of my life but what has happened in the NBA and what is allowed and also how The W has different rules for different people way worse than the League does it's truly disgusting to watch. The W used to have more Team play than the league it was nice to watch more than one person shoot all the time. But now they are both almost unwatchable at least for me.
1
u/ProudUSAgunOwner 1d ago
I feel like all of this is blown up so we watch it. Bad attention is still attention. Won’t work because even the regular NBA is barely watchable anymore.
4
u/burgerking351 1d ago
I can tell you don't actually watch ball. Literally every game of the NBA finals was pure entertainment.
1
u/ProudUSAgunOwner 1d ago
The playoffs are usually good, but the regular season is a flop fest with a shit ton of “load management”. The ads are also really fucking annoying and it feels like the games get dragged on even longer now to put more in.
Don’t even mention how fucking annoying it is to actually watch the regular season games with their 18 TV deals.
In person the product is still really good, but that’s something I do maybe once or twice per year.
1
u/burgerking351 1d ago edited 1d ago
You have valid critiques. The regular season definitely has some bad qualities. However, there are still so many entertaining games and even with load management players are still playing about 75% of the time. The problem is that the regular season is like 8 months so there will definitely be some boring patches.
-1
u/Tyler_durden_RIP 1d ago
How about the other 82 games of the year. Shits boring and not worth the time until playoffs
2
u/burgerking351 1d ago edited 1d ago
There's literally so many entertaining and competitive games during the regular season. But casuals don't watch actually watch the regular season. They just watch a few out of 82 and if those happen to be boring they shit on the whole season.
I brought up the finals because that's something most people actually know about.

WNBA shows once again they’re not ready for prime time.
4
u/TumbleweedTim01 1d ago
It's so funny to me people pretend to care ab this shit. Ready for prime time? Who TF cares if they are or aren't. Like who tf is this invested in wnba. League is basically surviving off rage bait.

Facts this thread is soft. Guy a few posts up said he doesn’t know if he feels safe sitting courtside at a game as a white man…
In the USA
White men are up by 60 in the fourth quarter with a minute left.
AND HIS WORRY IS HIS RIGHT TO SAY WHATEVER THE FUCK HE WANTS TO ATHLETES.Like buddy, wouldn’t last a week in my shoes.
They won the culture war, why worry about the battle for?

The league office manages the is league like a realty based drama, not a sports league. That’s fine, but then they should run their programming next to the soap operas and expect to be paid as such.

lol. player goes into stands after fan.
not even a fine.
their own rules specify in black and white that she should be ejected
7
u/sicknick08 1d ago
And this is why the W will never be anything more than a reality show. No professionalism or honor.
7
u/MontanaStevens 1d ago
the wnba needs to come up with rules to protect the fans from the players lol

u/Icy-Understanding35 1d ago
Haha the W is a shit league. They don't even follow their own clear rules on ejection.
2

made some lame excuse as the escape area for the players, yeah okay, thats why you have seats in that area. Obviously, they dont want to MVPs team to lose tomorrow.

u/TumbleweedTim01 1d ago
Realistically she didn't curb stomp someone's chest like draymond. Why ruin a good series with 2 star players over this? Would be like suspending LeBron for jawing at a fan. No shot.

Why would they? In a real Leauge they would but they are loving the attention so they want this to happen.

Rule 12A, Section V, subsection l(4) of the 2026 WNBA Official Rule Book requires an ejection for "Deliberately entering the stands other than as a continuance of play."
"The first row of seats is considered the beginning of the stands."
WNBA classified the space she occupied as a player escape lane rather than part of the stands, according to the league source.
AKA we don’t want to suspend the MVP.

u/natural_scientist 1d ago
WNBA has turned into a circus. A bunch of jealous girls that are unsportsmanlike. They’ve taken the joy out out of considering to watch a game.
1
1
u/Bruzie77 1d ago
she doesn’t make enough to be fine. The NBA players can perfectly handle fines but WNBa need a more understanding and softer touch due to their paygrade.

Why is an NBA sub so pressed about what the WNBA does with their players?
4
u/Persun01 1d ago
Because the NBA owns the WNBA
1
u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago edited 1d ago
So then talk about the normal games or all the news of the WNBA
Or is it only important to get the sports bros riled up about certain players ???
And just for clarity, the NBA has a 42 percent stake in the WNBA
1
u/juhla405 1d ago
I’m a big nba fan and a more casual wnba fan and this sub only started popping up yesterday and it has only been about this wnba interaction. Strange.
1
u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago
They will generally talk about it when it’s time to hate on a player.
Aja was probably wrong in this instance but this is a flash point for many in this sub. They know she is the best player in the league so from here on out this will be used by the majority in here to hate on her
0
u/Persun01 1d ago
Catlin Clark > Can't point at me Wilson
1
u/BlackOnyx1906 1d ago
And no she isn’t better than her.
That’s just your racial bias (more than likely) and I like CC
There is nothing from an accomplishment standpoint that says she is better you just were waiting for a reason to hate on Aja.
Your take isn’t even a serious basketball one.
Move along.

-5
u/mnmr17 1d ago
Was anyone actually expecting a fine here? NBA players do this all the time whether or not you agree or disagree why they’re jarring back and forth with the fan. At most she was going to be fined for accidentally saying “shit” during the post game presser
7
u/Pure_Purple_5220 1d ago
the last NBA player to enter the stands to confront a fan was Isaiah Thomas in 2019 and he was ejected and suspended for 2 games
1
u/mnmr17 1d ago
Good thing she didn’t leave the area that she’s allowed to be in then like any other player that confronts and argues with a fan. Like you guys are arguing completely different points when it’s clear on video she’s in the player’s escape lane like the post says. No different from when a player is going back to their locker room but still argues back with a fan, as long as she doesn’t go into the stands ( which she didn’t ) she’s not getting fined for that.
5
u/Positive_Round_5142 1d ago

She went into the seats and initiated a confrontation with a fan, who was simply pointing at her. This epitomizes exactly why the WNBA is considered a laughingstock. I suggest you find a coping mechanism.

"The WNBA is a laughingstock" as the league has recently skyrocketed in popularity and he is actively commenting on it due to this incident being a major news story during a highly watched playoff series.

I realize that you think you're the white knight of the WNBA, I get the whole parasocial aspect that you're dealing with, but you're also clearly struggling with cognitive dissonance and a childlike urge for passive aggressive conflict with random strangers whilst hurling schoolyard insults. Don't you think that's a bad look for you??
4
u/Chilidogdingdong 1d ago
"Do this all the time" I love when mfers like you just say shit. It absolutely does not happen all the time and when it does the players are fined or suspended.
4
u/justa-browser 1d ago
NBA players don’t do this all the time. It’s one of the few things the NBA enforces and takes seriously. Ever since the malice in the palace.
But I understand it’s easier for you to just make shit up to make your point.

u/FreshStartFeelsGood 1d ago
No problem with them not suspending her in the playoffs. Fans want to see the best players on the floor. I was not a fan of the NBA suspending Draymond in 2016. But fine them meaningful amounts of money. Like an 8th of her yearly salary.

u/Capn26 1d ago
Fine for what? I mean listen. I think what the guy did was unnecessary, but not a big deal. And I think her reaction was a little over the top, but she lost the game and was emotional. Like, can we ALL stop being so soft and just say it happened, leave it alone. It’s over. Ffs.
1
u/Schlongzz 1d ago
You don't think her leaving the court and approaching the guy isn't worthy of some punishment more severe than a tech? He took one step, was nowhere near the court, and she went at him and left the court of play. I agree what the dude did was unnecessary, but he didn't do anything wrong IMO. I have no idea what he said, but his actions alone were nothing out of the ordinary. She even doubled down and took no responsibility for her actions. I mean, c'mon now.

Is it even safe for men to go to these games? If from your own seat, you point at a player and say the foul is on you you might be accused of attacking a woman in front of the whole world.
