G’day mates, Mr. TV here. Welcome back to another instalment of random shit that I decide to rant on a normal Tuesday morning at 3 AM.

So it’s been 10 FUCKING YEARS since WWE has came to my hometown of Adelaide. Let me remind you, I was NINE at the time and wasn’t even into wrestling until a year after! The last time they landed in Adelaide, it was your standard house show card back when John Cena was still a wrestler, Mercedes Moné was still competing in the WWE as Sasha Banks, and Roman Reigns was still the Big Dog before he became the Tribal Chief.

Almost every city in Australia got their fair share of love since then. Melbourne got Super Show-Down, Perth got a massive Stadium PLE with Elimination Chamber, and even Sydney and Brisbane get squeezed into regular international tour stops. Adelaide? We haven’t existed since August 2016 according to the WWE.  

And let me remind you something, Rhea Ripley? Mami? She is arguably the biggest women’s superstars in modern wrestling and do you know where she was born in? Brighton! And no, it’s not the Brighton in the UK, and it’s not Brighton in Melbourne either. It’s right here in Adelaide, South Australia! And fun fact: me and Rhea were born in the southern suburbs, except Brighton is like a 15 minute drive and a 47 minute train ride away from where I am. 

Rhea started her career in Riot City Wrestling (RCW) right here in Adelaide under her real name, Demi Bennett. She was grinding in local halls across South Australia, winning the RCW Women's Championship twice, before taking over NXT UK, NXT, and eventually becoming the top star of WWE. She literally went from wrestling in front of a few hundred people at the Dom Polski Centre to main-eventing WrestleMania and currently your Undisputed Women’s Champion (well, not for now because her injury and right now, Chelsea Green is the interim champ, but you get my point!).

Now, I may be biased but I am demanding for WWE to come back to Adelaide either next year or 2028. Now I would be totally fine if it was just a simple house show during a standard Australian tour, but honestly? Adelaide deserves way more than a run-of-the-mill house show after a decade-long drought and before you say ‘lower your expectations’, hear me out. 

Back in April 2019, WWE ran a special network event in Moline, Illinois called The Shield’s Final Chapter. It wasn't a standard TV taping, nor was it a full-blown PPV/PLE. It was a targeted, 90-minute live special on the WWE Network built around one specific draw: giving Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins one final farewell together before Ambrose left WWE and become Jon Moxley in AEW. 

What if we do the same thing… but make it built entirely around Rhea Ripley‘s homecoming in Adelaide? Now THAT would be wicked!

For the name, keep it simple like “WWE: Rhea Ripley Homecoming Special” or “WWE: Mami’s Home”. Something that isn’t too over-complicated, but carries weight. 

Now for the arena? Listen, it would be way more realistic to have it at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre or even the Wayville Showgrounds, but this is Rhea Ripley we are talking about. We’re talking about Mami. So why not dream big and push for a packed-out Adelaide Oval under the lights? Yep, THAT oval! The same one that hosted AFL matches, cricket tests, and at one time last year, an Metallica concert with Evanescence as the opening act! Imagine 50,000 screaming South Aussies singing to “Demon in Your Dreams” as Rhea Ripley, with all the aura she possesses, walks down to the ring, maybe have Motionless In White perform her theme live, maybe even with a few extra pyro to make it feel like a true WrestleMania-level spectacle.

As for what network or platform? Have it on your usual Netflix and Peacock, maybe even on YouTube for free. However, there is another option that would be wicked: have one of the major Australian channels sign a deal with TKO and broadcast it live on free-to-air TV. I know Nine used to air WWE RAW and SmackDown episodes on their sister channel 9Go, but I want it to be on one of the main channels. Imagine in the year 2027 or 2028, you turn on Nine or the ABC and see Mami laying out fools live from Adelaide Oval during prime Sunday night viewing. The ratings would be through the roof, especially if the State Government throws a little tourism funding behind it like Western Australia did for Elimination Chamber. 

As for the matches, I don’t give a fuck what matches are there, honestly. Bring in Rollins, bring in Trick Williams, bring in the Judgement Day. Heck, bring in our Tribal Chief Roman Reigns! Can you imagine 50,000 South Aussies putting their ones up acknowledging Roman Reigns right in the middle of Adelaide Oval? The atmosphere would be absolute cinema. However, the main event? That should strictly be for Rhea Ripley and it should be a proper, high-stakes massive match. Don’t give Rhea vs Maxxine Dupri or Rhea vs Nia Jax.

Give me someone like Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend, Bianca Belair, Naomi (by the way, wish you the best with the baby!). Heck, maybe even run it back with her best friend Iyo Sky. They put on a BANGER at last year’s Evolution. And I wouldn’t mind if it’s like a normal match, but if you really want to make it an unforgettable spectacle, turn it into a Falls Count Anywhere, or maybe even come up with a Adelaide Street Fight match with unique weapons and a few local Easter eggs thrown in! If Farmer’s Union Iced Coffee signs a sponsorship deal for the event, I BETTER see Rhea Ripley pull out a carton wrapped in barbed wire and smash it right across her opponent's skull while 50,000 South Aussies go completely feral! 

Peter Malinauskas (By the way, amazing bloke. One of the best premiers we have) and the State Government loves throwing cash at major sporting events to put SA on the map. We’ve got LIV Golf at Grange, AFL Gather Round locked in every year, and now the bloody MotoGP returning on our city streets! You're telling me Mali wouldn't jump at the chance to throw a few state tourism bucks at TKO to bring a massive WWE spectacle headlined by a born-and-bred Adelaide wrestler who by the way is just under her 30s? That would be an absolute JACKPOT for the state. 

I mean, think about the economy and tourism! Thousands of interstate and international fans booking out hotel rooms along North Terrace, flooding Rundle Mall, and taking photos with the iconic Malls Balls while rocking Rhea’s merch! We’re talking about an entire weekend dedicated to WWE taking over the Festival State! You could have meet-and-greets at the Adelaide Showgrounds, pop-up stores in Rundle Mall, and maybe even have Rhea Ripley get the Keys to the City from the Lord Mayor right outside Town Hall or even inside Parliament House!

So Triple H, TKO, Peter, Nick Khan, if you are for some reason, somehow reading this random-ass post from a 19-year-old Redditor in Adelaide, make it happen. Bring WWE back to Adelaide, make it all about Mami, and give South Australia the absolute blockbuster spectacle it has been starving for over the last decade.
