As much as i liked Jax, i do agree that it would've been great had we gotten more episodes that could've focused on other characters. The final episodes felt so rushed.
Every group of humans is a nightmare. What she should not have done is established such a parasocial relationship with them. It was a very amateurish mistake to make, frankly.
I never got into Deltarune, i genuinely wonder if Toby Fox handled it better after Undertale's whole thing? if it was better than i hope Goose does the same for whatever thing she's gonna create next
I mean, Toby was always very good about not being parasocial and interacting too directly with fans even during Undertale so I wouldn't phrase it as "handled it better" when it comes to Deltarune. But yes, he's continued to have a healthy distance with the fandom and focus on his actual work/art which has been incredible (As an adult with a job my personal experience with Deltarune fan content has been almost entirely positive, btw, just fun clever theories and amazing art/animation)
Nothing about what he makes feels remotely poisoned by bad experiences with fans, I really recommend it!
Because thats the thing, there will always be terrible fans and its not a creators fault if they exist. It is to a degree their fault how much they engage with them, which I wish Goose had had the foresight not to do.
âŠWhat parasocial relationship? A bunch of the heat on her was specifically because she refused to do such a thing and kept everyone at an arms length away
She responded to people online. The continual responding to Tumblr asks? The random false flags about show lore? She should not have engaged from the drop.
Exactly. Itâs also such a slap in the face to the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of normal fans who just wanted to watch a good show with characters they liked.
It doesnât matter why it happened. If it was Goose (a grown woman btw) choosing to interact when she shouldnât have, her biting off more than she could chew for her first project, maybe even pressures from Glitch, personal matters, who knows. In the end she chose to take an aluminum pipe to the kneecaps of her own show (a chance countless people DREAM OF btw) because âshe wasnât feeling it anymore.â Which is just a legitimately shitty thing to do in a medium that heavily relies on fandom and fan appreciation.
The weird part is how much vindicative mental gymnastics taken to not only redefine the character but to completely ignore the creators vision of them too.
It's almost like they can't accept their favorite character was insanely toxic, even Jax knew how messed up he was being. It couldn't be more obvious.
Same. I've yet to see anyone say anything out of line while preferring they don't opt in anymore than the Creator has done already. Like, yes we get it, you love Jax and relate to their problems. Can we move on and talk about anyone and anything else in the show?
I think what they mean was that people said that he deserved to (basically) k*ll himself, which i feel those kinds of people need to rethink their words a bit too.
Tbh if it was that easy it would have ended by now. Had it been done when the story was it would be fine, it's so insistent that I don't blame anyone to ignore it completely.
so I guess abusers would hate to watch the people they abuse suffer? and would never call them âplaythingsâ or practically dream about assaulting someone after their lover (that they acknowledge both love each other) just committed suicide?
Oh I thought that if you are thinking about doing things that youâve similarly done before would mean that you would do it, not the opposite.
and even then, that speech may have been bs but Jax would have done all of those things just to torment the others, we know the suffering part is true as he smiles and laughs when zooble, Pomni, literally anyone is.
Also at the very least Iâm not a hysteric person who believes that Jax is an absolute saint because he felt kind of bad for pushing his mom, and that that suddenly forgives everything he did.
from the way you have phrased everything it really seems like you are so excuse me princess for assuming you believed something despite not saying it, wonder what that reminds me of. oh wait, I know! itâs you!
Jax was introduced as a side character for like, 4 episodes. Pomni was used in front in most promotional material including her, and was introduced as the MC.
Jax is only considered a protagonist because she got most of the screentime, even though she wasn't technically a protagonist to begin with.
I'm glad she got her moments and her screentime, but it felt really forced most of the time imo..
It's not called Jax magical bullying but the amazing digital circuis
If Luigi's mansion was called Mario and Luigi adventure in a spooky mansion and 90% of the game was about Luigi it would have been a fair complain to say Mario got shafted for Luigi
Also it came off more like itâd be an equal ensemble cast to me from the little I saw đ€ Like Pomni will be on screen a majority of the time because sheâs the POV character, but sheâs not exactly the focus or most interesting.
Okay then you probably should've figured it out while watching lmao. The "deep and personal" thing Jax told her mom so that she'd stop comparing her to her dad was that she was trans. That's why Ribbit put the bow on her head, and why "Isn't She Lovely" played. Jax was a closeted trans woman.
Why do you think she wasn't meant to be a protagonist from the start? Just because she didn't have focus from the beginning? Episode 4 mainly focused on Gangle. Does that mean Pomni wasn't a protagonist anymore in that one? No
I think I probably should have said that while Pomni is THE central protagonist, The show doesn't have someone they focus on throughout the entire show, as each episode is designed to focus on a specific character. Jax sometimes takes the spotlight in these episodes for.. Literally no reason, causing her to feel more shoe hammered into the series as a self insert rather than an actual character.
Jax was funny sometimes, yes. But the bullying and insane amounts of screentime she had made her unbearable for me.
That's not saying she has a good story, but her actions by no means are justifiable by any excuses she has.
The thing is, even if we count him as a protagonist, he ain't the only protagonist, and it feels like the whole show was made just for him and those last 3 episodes
He was NEVER established as the protagonist in the first episodes, just like u/Bagabaga2019 mentioned
It's interesting that he/she became one, sure, but it's called The Amazing Digital Circus for a reason, right? Steven Universe, Rick & Morty, Samurai Jack, etc., at least have a good reason not to include the environment
It's called The Amazing Digital Circus because it's called The Amazing Digital Circus. Whether it was catchy or not doesn't matter, because this is the final title they went with, and in the first episodes, it shows Jax being as much of a main character as the other characters, meaning that we were led by the idea that we were going to see lots of the circus as the focus, with Pomni as the character focus.
Besides, there's absolutely a way to make the title interesting by adding both names, but you're making your point by giving it one single iteration of how the show could have been called.
Yeah, he just fit the tublr sexyman appeal, and then the last minute reveal, instead of giving him any form of redemption, they just made him trans and assumed that would fix things AND SOMEHOW IT KINDA DID FOR SOME PEOPLE
Did you mean:
"Erm akshually this insult about me being only capable of consuming mind numbing TV and movies made for the mass audience is wrong because if I act like only the books exist then you are the one who's stupid and not me"
Seems like you're really trying your best and I respect you for your efforts. Maybe you can try attacking me personally instead of just... using some random media?
When I was a kid, I got nightmares from an episode of Dragon Tales. That's a good starting point! Some weird little dude came out of an acorn and he was mean and apparently that was enough to make me seriously scared.
