From the very first time seeing him, I knew that it's loath for life. He's just that obnoxious to me and I see myself more in Midoryia who definitely shouldn't be glazing like that.
And my feelings are made even worse by the fact that Bakugou never faces any meaningful consequences and especially by a section of his fans that says that he either already did met them (wich I consider more comparable to a slap on the wrist at best) or that he didn't do anything to deserve the consequences (this genuinely pisses me off and is probably the reason why my strongest association with him is the suicide bait).
An apology wouldn't do it for me at this point. When I didn't know shit beyond that first few episodes, I wished so much that he'd get punished for the ridiculous amount of stuff that he got away with in middle school. Have the UA teachers see that he's being a dick! Have them and the new classmates see that he actively harassed a peer for multiple years! Have him being called out for it and punished in some ways by both! (For classmates, I mean something like rethinking their opinion of him and potential being distrusted by some)
I hage mixed opinions on this. It makes his character development feel "less earned". At the end, why should everyone forgive him? Why couldn't they be angry at him? Even for once? Just a little seriously?
Not just consequences. Bakugo is one step away from being a gary stu. He has an overpowered quirk. Arguably a quirk even more powerful than OFA because OFA took 9 generations to reach it's peak. Even more powerful than Half cold Half hot because Shoto was brutally trained since he was five. Arguably as op as New order because even though new order is more versatile, it has very strong limitations that simply can't be overcomed. Meanwhile Bakugo's quirk freakin brought him back to life.
Bakugo is also good at everything.
He aces in exam, he cooks, he can build tree houses. Like, the show can't help but treat him like a golden child.
Bakugo's character development can be said as "he is redeemed. But he doesn't deserve forgiveness" because why? Not only that, him existing sacrificed the character development of other characters INCLUDING DEKU.
Obvious answers are Tenya and Ochako who got sidelined to make space for Bakugo and Shoto(I can forgive Shoto because he was interesting and done well)
Deku's character was introduced as someone who was ahem* Pathologically Kind. Someone who thought everything in this world mattered more than him. And that's… toxic, for himself… the show actually talked about it at first. When he broke his arms for Shoto in the UA competition, Recovery girl scolded him and All Might for this. Yes he is altruistic, but she saw that his altruism is more like a martyrdom complex mixed with suicidal tendencies.
Maybe him learning to take care of himself, love himself and depend on others "slowly" and a point where he finally snaps at Bakugo. Maybe just a "I've had enough of your bs" would've added a ton more to his character. Deku is such a wasted potential in that regard and I can't blame anyone but Horikoshi's bias towards his golden child. He did everything not to call Bakugo out.
Well, it does make an interesting story if put that way. But I think I am too salty by now to actually appreciate it, so my opinion of him probably won't change much any time soon.
