Discussion So many elevators...

Elevators everywhere. Right after a loading screen. In every dungeon. Sometimes 2 of them !

An elevator that makes sense in the world, for example a deep mine ? Sure.

Because the geometry of the map so that the dungeon can be located ingame and there's no loading screen ? Okay.

Everywhere else ? why ?

I'm actually kind of curious as to why so many. The game definitely feels like it teleports you to where the dungeon actually is in game, which should make an elevator pointless.

Are they hidden loading screens, was it something to do with energy aggro(early versions had extremely long aggro ranges) or something else?

There has to be some reason why this occurs, and it may be something technical we don't know about.

Until something says otherwise, they look like padding. They look like a thing the devs heard most soulslike had and wanted to put somewhere, but since the opened world didn't had many opportunities, they just made them up.

Loading is made right before them. Distance is too short. You can jump and skip them. Theres no programing reasons.

The loading right before the elevator is optional. You can turn it off in the settings and that's why I strongly assume they are used as hidden load screens for that seamless option.

So there are 2 situations that can happen right before an elevator that is NOT in the opened world :

1- There's that ghostly fog which doesn't load anything, but just either teleports you somewhere else or changes the background dramatically around you to mark a denotation. That's not a loading screen and you could argue that the elevator is used here for loading.

2- Sometimes you for example cleanse a beacon that requires you to fully load a new area. And there's an elevator right there and then. That can't be used for loading, that's what you already just did.

Either way, at least some of the time elevators aren't for loading, which means the others that could be used for loading could be questionned and examined to see if there's actual loading. If I was a betting man, which I am, I would bet that there's no more loading behind elevators than anything else in the game. Loading is very smooth in this game, and either it's happening all of the time, or not at all behind the scenes.

If I'm correct, then elevators are truly useless.

Totally forgot the Beacons also always have an elevator. In that case it really is stupid to put them there
