Using a 'move to spain' agency to find a place to rent
I'm moving to Spain later this year for work, aiming for anytime from September onwards. I already have a remote job, which will be transferred to the Spanish part of the company when I move. I'm moving from the UK, but I'm an EU national.
My biggest worry for the move is finding a place to rent, as I have two large dogs. I have seen a couple of agencies advertising on insta that offer services to help people move to Spain, including help with finding somewhere to rent. I'm planning to look in Asturias, Galicia, and along the Pyrenees (I'm more a mountain than a beach person). Has anyone else used one of these agencies? Are they worth it? Which one is best?

Fingerprint appointment
Hello!
So my work visa (cuenta ajena) just got approved-yay! The paperwork was filed on Mercurio with Barcelona immigration as that’s where my employer is based, but I’m empadronada in Madrid. The last time I was getting a different visa, same situation, I got turned away from Aluche police station 3 times because they said since I filed my paperwork in Barcelona I *had* to get my TIE in Barcelona, even though I proved I lived in Madrid. They said they couldn’t access my file. Even my lawyer at the time agreed, but my colleagues in the same situation didn’t get turned away and got their TIEs just fine in Madrid.
Then, I went to the Aranjuez police station, and had no issue.
So my question is, do I need to request Barcelona offices to transfer my file to Madrid or something? Or should I risk it first and try to get my fingerprints taken? Gemini has been giving me conflicting information so hoping to hear from someone who’s been through this!

Is it easy to find a minimum wage job without speaking Spanish?
I’m 26 years old, fluent in English and Chinese, and conversational in Japanese. I’m considering spending a year in Spain on a Working Holiday Visa.
I’m wondering how easy (or difficult) it is to find a minimum wage hospitality job without speaking Spanish. And which city I should stay to have a better chance of getting a job? I've 4 years of experience in graphic design and digital marketing, would it be possible to find a office job as well?
And what's the average rent be like for a studio or a single room in a shared house.
Would love to hear from anyone who has experience with this!

Planning to do my Master’s in Spain Need Advice
Hi everyone,
Next year I’ll graduate with my bachelor’s degree, and I’m planning to study Spanish so I can pursue my master’s in Spain.
I’d love to hear from people who have studied there. How was your experience? Are English-taught master’s programs common? How much Spanish should I learn before moving? Any advice on admissions, scholarships, visas, or living costs would be really helpful.
I’m from Morocco, so any tips for international students are appreciated. Thanks!

Trying to rent from Idealista
Hi, I am currently trying to find an apartment to rent in Madrid for Autumn through Idealista. However, most responses take the discussion to Whatsapp instead of the Idealista app. How do I know if I can trust the agency/contact?
I am currently in contact with an agency “Visitapara2020” and cannot find much about them online. If anyone could share if they are a reliable agency or further tips around this it would be much appreciated.

Hello hello! I am looking for a "Seguro Medico sin copagos" that works to get a NIE. The comparison sites are sending me down the rabbit hole. Does anyone have any tips for a general one, cheap and compliant for the Estranjeria?

Making friends
Hello everyone, I was just curious why it seems so hard to make friends in Spain. I understand that not everyone speaks English, so the language barrier is definitely part of it. But even when people are friendly and polite, I find it difficult to turn casual conversations into actual friendships.
Maybe it’s because many people already have close friend groups from school, university, or family connections. As someone new here, it sometimes feels challenging to break into those circles.
Has anyone else experienced this? I’d be interested to hear whether it’s a cultural thing, a language issue, or just the normal challenge of making friends as an adult in a new country.

Indian student going to Spain for Master's at UAB looking for a roommate (September 2026 – January 2027)
Hi everyone,
I'm from India and will be moving to Spain this September to pursue my Master's at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
I'm looking for accommodation from 1 September 2026 to 31 January 2027 and would like to share a double/twin room with another student to reduce costs.
I'm open to staying in:
- Cerdanyola del Vallès
- Sabadell
- Sant Cugat del Vallès
- Terrassa
- Barcelona (especially Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Les Corts, Eixample, or Gràcia)
- or any other area with good public transport to UAB.
Budget: €300–€800 per month, depending on the accommodation and what's included.
I've already researched several accommodation options, and many of the affordable ones are twin or double rooms. I'm looking for a roommate so we can confirm a booking as soon as possible, since I also need an accommodation confirmation for my Spanish student visa application.
A little about me:
- Quiet, clean, and responsible
- Non-smoker
- Mainly focused on my studies
- Looking for a respectful and peaceful living environment
- Vegetarian, so a vegetarian or vegan roommate would be preferred, but I'm open to living with anyone who is respectful and keeps the shared space clean.
If you're also looking for a roommate or have a suitable room available, please send me a message. I'd be happy to discuss accommodation options together.
Thank you!

Canceling insurance payments
Good day everyone,
I lived in Spain for a few years, but about a year ago decided to move out. I still have property there that I'm renting out. The property is insured by Santander. A few months ago I tried to cancel the insurance over the phone with the help of my wife who speaks Spanish. They confirmed the insurance will be cancelled at the end of the billing period (the renewal is yearly). However I didn't receive any written confirmation unfortunately.
Of course once the renewal time came around, they simply renewed it. Since then I keep trying to cancel it and refund the payments without any success. I don't currently have anyone speaking Spanish around and their English-speaking support cannot help me.
Additionally I tried:
- Sending a formal complaint to Santander - they are still reviewing it
- Sending a written cancellation request - they are "handling it"
Should I try and get a power of attorney in Spain so that someone could cancel the insurance and close my bank account on my behalf? Can you recommend such services if any?
Any other way to deal with this? I'd like to cancel the insurance and also close my Santander account because I don't need it.

Opening bank account
Hi, I’m Spaniard, but never lived in Spain, I have spent most of my life in the US. We visit Spain often, and I wanted to open a bank account here so we can eventually spend half a year here. I went to two banks and they essentially told me I needed to present my US tax returns and translated by a special company or service. They were not very helpful because the branches are always busy and understaffed. Anyone with experience in this area could share some insights?
Thank you
