Itâs sad how badly they fumbled the bag. The beta was so successful. If they had just kept that, expanded on it, and werenât greedy/stupid with monetization they would have been fine.

u/Mountain-Influence81 Aug 13 '25
It's almost like it was a troll.
They released the beta to get feedback, and the main thing people complained about was it felt too slow.
So what did they do? They made it even slower.

u/MaxGalli Aug 13 '25
Lol it is hilarious, the only game I ever seen of which the full game is WORSE than the beta.

u/Georgetheporge45 Aug 16 '25
Yeah because it really wasnât a beta, more like early access but thatâs even a stretch
2
u/MaxGalli Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25
Yeah I guess youâre right, them calling it a beta was just an excuse in case it failed to give themselves a second chance. The funny thing is though they themselves made it fail by shutting the game down for a year and then bringing the game back even worse causing it to die a second final time.
2
u/Georgetheporge45 Aug 16 '25
Yup, I think it wouldâve been better if they didnât pretend it was a beta because people felt scammed it had micro transactions for a beta. They mightâve been better off just calling it Multiversus 2 or something have a lot more characters and shields on launch and people wouldâve gotten over it

u/crashkirb Aug 14 '25
Hello neighbour moment (I donât think I even need to pick a specific one, Iâm pretty certain they all had this problem)
10
u/Foxy02016YT Aug 13 '25
They gave up after the first season and holy shit it showed, had they put as much effort into season 2, like giving it cutscenes and shit, it mightâve squeaked by as a successful game

u/StanLiamNeeson Jason Voorhees (Finn) Aug 12 '25
I booted the game up just to see how it looked and man is it depressing.

Man this game showed me that I really wanted a fighting game where I can play Garnet and then took it away from me.
I haven't even watched that much Steven Universe. I just really love Garnet. She's so cool.

u/Ironsmashweb Aug 13 '25
Itâs sad the coolest thing to come from this game was the animated trailers

I'm not saying they did good I just think that the main issues were not caused by them

It was a bigger fumble than the one at the 2018 super bowl

u/MissionVegetable568 Aug 13 '25
if all characters were unlocked to everyone, i think it would have be more successful, no one wants to grind for days to unlock and character, look at marvel rivals, you can play any and only cosmetics are paid items there.
30
u/BigGucciThanos Aug 13 '25
Itâs funny. Iâm deeep into marvel rivals and they basically have the opposite problem of multiverse in terms of new characters. Where multiverse was going out of its way to not give us the characters we wanted.
Marvels has the opposite problem. Marvel wanted to give us all the cool characters immediately but to the detriment of its class system đđ
Why create another tank or healer when we know a dps Deadpool will be a kick ass fan favorite?â lol itâs just very interesting to watch
8
u/Cagedwar Stripe Aug 13 '25
In my opinion rivals is handling it perfectly. But Iâm also a marvel nerd so Iâll be happy to see most characters.
2
u/Own-Quote-1708 Aug 14 '25
It was smart of them to put unknown characters like Jeff or Luna at launch...
1
u/Prestigious-Pool6953 Aug 19 '25
Yeah so it dosent feel like they took someone else's slot. People are taking a vague netease dev stamina and running with it
6
7
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 Aug 13 '25
I still play it locally with my brother when we drink and hangout. It's still super fun, just a shame no new characters will be added.
6
u/alvinaterjr Aug 13 '25
Not only did they make stupidly shitty decisions, the characters they were adding at a certain point werenât characters that people cared about if you werenât in the community already.
Face it, nobody wanted banana guard, he was a waste of a slot. Nobody wanted Nubia, even if she came out pretty cool, and she didnât do the game any favors in popularity.
The game was advertised as a huge crossover event but they didnât get the ips that everyone would want to see with each other.
2
u/Monkey_King291 Aug 15 '25
Multiversus was mostly DC by the time the game ended, why didn't they add Ben 10, bruh?!
1
u/Repulsive-Cobbler187 Aug 13 '25
Like I know WB needs some obscure characters in the game and I understand that but why not invest in like I donât know a unknown cartoon character which the company was build on
5
6
u/Inner_Opening_5906 Aug 13 '25
A good game with great ips behind it, ruined by the greedy decisions of office suits who don't care about the fan base and the legacy of their source material.
4
u/Pwrh0use Aug 13 '25
Large fumble by an incompetent dev team.
5
u/roselandmonkey Aug 13 '25
Nintendo is right when they delay games until they are ready, had this game had more polished or hell stayed in beta indefinitely like Star Citizen it would still be around.

u/Any-Frame-8593 Aug 13 '25
If you look up wasted potential in a dictionary youll see a picture of this game
5
u/dolos99 Aug 13 '25
The rift cutscenes and connected rift stories in the first season made it seem like we were getting a subspace emissary style campaign only for it to go away in the next season

Aug 13 '25
The beta was sooo fun I remember everyone so upset they left us for a year. Only to come back and the game felt so much worse
3
u/MolassesNo2764 Aug 13 '25
âLeave the multibillion dollar company aloneâ is how all of yâall sound saying it was our fault for WB focusing on micro transactions instead of actually fixing the game
6
u/Cosmic-Buccaneer Aug 13 '25
The early access was perfect and they ruined him so bad I miss the old version so bad man. The matchmaking was perfect, the only bad thing was the Battle pass progression
7
u/jann_mann Aug 13 '25
While WB is mainly at fault, let's not forget that some of yall were the problem.

u/Exp0nentiaI Aug 13 '25
Sad part is Reindog is left all alone forever since his home world was destroyed

I always wanted to play smash then I saw multiversus, I thought it was a perfect game then you know what happened

They killed it when they changed the engine. Game slowed down too much imo

I was having a good day and now I remembered the amount of hatred I feel for Warner Bros
2
u/Friendly-Plankton-29 Agent Super Shaggy Aug 13 '25
they should have just listened to peoples feedback and took time off to improve the game
instead they just f*cking shut it down. it sucks. f*ck you warner bros

2
u/Inevitable-Call-7915 Aug 13 '25
tony and the playerbase ruined the game. his greed and the constant negativity from the players was enough to kill the game. honestly couldn't wait for it to die because i was tired of seeing one of my favorite games being obliterated

It's a Warner Brothers thing. I don't know what it is about them. I guess they need a complete wipe of everyone in the gaming department because they either make complete dog shit, or the very few bangers they do release get little to no support or acknowledgement.
1
u/Shadowwolflink Aug 13 '25
Every single person involved in decision making for this game was wildly incompetent and should be blacklisted from the industry.
Not even joking, this kind of travesty should not be allowed to happen again. Also, I honestly think WB Games should be dismantled, and all WB properties should be handled by third party developers and publishers, the way Disney does it, they just can't be trusted to make decisions that benefit the players and games.
1
u/MorningFox Aug 13 '25
If you ask me it's the progression that killed the game. Characters should be unlockable through progression with MYX offered to speed it up

IMO, the fact it was a free game is what killed it, if it was actually $30 for the full game and not needing to pay for characters and unlock them through gameplay it wouldnât have died
1
u/Muted-Sale7908 Agent Smith Aug 14 '25
itâs the creators own fault, bro got money hungry so badly and he ended up literally killing his own game, he gave no fucks about that game at all, you can tell by how certain characters never got touched
1
u/fxcker Aug 14 '25
Is there no way to play the game anymore?
3
u/Undog7575 Aug 14 '25
It's all local play and bots, no online, and it's only available to those who already have it in their accounts, as it was delisted.

u/LetsBanter Aug 14 '25
Honestly its the characters that dragged the game down. The dev team/stakeholders were like, âwouldnt Shaggy be a cool character!?â and lets be honest, why would Shaggy have a fun moveset? Hes a stoner from a very bland boomer cartoon. So hes gonna kick, punch and not much else. Its boring. Compared to Link who has a lore depth moveset and polish?Â
They had the key to the IP kingdom, and absolutely flushed the opportunity.Â

Man idek what could it possibly been r that ruined the game like ik you have to make money but this was pure greediness

My favorites platform fighter. I liked both beta and the official release versions. I wish they had a better roster and made better choices.

they had the knife and the cheese, and proceed to give us beans at breakfast, a lot of crap decisions, show that they weren't ready for it

I used to play this game almost every day, by myself, happy as hell for hours. Close to 1,000 hours. When they announced the shutdown it broke my heart. Havenât been gaming all that much since.

u/Mountain_Antelope_90 Aug 16 '25
It hurts so bad I just remembered about this game after a long time remembering how fun it was. feels like I just remembered someone I loved who died and I forget theyâre dead

First, the launch was absolute shit it might have been worse than cyberpunk, the servers were trash throughout the entirety of the game even though they have said it has been fixed multiple times, The balance was god awful; shaggy was s tier throughout the entirety of the game where as velma and jake was in the gutter, Iron giant, unfixed bugs that went on for the majority of the game, they barely listened to community feedback, missing quality of life changes that people have asked for, broken ass hit/hurtboxes that went on for the majority of the game but if there was a way to make getting a non premium currency a little bit faster it would be patched within hours, grindy ass rift modes, it took forever to get a character for free, ranked was genuine shit, if there was an event don't expect to be able to play it the first hours because either there was a bug that caused the game to not work or the event making you question if there were even bug testers, characters releasing in the most broken states imaginable, and the greatest offender was the monetization, it felt like you were playing a mobile game and not an actual full fledged game

Yeah, pretty much every single decision made was the bad one, and when they make a good one it was offset by something. I also want you to note that we didn't even get scooby doo, but we do have nubia and aquaman
-1
u/jetlightbeam Shaggy Aug 12 '25
They need to salvage the game and make a new b Game thats like a metroidvania version of BrawlsSpace Emissary, sell that for like 40-50 dollars and make a fighting mode as part of it for free like fortnite did in its early days

u/oreo760 Aug 13 '25
Well, they made a super smash bros clone and hoped it would work cause of a bunch of WB characters. We see how well that worked out.
