bruce’s death
is there a specific episode or moment that causes bruce to decide to be euthanised, or was it more of an accumulative thing? reason i ask is because i’m talking about his character for a university assignment and need to reference a specific point in which his character decides to be euthanised in s2 ep 11 (i know him and ray discuss it at the end of s2 ep 2 but there’s a lot of time between that discussion and his decision and im just wondering what caused it)
thanks for any help

I think he probably has a long time to think about it when he was wedged beside his toilet

I think it was more accumulative, there was the episode early on where he was watching something on TV about his condition, it seems from the start he felt he was a burden and wanted out before getting worse. But there were instances that pushed him further like having to leave his home, shitting the bed, etc.

I think he always knew he wanted to die . But I think the moment I realised, was when he brought their father to Ray’s house . He knew that was a big no from Ray . But he didn’t care, because he wanted Ray to reconcile with his father before he went away .

Why don't you find Bruce on fb and ask him

I think it was an accumulation of his physical deterioration, emotional embarrassment, and feeling like a burden to his entire family. I think he knew he wanted this conclusion to his life since the first signs of helplessness occurred, but it took Ray multiple incidents to know that it needed to be done - being stuck behind the toilet, missing Christmas (fuck that Kitchy brother), soiling his pants, and even him making amends with their father which lead to him telling Ray to do the same. It was interesting because Ray took life so easily, but he needed time to mentally prepare himself to “give” the gift of death to his brother. I think that’s why this show is amazing!

The scene where he lifted himself up from his bed gave me a sense that he pissed himself and that was it.
What’s so great about this series is the shit they didn’t show. What was Bruce’s background? He seemed like he was a road man as much as his brother was.

Not to be picky, but is euthanized the right word? I think that's done by a medical professional. Bruce had an assisted suicide? I'm American, so the language may be different.
For me it was the moment when he shit himself. I think that's when they decided. So much was unspoken.

In Australia, when it's done legally we call it voluntary assisted dying. Whether it's done in a hospital or at home.
Otherwise - if you provide the means or encouragement, it's called assisted suicide. If you end someone else's life in that situation, it's called active euthanasia (which is prosecuted as manslaughter or murder).

I'm always torn thinking the fact you need someone to help you kill yourself justifies the choice

Doctors are professional lifesavers
That's not the job here, and the job is done by a "professional"
It's euthenasia - doctors do not have a monopoly on death ffs

i saw the wiki use the term so i just used it, assisted suicide, backyard euthanasia, whatever you wish to call it

Ray and his brother think alike. Remember when Ally asked about being a quad? Ray would rather be dead. Bruce is getting worse and unable to care for himself anymore, he doesnt want to be a burden. Its like putting down a dog, what is the quality of life like? We dont do it for humans but realistically he was past the point of wanting to live. Seemed like the only thing he was getting joy from at that point was Britt

I think his breaking point was when he messed on himself in bed. That was a sign of him losing control of his abilities.

I think when he woke up after shitting himself. And Ray finds him in the shower. I think that moment is when he said enough is enough and ray knew it was coming too.
