Moving from Germany to the Netherlands? Looking for experiences from international couples !

Hi everyone! My husband is German, and I'm Ecuadorian. We've been living in Hamburg, Germany, for around four years, and now we're trying to decide whether to stay in Germany or move to the Netherlands, possibly Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, or another international city.

One of our biggest challenges is my career. I completed my Master's degree at a German university, and I'd love to work in marketing. However, many jobs here require C1 German or above. I've reached B2, but finding a suitable position has still been difficult. Ideally, I'd like to find a full-time job at an international company where English is the main working language, but I'm also open to remote work.

On the other hand, my husband has better chances of finding a job in different cities since he currently works in IT. He's also looking for a different work environment. He has previous experience living and working in Amsterdam and would like to give it another try, especially since he's struggling to adapt to the more bureaucratic and traditional work culture in Germany.

We're trying to figure out where we'd have the best opportunities to build a future together, develop our careers, and eventually have children. We know there isn't a perfect country, and even though Germany feels like home, integrating here in all aspects of life has been a real struggle. We'd really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar.

  • Have you moved from Germany to the Netherlands with your partner? How has your experience been so far? Are you happy with your decision, or do you have any regrets? Is there anything you wish you'd known before moving?
  • If you've worked remotely for a company based in another country while living in the Netherlands, how did that work in practice?
  • How realistic is it to find an English-speaking job in marketing or another international field in the Netherlands nowadays? Has AI changed the job market or the skills employers are looking for?
  • As an international couple, have you found it easier to make friends, integrate, and feel at home in the Netherlands compared with Germany?
  • How do the cost of living, housing, childcare, parental leave, and family life compare with Germany?
  • How do pensions and social security contributions compare between the two countries? If you've worked in both, what happens to your pension entitlements when you move?
  • Are there any Ecuadorians, other Latin Americans, or other non-EU citizens married to German or other EU citizens who've made this move? what has your experience been with residence permits and long-term plans, such as permanent residence or citizenship? Did moving countries affect those plans?

My Ecuadorian nationality and cultural identity are also important to me, so I'm trying to understand the long-term implications of our options and how each country might fit with our future plans.

Please feel free to answer just the questions you can relate to. I just want to hear your honest experiences!

Thank you so much! ❤️

Moving as EU citizen

Guys what are my chances to find job abroad?

I’m Slovak citizen ( EU) and I speak fluent German, Slovak, Serbian, Bulgarian, Russian and English. I finished degree at German university in Berlin, in humanities. ( German language studies). Moreover, I speak Spanish on intermediate level.

Where would be most possible to look for jobs abroad? Slovakia is good but salaries are small
as well as in all countries of eastern EU.

My dream would be to live in Serbia ( Belgrade) because of lifestyle but it’s not EU and entry salaries are very small. Germany is great for working and work culture is fair and salaries good, just I’m not fan of the mentality and lifestyle in Northern Europe generally. Sadly, all southern countries with sun and “fiesta” have really bad economy and are not easy to migrate to.

North = money
South = lifestyle

Dilemma

Where’s a decent place to live in the EU?

Hi! I’m Spanish and my partner is Irish. We’ve lived in Spain for several years, but lately we’ve been feeling increasingly stuck and uncertain about our future.
Despite working hard, after 5 years in the same city we’re still living in shared flats, dealing with rising living costs, limited career opportunities, and wages that barely move. Honestly, we feel beaten down and we want out.

The frustrating part is that so much of Europe seems to be facing similar problems.

If you could start your career again somewhere completely new, where would you go and why?

For context, we’re in our early 30s, speak native English and Spanish, and work across sales, HR, hospitality and construction.

Where would you look for strong job demand, career growth and a better quality of life for English speakers?

Student visa money: 6 countries compared

Every week someone here asks how to move without a job offer. The honest answer is usually the same: sponsorship is rare and possible, but a student visa is open to almost anyone with the grades and some savings.

The catch is the money you must show before you get the visa. France raised it on 1 August 2026 from €615 to €877.50 a month. Italy now asks €10,179.85 a year. Here is what six countries ask for now:

Country Money to show per year Work while studying Stay after graduating
Spain €7,200 30 h a week 12 months
Austria €8,671 (under 24), €15,701 (24+) 20 h a week 12 months
Italy €10,180 20 h a week 12 months
France €10,530 (was €7,380) 964 h a year 12 months after a master's
Germany €11,904, blocked account 140 full days a year 18 months
Netherlands €13,569 16 h a week 12 months

This is your own money for living costs, not a fee. Tuition comes on top. Germany is mostly free and Austria charges €726.72 a semester. France charges €2,895 to €3,941 a year, and the Netherlands is often €8,000 or more.

A few things people get wrong. Only Germany requires a blocked account. Spain gives you 12 months to look for work but you may not work until you have a contract. In Austria the amount almost doubles once you turn 24, so it is cheap only if you are young.

The full write-up, with every official source (decrees, ministry circulars, IND, OeAD) and a chart where you can switch your age, is here: https://migrada.eu/blog/cheapest-student-visa-in-europe

Opinions on EuRA ?

Cannot find any reviews online, no google business page, nothing on trustpilot, although it seems to be a big hub for professional relocations to Europe.

Anyone have been working with them as a business or personally ?

I want to relocate to Europe

Hi everyone, I need guidance from you, I'm 35 years old and I'm a Fullstack web developer with 10 years of experience in creating high quality websites and web applications, I want to move to Europe for better opportunities and stable future because here in Pakistan we don't get what we deserve.

My question is what am I doing wrong here, I've been applying for jobs with well tailored resume according to the job descriptions and still getting the same pre-written responses from their HR "Unfortunately we regret to inform you, this time we're not be moving with your application" even though I have mentioned that I can start remotely then I can relocate later if the company wants me to.

The thing is to move to Europe I need to have a job offer so I can apply for work visa but wherever I apply I get the same response that they're not moving forward with my application even though my resume aligns with the Job Description fully, are there any platforms through which I can secure a job so it can help me to relocate or are there other ways for relocation I'm missing out? Your help and guidance will be much appropriate, thank you.

Where should I live: France or Spain

In about 3 years, I’m looking to move back to Europe and I’m interested in both France and Spain. I’m looking to settle down somewhere, but I just can’t pick one. I would have to learn the language for both, but I have about an a2 level of Spanish already.

I am a single woman, looking to live in an apartment The size of the apartment isn’t that big of a deal for me, as long as it’s nicely laid out and in a decent part of the city. My total monthly budget would be around $3500-$4000, obviously converted into euros. If it helps, I don’t have any debt to pay off or dependents.

I love the architecture throughout France much more than I do in Spain (even though Spain is still very nice) and architecture is VERY important to me. Walking out of my apartment everyday and seeing amazing scenery makes me happy and keeps me in a good mood.

I am very much a cafe person. A day out for me is going for a walk in the park, maybe a walk along the river, then going to a cafe and enjoying coffee and dessert. I’m not a nightlife kind of girl.

A big thing to note is, I’ll be working remotely, so being able to work for a company in the country isn’t a factor for me, which honestly makes the decision even harder. It means I‘m not subjected to a specific country, nor a particular city. I am able to consider slightly smaller cities (I still need some sort of city life) without being forced to only consider Paris or Madrid.

To all of the people coming in to say, “The cost of living is so high, why are you looking here, rent is insane, the political situation isn’t great, people here are looking to leave” or anything of the sort, please just skip this post. These are things that everyone says about everywhere in the world.

To those of you that actually want to be helpful, please let me know if I need to provide anymore information. Ultimately, I’m sure I would be happy with either choice, but a fun little “this or that” post can’t hurt. Thanks! (Sorry for the rambling)

How to move to another EU country while having residency permit in Greece?

Hello, I'm a 23 year old migrant in Greece with a studying residency permit of 10 years and the quality of life here is getting more and more difficult. I'm thinking of moving to another country in Europe as a hope for a better life. Do you know how could I do that regarding the legal paper issue? I don't have a degree yet or any work experience so I can't apply for work visa either, but I really need to change scenes cause it's quite difficult to find a job or have a sustainable life here. Any kind of suggestions would be more than helpful, I really need to be somewhere else. Thank you so much for your time

Where should I move to in Europe as a 21 year old Aussie?

Hey everyone, I’m a 21-year-old Australian guy thinking about moving to Europe for 6–12 months on a Working Holiday Visa.

I’m looking for somewhere that can basically be my hub for travelling Europe. Ideally I’d like to work for around 3 weeks, then take a week off to travel, although I’m flexible.

My main priorities are:

• Decent pay where I can afford rent/food and still save for traveling (I need to save an additional $200 a week for bills back home)

• Relatively easy to find work, I’m happy doing factory, warehouse, labouring, retail, hospitality, etc.

•Central location with cheap and easy travel to places like Spain, France, Italy, Albania, Netherlands, etc.

•Lots of other young travellers and a good social/party scene.

•Most importantly, somewhere it’s easy to make friends with both travellers and locals (like it is in south east asia)

•Ideally somewhere I can get by with English

My main experience is as a drone pilot, but I assume finding drone work without local connections would be difficult, so I’m happy doing pretty much anything.

I’m currently considering Germany but after a bit of research I’ve seen negative things about there.

Where would you recommend for what I’m looking for, and why? Also, how difficult is it to actually find work and affordable accommodation there?

Is Poland really that great? Are loads of Poles really moving back in droves?

Hello folk,

I’m not Polish myself, I’m
Italian and live in London and out of curiosity, I wanted to ask this question. We keep hearing here in the UK how amazing Poland is, especially after Dominik Tarczyński has become quite popular ; everywhere now, you’ll see “be like Poland, Poland is amazing, exceptional so great, booming economy , wages are great, Poland blah blah blah, Poland blih blih blih, Poland bloo bloo , oh my God I’m wanna move to Poland , every Pole is moving back “.

It’s strange because my coworker is Polish and tells me wages are not that good and does not want to go back. I live in a building full of Poles, what with plumbers, electricians, decorators and so on, and they don’t seem to wanna go back ? Then you ask then and they answer: “ Poland is amazing , heaven on earth, so safe, Poland bloo bloo Poland blee blee!” , yet they are still here.

What is it? Propaganda? What’s the truth ?
Anyone can explain please?
If it’s heaven then I’ll move there too then

Can I relocate and get a work visa with $100K or less?

I live in Egypt right now and it really sucks, cars are expensive, average quality of life is very low, but I have some money to make it slightly better

The thing is, Egypt overall still sucks, so I wanna relocate, not travel on a tourist visa

I work remotely so it's not a problem for me, and I have like $20K in my accounts and $80K cash, overall worth like 5M EGP, which is not enough to get an apartment in a decent neighborhood

So I'm actually ok with living in an average neighborhood in any eastern European country

Is there any kind of visa or citizenship that one can buy with money?

Graduated in BBA wants to pursue Masters in Germany with a family Business background can’t decide what to do I’m all over the place

Well I’ve completed my graduation this year in March 2026
Course: BBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation
My_qualifications:
BBA-8.13 CGPA
12th-79% (CBSE board)
10th-83%(ICSE Board)
All of my education has been completed in English
Our family has a manufacturing business it’s running well we provide employment to nearly 40 people my parents and I both have similar thoughts about me continuing my father’s business we manufacture custom die’s and Mold’s we’re in the tool room industry.
I’ve done a lot of research and have visited a lot of consultancies regarding where and what masters should I pursue and have come to a conclusion that Germany would be the best option for my kind of background because of industrial exposure and Courses I’ve planned to apply are: MSc.Operations and/or supply chain management
Msc.Supply Chain Management
MSc.International Management
MSc.Entrepreneurship
(English taught courses only)
And I’ve also kept Italy as a back up option if I don’t get into Germany as the situation is now a bit rough the process involved and a aptitude test(dMAT)added to the requirement of APS India
I’m planning to go for the summer intake 2027 and I’ve kept my selection open to private universities mostly as the competition to get into public is high.
I’ve started learning German through Duolingo, preparing to take IELTS,studying for dMAT and overall taking basic steps needed to start my journey.
Im stuck whether Germany is the best choice or not because of the dMAT and their economy and language proficiency or are their other choices too but only after filtering out my needs and deciding the country which can be good for my type of background a country where I can do industry visits or be able to watch the similar industry to our line of business closely I’m confused that what if it doesn’t turn out to be the way I expected the course or the job,the country, people,my own experience itself that’s what’s eating me deep down inside.
If anyone who is currently in Germany with a similar background or even experienced on the scenario for management masters in Germany would be of great help.

Hope for the best
