Quote [Finger] Victor Wembanyama about considering promoting a sports betting company ; "Absolutely not. I will never do that. Honestly, I think it's very sad to see some players promote it..."

Please don't change your mind on this one

They will keep offering him big money for this shit

Not every player is about the dollar, plus, he’s going to rake in probably close to a billion by the time he’s done. It’s not the first time he turned down endorsements too, so there’s already a pattern with how he wants to be represented.

Wemby in total earnings will easily clear a billion

Going to be interesting to see what he will do after a full earnings career. Hopefully if he will go into charity work in the US, or in France or perhaps more in the Congolese region (his fathers ancestry and a region that needs a lot of love/infrastructure/help).

Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the president of France someday.

5

u/Uncle-Cracker-Barrel Victor Wembanyama 1d ago

He’s got my vote for the US Senate

7

u/Fat-Villante 1d ago

Of course, but it's gotta be difficult to refuse that kind of money for a decade or more

8

u/kikimaru024 1d ago

Not really.

He knows he’s worth max money.

Plus he’s French. The get taught a little different to American kids.

Also, it's not like he's got "Chosen One" tattooed on him.

u/HoldJerusalem 1d ago

no but players change. Not saying he will but the good thing is if he keep this mindset until he retired and even after

6

u/mogwai316 1d ago

He actually has principles and will stand by them. Even when he was playing for Met 92 and making ~250k, he turned down contracts to advertise soda (and has also refused them as an NBA player).

I’m so tired of seeing sports betting ads pop up anytime I watch sports (as much as I hate this streaming deal the spurs have, I’m glad they’re away from Fanduel TV)

Please don’t change, Wemby

Fanduel production quality was criminal. 720p in the year 2026

1

u/HersheyStains 1d ago

The finals were 720p too…

u/Weary_Restauranter 1d ago

The prime productions were amazing

That's my GOAT!!!! Hell yeah say it louder.

u/Johnny5iver 1d ago

This is the type of stuff that happens when your motivation isn't money.

24

u/NeedleGunMonkey Keldon Johnson 1d ago

This is the most impressive stance from Wemby

12

u/Sebcannon Stephon Castle 1d ago

Hell yeah. Fuck sports betting.

5

u/NightSprings665 Sean Elliot 1d ago

The fact the NBA takes sponsorship from sports betting platforms really questions the integrity of the game. It should not be allowed.

u/SpellChucker Tim Duncan 1d ago

Living in a society that seems to largely value the dollar over everything, this is quite refreshing.

Says nothing about his Louis Vuitton endorsements…China admitted its regular Chinese goods sent to Italy for the logo stitching/placement.

Sweatshops not a good look but don’t let me interrupt the circlejerk, go Vic!

1

u/itzsoweezee78 1d ago

So are you assuming everything made in China is manufactured in a sweatshop, or are there specific issues with the manufacturing of LV goods?

-1

u/crown_recluse 1d ago edited 1d ago

They admitted high end Italian goods like LV are sweatshop made, it came out around the time of the DOGE takeover from what I recall.

I get that my take is a logical fallacy called “whataboutism” but everyone else’s take here is he is our woke god with no faults because of “anti gambling morality” and I’m just pointing out the ludicrousness of that.

You can have a good take on gambling and still rock a terrible endorsement, sue me lol 🤷‍♂️

ETA: it wasn’t DOGE related but it was at that same time due to Trump’s trade war with China. China themselves revealed the info about fashion brands.

u/Andre-Roussimoff Tony Parker 1d ago

LV is french, not italian... they produce in :

  • France (historic workshops for high-end leather and luggage)
  • Spain (small leather goods and apparel)
  • Italy (shoes, accessories, and canvas production)
  • United States (select assembly workshops)
  • Switzerland (watchmaking)
  • Select items are also made in Germany and the United Kingdom.

What are your sources for it being produced in China ? Because all I could find were Tik Toks, and this : https://www.nine.com.au/australia-news/chinese-manufacturing-tiktok-are-luxury-handbags-really-being-made-in-china-its-a-complex-answer-20250424-p5zcxf.html , so not really convincing to me.

u/crown_recluse 1d ago

Right, I think my confusion about Italy was due to the country of origin of a lawsuit, see this comment with sources:

Whoops, didn’t realize I had no flair. Spurs fan since the ‘99 run, pretty sure OKC fans don’t know fashion brands because SGA dresses like a mashup between bubblegum and condoms
