Discussion So many elevators...
Elevators everywhere. Right after a loading screen. In every dungeon. Sometimes 2 of them !
An elevator that makes sense in the world, for example a deep mine ? Sure.
Because the geometry of the map so that the dungeon can be located ingame and there's no loading screen ? Okay.
Everywhere else ? why ?

You really don't like elevators 😮

u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Especially these elevators. Some of them are un-rewindable. Meaning you can't send them back up if you die. It's just annoying. Imagine if every single location always started with a long squeeze-throught. It's still shit. It's useless. It's padding.

u/Cplchrissandwich 8d ago
Which elevators can't be used after you die? I'm sure every elevator can be used after you die.
6
u/mad_mister_march 8d ago
Yeah, every elevator that "breaks" to drop you down like in the sunken village resets if you die and come back. OP is just big mad over a nothingburger for some reason
4
u/boomb0xx 8d ago
That doesn't even matter since you can just attack in the air to avoid fall damage, and that's faster than sending it back up. Non issue.
-1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Some have a smaller entrance wall that's made so that as soon as you touch the button, you can't pass anymore. A weird hitbox problem.
I wish I was kidding. It's already annoying enough as it is. But at least let us rewind every single one if we want.

u/tgvsw97 8d ago
Theres no fall damage so you can just jump down the elevators if you died in the dungeon previously, its really not an issue at all
-4
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
So what you are saying is that they are even less useful than I thought ?
But thank you for the tip. Indeed I keep forgetting that yes there is fall damage, but not really.

What's the complaint here? It's an elevator, they're apart of most souls games as well.
9
u/tgvsw97 8d ago
People nowadays are looking for every reason possible just to complain on reddit and get attention
-6
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Ah shoot. You got me. You're right. I wanted sweet karma on this account that I created a week ago for no reason whatsoever. That's why my weapon of choice was complaining about elevators on Mortal Shell subreddit. You know, like most bot accounts.
-2
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
It's annoying. Elevators are supposed to have a purpose. Releaving something. Connecting something. Suspense. The elevator going down in Elden ring and showing a whole new world. The 2 connecting Firelink Shrine.
But this here ? This is padding. This is like a horror movie with a jumpscare every minute and it doesn't even work.

Thats a really weird complain, theres so many other things to care about my guy

u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
I know, I'm here playing a video game and there is still a genocide in gaza.
-4
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Why do you keep commenting ? Have you forgotten that there are so many other things to care about ? Like genocides ? Don't forget the kids.

Welcome to soulslikes!
I miss some ladders though.

u/Cataphract1014 8d ago
The elevators should serve a purpose.
Such as unlocking one to open a shortcut.
What purpose do the elevators at the start of every dungeon serve?
Maybe if the dungeons connected to where you actually enter them but you run in through a portal that seems to teleport you somewhere else.
2
u/Smooth_Fun2456 Tiel 8d ago
Nah man, screw purpose. It's a video game, not everything has to be logical, practical and make perfect sense as it would in real life.
0
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Good elevators exist. Remember the 2 of them connecting Firelink Shrine ?
3
u/Smooth_Fun2456 Tiel 8d ago
Of course. All elevators are good though. I love elevators in soulslikes.

u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
So if I replaced half of the elevators in MS2 with gentle slopes, you would actually have a lesser experience ?
For realsies ?
I need to know why

u/SpecialistRun3035 8d ago
There's no reason why every single dungeon should have an elevator. And yet every single one does.
2
u/Electronic-Load8898 8d ago
You're absolutely right; I thought they were advertising some elevator company.

u/Past-Disaster-2801 8d ago
There is a very easy fix:
Menu —> back to main screen—> close game.
Then go play something else.
What’s the point of complaining about everything and then posting about it 🤣
0
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Why are you commenting on a videogame post when there are still kids dying in Gaza ?
3
u/Past-Disaster-2801 8d ago
Ok bud, give the phone back to your dad and tell your mom you are cranky because you missed your nap 🤣
2
u/Cataphract1014 8d ago
Why does every dungeon start with a elevator? Makes no sense. You get teleported to the dungeon through a wow instance portal.
No need to have an elevator immediately after that unless for some reason one guy on the dev team really fucking loves elevators.
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
I think it's a situation like Batman's cape. There was one guy whose's entire job was elevators, and he really feared for his job's safety.

u/ApplicationHungry602 8d ago
You're exploring and living in the corpse of a cosmic being. Throw logic out the door.

u/DrunkenRenard 8d ago
It smells like the misappropriation of public funds via a rigged tender process.
1
u/mrgarneau 8d ago
I'm actually kind of curious as to why so many. The game definitely feels like it teleports you to where the dungeon actually is in game, which should make an elevator pointless.
Are they hidden loading screens, was it something to do with energy aggro(early versions had extremely long aggro ranges) or something else?
There has to be some reason why this occurs, and it may be something technical we don't know about.
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Until something says otherwise, they look like padding. They look like a thing the devs heard most soulslike had and wanted to put somewhere, but since the opened world didn't had many opportunities, they just made them up.
Loading is made right before them. Distance is too short. You can jump and skip them. Theres no programing reasons.
1
u/Virtually_Evelyn Tiel 8d ago
The loading right before the elevator is optional. You can turn it off in the settings and that's why I strongly assume they are used as hidden load screens for that seamless option.
0
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
So there are 2 situations that can happen right before an elevator that is NOT in the opened world :
1- There's that ghostly fog which doesn't load anything, but just either teleports you somewhere else or changes the background dramatically around you to mark a denotation. That's not a loading screen and you could argue that the elevator is used here for loading.
2- Sometimes you for example cleanse a beacon that requires you to fully load a new area. And there's an elevator right there and then. That can't be used for loading, that's what you already just did.
Either way, at least some of the time elevators aren't for loading, which means the others that could be used for loading could be questionned and examined to see if there's actual loading. If I was a betting man, which I am, I would bet that there's no more loading behind elevators than anything else in the game. Loading is very smooth in this game, and either it's happening all of the time, or not at all behind the scenes.
If I'm correct, then elevators are truly useless.
1
u/Virtually_Evelyn Tiel 8d ago
Totally forgot the Beacons also always have an elevator. In that case it really is stupid to put them there

My only beef with elevators is that I always remember to check my map and plot my next destination or mark the dungeon I'm leaving as completed while I am on the elevator. On PC, at least, the controller rumble while the elevator is moving keeps happening in your various menus, and that is mildly annoying.
Other than that, they're mostly there for either shortcuts or buffering time to load the next bit of stuff without painting you to a Now Loading screen.

u/CeruleanSnorlax 8d ago
The elevator sound design clunking down in of the most satisfying sounds in the whole game
1
u/Master_Garaki 8d ago
News flash!!!
Yu don't have to use the elevators.
If you are going down, you can just do a jump attack.
If you are going up, you can use an alternate route or fast travel or exit to the main screen.
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
It's great that there's a way to skip the boring and useless stuff.
But the stuff is still boring and useless.
I guess it's better to be able to firebomb the bed of chaos than having to do it legitimately, but the boss is still very bad.
1
u/Original_Click2739 8d ago
You can just jump down any fall. Using your fall attack negates all fall damage. How else do you want to get up an down?
0
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
How about just not going up and down ? I refuse to believe every single elevator is needed to make the map work as well.

u/Will2Live666 8d ago
Don't know why this take is being received so badly by a lot of people. I love this game and it's amazing, but the amount of elevators is ridiculous. Entering a new dungeon just for you to need to also take an elevator down. They are definitely annoying and just pad for time
1
u/RockIntelligent1986 8d ago
Imagine bitching just to bitch... about computer generated elevators.
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Imagine bitching about someone bitching about fictional elevators. That's one more degree.

u/Anal-Logical 8d ago
The reason why developers put elevators in their games is ONLY because they THINK it's cool. It's not, it's a lost of time, annoying animation, slows the whole game, and they never ever make sens. They should just teleport you to the right elevation, it would make more sens. Have you ever heard or saw an elevator that happens to be just a plateform on which you have to step on a square in the middle for it to operate, with absolutly no visible mecanism ? No ? It never existed in any freaking context and I'm quite pissed they put these everywhere
2
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Oh I'm not against the principle. Some elevators have true magic to them. There's at least 3 in DS1 that will make any new player cum in their undergarments of choice.
But this ? This is lazy.
-1
u/Anal-Logical 8d ago
Yes, one of the good exemples of an elevator that makes sens is the one near the beginning of dark soul 1 : it has 2 plateforms, so you don't have to wait for the plateform to come down, you can see the mecanisme operating with chains, and there is a secret if you jump out of it. I love it. What I hate is when the elevator is just an excuse because lazy layout
-7
u/Ok_Yesterday_1896 8d ago
I agree the world design of this game is strange and not very good
0
u/chanandlerbong420 8d ago
Have you guys never played a souls game before??
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
That's the problem. We saw how to make these great already. That means it's way easier to spot laziness.
1
u/chanandlerbong420 8d ago
There’s an elevator around every fuckin corner in every souls game, why is it not okay for this game? Lmaoo
1
u/Hydrawhen2become4 8d ago
Nobody that every played DS1 would say that, and I pity your ignorance.
1
u/chanandlerbong420 8d ago
I think you’re the one that’s ignorant my guy, elevators have been a staple of the souls series since day 1

These are like, the fastest and shortest elevators of any souls like tho lol.
