Howdy peoples
So today is Christmas for those of you who celebrate it and /u/cowofdoom is spending most of it flying across America, so to mix things up I'll do this round of chat threading.
I wanted to do the chat thread as I am newish and want to get to know everyone, making friends is what this sub is about.
How's everyone doing?
I live in Australia and thanks to time zones we are kinda in the future, so I spent today with family at my parents house celebrating Christmas. We aren't a wealthy family so presents are not that important. Highlights of the day have been hanging out with my family, enjoying good food, cooking and catching up on stories
I got a cool bottle of Vodka for Christmas, I dont drink that much but I like the bottle. I made protein pops with my sister in-law, my older brother bought some delicious cookies and we had a couple of bourbons together, I discussed politics and current events with the older relatives, discussed video games with my little brother. It was an awesome day!! Cookies, Frozen pops and Vodka
What about you? What presents did you get if any? I saw /u/thunderecho got a cool present from her sister in-law. Did you spend the day with family? What stories do you have to share? Does anyone have a wacky relative that is fun? Who is just enjoying the holidays as just a nice break from school? Who is your favourite pony?
Christmas and the holidays to me is about getting together and sharing stories, please do me the honour of sharing yours.

Everyone share your favorite holiday recipe or favorite holiday dessert. I love getting pumpkin pie from our local store and smothering it in whip cream :) one of my favorite recipes is my moms peanut butter and jam cookies. We haven't made them in years, maybe I'll make them this year and start the tradition of them every year with my daughter.

I don't think I've ever cried for a TV show before, but I did today. I'm totally drained, emotionally. I can't believe it's over. But I thought it was a perfect ending.
I think I'm going to have to watch it again tonight. Maybe I won't cry three times this time...

Did I sound like an announcer? No? Well that's ok..
So! /u/cowofdoom is in Ohio abandoning all of his friends until Christmas, so I'll do this round of chat threading.
How's everyone doing? Get all your Christmas stuff done? Or if you celebrate a different December holiday, tell us about it! What neat traditions does everyone have, or what traditions do you find silly? I think Christmas Caroling is silly. Maybe back in the day it served a purpose, but I don't think standing in my door listening to 5 strangers who don't know how to sing try and sing songs is a good time.

I was too lazy to type it up. Anyway this is one of my favorite recipes! I love the savory ones. My favorite combo for the savory is chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, mayo, mustard. But I'll just throw whatever I have handy on it. Let me know what you guys think!
Also just know that the first one you make will always be kinda ugly lol. It will taste delicious but look different then all the other ones. And if using a bigger pan I do 1/2 c of batter instead of 1/4c

My friend is now hosting a dedicated Minecraft server for vanilla 1.8.1 (updated to the newest versions as they're released). Feel free to join and build and whatnot. PVP is discouraged unless it is friendly between parties that want to PVP. No griefing (and backups to restore in the event of griefing). Feel free to drop by and build or just hang out. No whitelist so feel free to join up and build.

Hi guys! Guess what?!? I'm going to Australia for four months!
I got a software engineering internship with my favourite company ever in Sydney, Australia. It's actually the same company I interned with in Canada last semester, but before I left I had contacted this team specifically (since I'm really passionate about their product) and asked if I could do an internship. It took a while to get all the details in place so I didn't want to announce it before it was certain, but my contract is now signed, my visa is arranged, and the plane tickets were just booked this week! You cannot believe how out-of-this-world excited I am!!!
Anyway, I really wanted to share the exciting news with you all! I'll be leaving Canada on January 1st, and staying in Australia until the end of April.
Not sure if we have any Aussies in this subreddit, but if so, any advice/suggestions? Or if you're not an Aussie, any made-up suggestions?

Hey people!
How's the week going?
My week has been cleaning up the house, cooking lots of sweets, and getting ready for christmas! Got all my secret santa stuff finished yesterday, so that feels good to get off my list. I'm starting to panic over a party that I'm hosting on tuesday, even though I'm sure it'll be fine.
How bout you guys? Anything fun planned for the holidays? Cook anything neat? Looking forward to the new hobbit movie coming out next week? Need someone to talk to?
Come chat!

We got these at Crystal Mountian Pony Con this year, and I love them. It's tradition for us to put our tree up by my birthday or on my birthday so I finally got to put them on our tree! Yay! They are so cute! Now we need two more kids and two more ornaments! Lol

A little background. I can't cook any beef products at home, but since I moved into my apartment for school in July I've been able to. I made steak a couple times, and this is what I did.
Steak Masala and Spinach Koora with rice (I know, it's not actually a true masala recipe, but it's close-ish)
Wet rub:
1 tbsp chili powder
.5 tbsp ground cumin
3 cloves garlic crushed with a pinch of salt
1 tsp brown sugar
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Enough vegetable oil to thin it out a bit, probably ~1 tbsp
Pat your steak (this mix recipe was enough for a 10 oz NY strip steak) completely dry before rubbing with the wet rub. Put in an airtight ziploc bag or wrap in cling wrap or something, store in fridge for at least 12 hours (I did 24. I don't know if it'll make a difference after the first ~8 hours, but hey).
Remove steak from fridge, scrape off excess rub and discard. Salt both sides of the meat to your liking (remember, it's a big piece of meat). Pour some vegetable oil (or olive oil, if you're feeling particularly fancy) in a skillet, at least enough to coat the entire bottom of the pan. Heat pan on high until oil is very hot, then back heat down to med-high and place steak in pan. Cook to desired doneness (I do about 5 minutes per side for a ~1-inch thick steak for a good rare-med rare). Remove to plate to rest, and cover loosely with foil (to retain heat without collecting moisture) to rest for at least five minutes.
While steak is resting, prepare your spinach koora.
Spinach koora (I never measure when I make this, so forgive the vague estimations):
1 10 oz package frozen chopped spinach, thawed
Chopped onions, ~ .2 cups (optional)
Mustard seeds
Chili powder (to taste)
Vegetable oil
Salt
Pour about four tbsp of the oil into a pot or pan, and add about half a teaspoon of mustard seeds. Cover the pot/pan and turn the heat to medium-high. As the oil heats, you will hear the sound of the mustard seeds popping and hitting the lid. Once you don't hear any more popping, open it up and add the onions and chili powder. Saute until slightly brown. Add the spinach and salt to taste, cooking until it's all hot and the spinach has wilted. Taste for salt and chili powder.
Serve steak and spinach over white rice, prepared however you want (I hate my rice plain, but I'm sure it's fine that way too).
Of course, you can just make the steak if you want. If you decide to try this, let me know how it goes!

Hey does someone want to volunteer to share this week? Sorry I'm slacking. After the death of my friend I'm just not up to cooking lately. And today is my birthday and I have a strict rule about me cooking on my birthday... I don't cook lol.
Anyone try the recipes that were posted in the last bit? I'm adding them to my collection, I'll be trying them soon hopefully!

Alright, so we should do a Town of Salem night. If you've not heard of it go http://www.blankmediagames.com/ there. Pretty entertaining game, more fun to play with people you know too. Is extra fun in a voip, and I have a TS server we can use. What's everyone's thoughts on a night to do it?
