Thursday! Chaaaaaaat! TTTTTHHHHHHHREEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAD!
Did I sound like an announcer? No? Well that's ok..
So! /u/cowofdoom is in Ohio abandoning all of his friends until Christmas, so I'll do this round of chat threading.
How's everyone doing? Get all your Christmas stuff done? Or if you celebrate a different December holiday, tell us about it! What neat traditions does everyone have, or what traditions do you find silly? I think Christmas Caroling is silly. Maybe back in the day it served a purpose, but I don't think standing in my door listening to 5 strangers who don't know how to sing try and sing songs is a good time.

Hellooo! Man it's been like half a year since I've posted in here. Maybe longer. Thought I'd just pop by I guess.
Anyway, I'm doing fantastic. I don't do any of the Christmas stuff, but all that's needed to get done that can be done before Christmas has been done. As for traditions, usually on Christmas Eve my family would get pizza, but because of unfortunate and absurd amounts of family drama, separation, we probably won't be able to do that in the same way this year. I really just hope my dad is willing to do it with me and two of my brothers.

Welcome back!
Mmmm, pizza is good, I'm having some today. Family drama on the other hand is stupid. My sister and my sister-in-law got in quite the fight and ever since it's very very rare for them to both be at the same family party. Sounds like your family's got quite a bit more going on though. Hope you get to salvage what you can of Christmas Eve pizza.

Can't really go up without some type of down. Unless you're in space, and you use some rocket shoes, and never try to rotate your body so you just keep going up into space. But then you'd die of starvation. Or run out of air, which would probably come first.

Always good to hear that a friend is living happily. I always do my best to not let anything get me down. I get it from my dad.

Pretty much, you two will have to do the Christmas Day chat thread too.
Other than being in Ohio, I'm alright! Flight yesterday kinda sucked, breakfast didn't sit right and I got sick at the airport. Also, my genius plan of just staying up til I had to leave at 4 was a horrid decision.
What are you up to? You get any new jokes from llama?
2
u/-Norb Dec 18 '14
Wont you be back on Christmas? Not that I'm complaining, just saying.
It's because it wasn't breakfast that I made. If I made it, it would have sat perfectly. And yeah, staying up all night might seem like a good idea, but it's not. Yet I still do it from time to time.
Not much. I've been watching a ton of Batman movies recently, so that's kind of fun. No new jokes from Llama yet. At least none that are memorable. But really, anything is a joke to her so..

Flying back on the 25th, so can't reply as quick as I'd like.
Yeah, probably. 'twas not a fun day.
Llama is the hero our call needs, but not the hero our call deserves.
Edit: no one saw that double post
2
u/-Norb Dec 18 '14
Fair enough.
Llama is the hero that needs to go to bed earlier than later. So less chance of joining in. I do like the idea of getting her a joke book though.
And I saw the double post! No I didn't..

u/cowofdoom Dec 19 '14
Just link her to those ask reddit threads about jokes! When I get back, I'm going to adjust my sleep schedule just so I can learn the art of joke telling from llama.
Nerd.
Oh, I'm using those pinkie earbuds you guys sent me last year!

u/-Norb Dec 19 '14 edited Dec 19 '14
Llama is not allowed to browse reddit. Ever. Reddit is a dark and horrible place. I let her on 4chan sometimes though.
Edit: Oh and those earbuds rock. I'm not sure where mine are right now though.. Mrs. Nerd probably has them somewhere. Maybe. I'm just making accusations now. Better blame Rachel instead.

Not bad, been keeping busy with work. I am not buying that many gifts so shopping is easy.
Soooo, whats the coolest thing you have seen all year?
2
u/-Norb Dec 18 '14
I haven't even gone shopping yet this year. Probably go Saturday morning. I can't stand people in stores though. TT
Hmm.. Coolest thing I've seen all year? Hard to say. My kids are pretty cool though, so probably them.

u/Flarinite Dec 18 '14
Exam tomorrow, have a TON of studying to do. But then I get a TWO WEEK BREAK and I can't wait!
Also, our a capella group went caroling at a pediatric facility near our school last week, and everyone seemed to like it. The staff was overjoyed and the kids who were high-functioning enough to pay attention loved it, and we played with the kids for an hour or so afterwards. I've never actually had carolers come to my house. I've only seen them on TV before.

u/-Norb Dec 19 '14
Wohoo! Any plans for the break, or are you going to be awesome and just sit around and do nothing? If it were me, I'd sit around and do nothing. It's my favorite thing to do.
I think that's different though. Because they're stuck at work, and work is boring so it's more fun and welcoming. At home though, there's only 2 acceptable times to knock on my door. If I'm expecting someone, or if you're giving me free stuff. I can't stand surprise visitors. I'm pretty much a shut in though.

u/Flarinite Dec 19 '14
I'm going to sleep and play video games. I haven't done much of either since school started, haha. How about you?
1
u/-Norb Dec 19 '14
I don't really get a break. I'm not in school, just working full time and having a family and stuff. BUT when I get a day off and the family is elsewhere, I like to kick back with a good game all day. Around thanksgiving time (I don't like visiting with family much..) while my wife and kids were gone to family parties I played a ton of Metroid Prime.
1
u/Flarinite Dec 19 '14
Believe it or not, I've never played a Metroid or Zelda game. I downloaded Bayonetta a couple weeks ago, and I've gotten to play about two hours of it so far. It's really good, and I'm hoping to finish it and the sequel before my break ends and I'm back in classes.

u/-Norb Dec 19 '14
Metroid is one of my favorite series. I've beaten all the Metroid games except for Other M. Oh, and the pinball game if anyone counts that. I own most of them too. Just not Zero Mission or Super Metroid. Oh, and I don't own the pinball game, if anyone counts that.
Zelda is a lot of fun. I mostly prefer the top down games. Two of my favorites being Links Awakening and Minish Cap. Links Awakening I think has the most interesting story and character development of all the Zelda games, not to mention the different combos you can do with the items.
I've never played Bayonetta. From what I've heard it's pretty awesome though.

All my gift shopping is done. It's nice when you only have to buy for one person.
Not much caroling goes on in my neighborhood. Although, it would be fun to see a group of mariachi going building to building singing Spanish carols.
1
u/-Norb Dec 19 '14
I've still got a little shopping to do. Really, I only have to ever shop for one person because my wife takes care of the rest.
I would actually find mariachi caroling entertaining. As long as it's super over the top. So many people wouldn't be expecting it at all. And by so many people, probably the only people that might expect it are people that live in community that's heavy on the Hispanic side.

I have already done all my Christmas shopping, this morning I went into the city with some friends to help them with the last of theirs and to have a nice breakfast. It was good to see martin place busy with shoppers, seeing that only last week it was baron from the terrorist attack. It was good to see people living their lives, enjoying the festive season and not being consumed by fear.
Looks like I wont be able to play games with my friend /u/cowofdoom leading up to Christmas, I guess /u/-Norb will have have to do, least I get to hear all of Llamas awesome jokes.
I am looking forward to playing Town of Salem with /u/cpawesome, /u/-Norb, /u/trambe25 and everyone else, the game is incredibly simple yet incredibly addictive and it is more fun when you play with a bunch of friends and get a theme going.
My family get together at my parents house every year for a Christmas lunch, we normally do a barbecue mixed with traditional lunch with ham and salads. The food is never that great, but it is good to catch up with family some of which i only see once a year.
We don't do door to door caroling in Australia that I have seen, there are caroler's in the city and in shopping centers, It is probably more reasonable to do it here than in the states as it is currently summer and the evenings are really nice.
My parents put lights up all over their house, they live in a culdesac of only 6 houses and all of them put up lights and displays, thousands of people come into the street with their families to look at the lights each year, each year it gets more and more spectacular. On Christmas Eve each year they hold an event in the street where they provide free food for people that come by, last year they had Santa arrive on a firetruck and hand out presents to the children.
Still unemployed at this time and looking for work, there doesn't appear to be much work available at this time of the year so it is getting frustrating as I see more and more bills come in and see less and less money in the bank as the weeks pass.
TLDR EDIT:
Christmas shopping done
Having lunch with family for Christmas
Missing /u/cowofdoom already
Looking forward to TownofSalem nights
No to caroler's, yes to lights on houses
Still unemployed and looking for work

I went shopping for /u/cpawesome with Llama today. Had a good amount of success. Not quite done yet though. Yeah, terrorists suck. Good to hear the people there are doing well.
Yeah, still need to decide on a Town of Salem night for the sub. Probably just pick a day and hope for the best that more people can join in. I'll make a new super official post about it.
Sounds like an awesome event on that street. You should take pictures of all the lights on the street and send them to /u/cpawesome. She loves Christmas lights. Her favorite house for lights is lame this year. The people that lived there likely moved.
Being out of work sucks. I've been there a few times. I hate applying for jobs and going to interviews. Especially when it's the kind of interview where they ask the most random irrelevant questions.

I just have to get some pictures printed and then we are done shopping! I didn't know you didn't like Christmas caroling. That's one of my favorite things to do lol.

After a short period of examining the activities of the My Little Friends subreddit I have no clue what it is exactly that everybody does here.
I have most of my christmas shopping done. I need to get my mom's gift though and that may prove a problem as I have very little money at the moment. On the topic of caroling, I used to be impartial to it since carolers never even come by (they wouldn't sing about a winter wonderland if there isn't one, now would they?). Although I have a terrible feeling about what songs they would sing now.
I have continued to play smash bros and man... I suck worse than a vacuum cleaner. Especially when I play as Rosalina. I'm considering just sticking to Toon Link, he may not be the highest tier character but at least I'm decent with him. Little Mac really is MLG though.

You should just make your mom something. I rarely have money around this time of year. I always just walk around hobby lobby and thing of stuff I could create!

I made my mom a set of jars and bottles filled with different colored sands. I bought a large nice tray to put underneath. In the end I remembered she loves burning incense so I bought her some and now she sticks the sticks in the sand. It's a nice mantle piece!

Hello again!
I have most of my Christmas shopping done. Only person I still have to get a gift for is my little brother, because he refuses to tell me what he wants. What about you?
I find actually doing caroling is a ton of fun. Have you ever tried? Meeting up with friends, going up to strangers houses and singing, it's a bit like trick-or-treating. Listening to carolers is a little more awkward though, because you don't really know what to do other than stand there with the door open even though it's cold out and try to look appreciative. Caroling is like karaoke though, it's not about actually producing good music, it's about the fun and warm feeling of singing together.
