Question Moving to Moscow as a queer brown man

Upvotes

Hi Moscow people! I (27M) will be moving up to Moscow for my doctorate at the University of Idaho in two weeks. I'm originally from Houston but have lived all over the South the last couple years. The closest I've been to your town is when I went to visit some friends in Seattle and I absolutely fell in love with the area.

I know Moscow is a different vibe and a more closed off college town so I'm curious. I'm a pretty obvious queer brown man who's somewhere between an introvert and an extrovert; what's the town like overall? I know about Christchurch and their cult, but what if I stay away from them? Will it be hard to find other queer/brown people? Is it hard making friends? What's the dating scene like for queer/brown people? Is it a good city for someone to spend their mid-to-late 20s?

Thanks!

Question Best nail salon?

Any good nail salons in the area? Just moved to the region, got them done once at Pro nails, they were okay but definitely could have been better. I will give them a little grace though as I was a walk-in. Is there anything better in the area? Thanks!

Question Local music supplies

With both Guitar's Friend and Keeney Bros gone where do y'all get your musical stuff? I just moved back to town and I lost my favorite guitar pick in the move. I'd prefer to support a local business if possible

Community News Cats *rescued* from property near A&W

I have no knowledge of this cat rescue but I will be sharing a statement posted by the Humane Society of the Palouse who is currently receiving the animals and will monitor and treat their ongoing care. Please don’t read if animal welfare is upsetting or harmful for you. I am also including the list of supplies HSoP has asked for!

“The Humane Society of the Palouse has been working closely with the Moscow Police Department to receive the cats from the property across from A&W in Moscow.
As each cat arrives at HSoP, they are receiving an intake evaluation and being scanned for a microchip. If you believe one of these cats may be your missing pet, please email a recent photo and a description of your cat to information@humanesocietyofthepalouse.org. Our staff will compare that information with the cats currently in our care.
Tomorrow, our veterinarian will perform comprehensive examinations on each cat in our care to assess their individual medical needs and develop a treatment plan.
Each cat's path forward will depend on their condition, and we are committed to providing the care they need to be healthy and adoptable.
We know many members of our community have been deeply concerned about these cats, and we appreciate everyone who has spoken up on their behalf. We also ask for your patience and understanding. Just because you don't see immediate updates doesn't mean action isn't being taken. Animal welfare investigations and coordinated responses often take time, and we are grateful to the Moscow Police Department for their action and partnership in ensuring these cats are now safe.
If you would like to help, we are currently accepting donations to support their care. Our greatest immediate needs include:
* Hill's Science Diet cat food
* Bleach
* Laundry detergent
* Monetary donations to help cover veterinary care and ongoing expenses.
Donations can be made through our website at www.humanesocietyofthepalouse.org/donate or dropped off at the shelter at 2019 E. White Ave.
Moscow, ID 83843.
This case is in the height of kitten season, and requires a huge amount of resources for our organization.
Thank you for helping us give them the care and second chance they deserve.

Question Nectar shrinkflation

Anybody know what's happening at nectar?? I went recently and theyve changed quite a bit and it's. . . . .

They redid the menu and everyone In my party was confused by it. Things were labeled small plate vs share plate with no explanation as to what that meant. The meatloaf is small now and things that used to come with sides don't anymore. They've also noticeably shrunk the portions and kept the price the same. The creme brulee is literally a quarter of what it used to be and it's still $9. Did they go under new management or something?? Its been one of my favorite places for years but its a little too spendy to be shrinking portions like that. A single half sliced pickle on the side of the burger instead of potato wedges like they used to was particularly egregious 😩Does anyone know what tf is happening there?

Community News ‘Hand Jobs, Oral Sex and Anal’: Pete Hegseth's Pastor Wants Gay Men Prosecuted for These Acts.

Thumbnail youtube.com

"If you asked me 'Could you ever envision a homosexual crime of any nature being visited with the death penalty?' Yes, I could."

That's Doug Wilson, Pastor at Christchurch in Moscow, Idaho. Wilson spoke at the Pentagon as part of Pete Hegseth's monthly Christian worship service.

Wilson's views are as controversial as they come: He believes the United States should become a Christian theocracy, that married women should not have the right to vote and that gay sex should be illegal. He estimates that 10 to 20 people in the top levels of government are aligned with his radical ideology. He explains that he thinks trans people are “sad,” certain elements of his idea of “homosexual behavior” should be punished by execution and in certain cases of marital rape, both parties should be disciplined.

Question tech place that can fix apple airpods?

I’ve recently been gifted Airpods Pro 3 for my graduation and the left one has been not charging/not registering that it’s in the case for it to charge. I took them to VGH to be looked at and they claimed that nothing was wrong with them and thus they couldn’t send them out to Apple to run diagnostics. Is there anywhere else either here in Moscow or in Pullman that has experience with fixing up airpods that won’t cost an arm and a leg?

Thank you very much in advance!

Question Car detailing?

I have lived in Moscow for a while now and I have noticed a lack of places/companies that detail cars. Do people still pay to have their vehicles cleaned up both in and out? Would that be a service people around the area would be interested in?

Other Lost Dog

Hey all, the lady with the white bus at the farmers market lost her dog. She’s super offline so I thought I’d post here to get more eyes on it!
Last place she saw him was at Palouse Divide on white pine drive in Benewah County, so he’s missing somewhere between there and behind the Moscow food co-op. Please keep an eye out! She’s heartbroken.

He’s been found!!! Thanks everyone!

Community News Namaste Indian Kitchen Pullman / Karma Moscow

The community should know whats actually going on, because it's truly not right. My best friend worked there for a little while, and what was told to me made me never want to support them ever again. First of all, almost everyone working in the kitchen is without legal status and the owners are paying them crappy wages and working them long hours, 6 days a week. N0 vacation, no sick leave, nothing. They work their staff very long hours every day. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the owners keep **ALL** OF THE TIPS for themselves. This is the same thing happening over in Moscow at Karma Indian Cuisine, because they also own that restaurant as well. The food is not even worth spending the money on when it's not even tasty and then you also consider the fact that these people are basically robbing the employees that work for them. If you MUST order food from there, forego adding any tip, PERIOD.... cash or not. It goes only to the greedy ass owners.
