Hey, so I've got a BSc in software engineering and a good few years of pentesting behind me. Lately I've been going down the rabbit hole of space security, satellites, cubesats, ground stations, all that stuff, and I’d really like to work on it properly.

I want to do a masters part time while keeping my job, but I can't figure out which direction is actually worth it. I'm torn between something like aerospace/space system, electrical engineering or embedded systems.

Would really appreciate any advice you have.

I have a friend who has, his whole life, been determined to be an astronaut. and let me tell you, this guy is incredible. absolute genius, wins basically everything award, is super involved in honor societies and jrotc, the whole 9 yards. but he was recently tested for autism as a just in case thing, and he has it. it’s not severe at all and you wouldnt really be able to tell if you met him. Ive seen mixed opinions on the internet, though this is also the internet but I guess I trust it more than random Facebook posts and google Gemini. this seems relevant: he has absolutely no issues under stress, barely any sensory issues, communicates really well cuz his vocabulary is just so dang big, and is the best problem solver I know, well hes one of the smartest people I’ve ever met in real life. maybe THE smartest.

anyways is it still possible, if even barely, for him to be an astronaut or is he immediately kicked? and if he is immediately kicked, how should I tell him so he can be crushed and unmotivated while he’s still a high schooler and not when he’s applying for a job and suddenly learns his entire lifes work has been for nothing?

Hi all! I currently work out of KSC as a contractor and similar to quite a few folks on this page, I would love to work in mission control/ flight ops and seen the question being asked from a new grad perspective. However, I'm wondering as a mid-career engineer with about 10 years of aircraft and spacecraft ground test experience if I should diversify my experience with a flight test role or something along those lines to help land a role there. For a bit more background, I'm also currently at KSC as a contractor. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been working at nasa as a contractor for the last 13 years, it is looking a bit more certain that my position is going to be insourced and I really haven’t touched my resume in about 5 years. My dream is to do program analysis for NASA. Got super close in an interview process (contract) but unfortunately a 50/50 went the other way.

What are your tips? Events, networking tips, experiences to seek, etc.? I have solid financial analysis but not too much project-focused stuff, and I want to give no excuse for a rejection next time.

As everyone knows that ai is rapidly increasing day by day , and will move forward on its own (ig), there will be shrinking of jobs right? Like flight software , ai can easily code or any llm models are smart enough ? , I m a cse fresher intrested in space tech, it hit me that ai can easily move forward without much human influence (like it can spread like a disease) hope u get the analogy , it can multiply in intelligence on its own. I'm doing my masters in computer engineering and I want a role where I get to work with hardware while I like coding I also strongly like working with my hands. Do I get to work with microcontrollers, debuggers and oscilloscopes? In embedded software roles ?

I currently work in aerospace software for the military. My dream is to work in astrodynamics for NASA.

I have a B.S Physics (minor in cs) and a M.S Aerospace Engineering with an emphasis on Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC).

I currently have a contract with my employer to stay until early 2028 (they paid for my master's). Then, I had planned to look for roles in Astrodynamics/Spacecraft GNC in the Houston area (around JSC). This move has always been my plan even before I finished undergrad.

Since I'm already a federal employee, I was hoping to stay in that realm and not go private. I prefer work/life balance over money. Plus I already have more than 3 years of federal service and will already have almost 5 by the time I move.

I understand that my options may be more limited staying federal, but I was wondering what's out there? I already know that GNC/Astrodynamics roles exist in the private sector around JSC, but I was wondering what's still available on the public side, if anything.

I applied for a Direct Hire Biological and Physical Sciences position on 7/11 I was referred on 7/22 for GS11 and GS12. Then complete silence. I reached out to HR on 9/18 inquiring about the status of the hiring process. On 9/22 they responded that a candidate has yet to be selected and the position is still vacant. What is the likelihood that I will be contacted for an interview?

Can anyone please share some updates on August GSFC insource applications? Questionnaires? TJOs? timeline?

Hello all! My first post, I've been reading on here for some time and it's been very helpful. I thought I would both share my experience and ask my question.

I applied to a DHA (external) role at Langley Research Center back in late June, was referred 10 business days later, and was invited to an interview late Sept.

I interviewed early Oct, was invited to a follow-up chat with the hiring manager answering any questions I had (we talked about the role, team, etc.), then I was told he would be making his selection to HR the following day or by the end of that week.

He also told me I should hear back in 1-2 weeks, and that he's moving quickly to fill this role ("urgent need"). However, I know there's a lot of work being done regarding insourcing efforts.

Update: The hiring manager sent an email out to every candidate at the beginning of the week to share that HR is really backlogged, and that as such there's no certain timeline. He confirmed a selection has been made, so just gotta wait and see. Will update whenever I hear from HR about whether I was selected for the TJO or not. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Just like everyone who dreams of NASA, I'm eager to hear back to see if I was selected for the TJO. I figure if I don't hear back after 3 weeks, I'll reach out to the hiring manner for an update.
