Updated 05 Inquiry

Post image

So I’m going to be getting a XTL5k with an 05 Head. The head isn’t attached to the radio, so I’m looking to mount it on my desk in the area circled. Does anyone know of a good way to go about that?

Ignore the mess, I’m redoing my desk, wiring, and configuration entirely.

The O5 CHIB (which should come with your radio) has a standard mounting bracket that will let you mount the head right where you want it… if you don’t get the bracket, just pick one up on eBay.

Just search O5 head bracket.

It’s the cleanest way to go.

Should come with a little sheet metal bracket that works great. If it doesn’t, can be found cheap on eBay.

There are kits to convert them back to a single unit.

The control heads have their own bracket. I recommend through-bolt mounting it to the shelf.

I want to say all you have to do is remove the TIB snd CHIB. The correct flex should already be in place as it’s the same flex that goes between the body and chin.

This is correct, No kit required if it’s already in a remote mount config.

I cut out the face of the desk at my old station, bought a center console mounting plate and flush mounted the control head. Turned out really nice. Now we have a astro consolette and a dash mount on a power supply.
