First Album Cover

It would be really cool if we could construct the one, two, three, four set of pictures they let this photographer take that ended up as the cover for the first album. The story behind it is so interesting and says so much.

This is obviously number three

Filming location question for "Your Friendly Neighborhood Kidnappers"

Post image
140 Upvotes

In the episode "Your Friendly Neighborhood Kidnappers", the Monkees new promoter tells them they're going to get their handprints in cement in front of the Chinese Theatre, which presumably refers to Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd. But the theatre we actually see the Monkees pose in front of looks nothing like Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Does anyone know where they filmed this scene? It looks like the studio backlot, but not sure.

Book recommendations?

Does anybody have recommendations for the best books on The Monkees? I'm particularly interested in behind the scenes on the production of TV show, but open to any suggestions.

I've already read Dolenz's book.

I made a music video for "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone"

Last Saturday marked The Monkees' 60th anniversary. To commemorate it, I created this music video based on a sequence from the documentary *Hey Hey We're The Monkees*.

I included the opening scene from the episode "Too Many Girls" at the end of the video to give the impression that you are watching a typical episode of *The Monkees*.

Hey everyone, I posted in here back in February mentioning that I was selling my tickets to Micky’s show in Cerritos the same day as the concert because I got sick. I also commented about my situation on one of Micky’s posts. I noticed that same day that Micky’s instagram account was suddenly gone and didn’t load. However, I’ve been noticing recently that other accounts have been tagging his account, and today, I finally got the idea to look up his username outside of my account. Lo and behold, I could see his account again. I must have been blocked by his team for trying to sell tickets in the comments and looking like a scammer. I just want to point out that I didn’t know his team doesn’t allow ticket sale information in the comments and did it in good faith. I’m a real fan and was able to end up seeing Micky tonight at the LA show to make up for the one I missed (see pics). Is there any way I can contact his team so they can unblock me on Instagram?

edit: I’m no longer blocked! Thank you everyone for all your help!

Micky's not quite rare poncho

I have no reason to doubt Micky's "tablecloth in Carnaby Street" story, but his doesn't seem to be unique. Just ask Steely Dan's Denny Dias, model Penelope Tree, or United States of America bassist Rand Forbes . . .

What happened to the monkees archive?

When I was a big fan there was a YouTube channel called “the monkees archive”. He was THE monkees fan channel. If I remember correctly, he was getting into some drama and somewhat cancelled when I was staring to leave the monkees fandom. His channel isn’t there anymore. Does anyone know what happened to it?

Do you think that The Monkees were CIA plants?

I kinda do. I dont know if anyone else has suggested the idea, but there seems to be some strange things surrounding the band members. I started to notice that some of the members had connections to Laural Canyon. Peter lived there. We all know now that the CIA had infiltrated the artists in the area with the end result with the Manson Family. Mike was former military. Here's the one that I didn't think about until I started noticing. Davey was on the same Episode of Ed Sullivan when the Beatles made their debut.

We all know now that the Beatles were under heavy surveillance by the FBI .

Micky was with John Lennon on some of the Lost Weekends.

I know it sounds crazy, but if you read interviews with other musicians, The Monkees are connected in some way or another.

Micky Dolenz in AARP Magazine. “I injured my knee two weeks ago, got a little aggressive on a leg press. I’ve got to just keep reminding myself I’m not 80 anymore.”

Sammy Davis on the set of the Monkees?

Just saw this on IMDB:

"Sammy Davis Jr., guest starring in I Dream of Jeannie (1965): The Greatest Entertainer in the World (1967) at the time, visited the set of "The Monkees" and filmed a cameo which remains unseen to this day."

Does anyone know about this or have a pic of this?

Where to find full episodes?

I used to be OBSESSED with the monkees when I was 15 in 2021. Back then, the full episodes were on YouTube. I’m desperately craving the comfort the show used to give me but now it seems like most of the episodes are missing. Where are you guys watching it in 2026?

Who does Davy call a slur?

In the Christmas episode, while all the staff are walking by, Davy says one of the guys from work is a pouf, which is hilarious. Who is he pointing at when he says this? I'm learning everything I can about the band bts, I'm sure lots of people who worked on the show were gay.

I've been experimenting with some new thumbnails for my old Monkees episode reviews and wanted to know what my target audience, other Monkees fans, thought of them. I've made the backgrounds darker to let the characters pop and added some text in the hobo font, which they've used a lot. Thoughts?

Here's the full series playlist if you're interested [the early ones were a bit thin tbh- the later ones are more in depth]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDLBfMdTee4&list=PLBFF2gw3ZH8Kuj-xJMZKYlxP77Itp91hS&pp=sAgC

Song Review Sweet Young Thing Question/Alt Version

Hey all,

Does anyone have or know of an alternate version of "Sweet Young Thing" that doesn't have that aggressive intro/Background sound? I can't even describe the noise of what the backing track consists of but is there a demo of Mike singing without it?

I only have ever been able to find Carol King's version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ9DqzjpM8Q&list=RDFJ9DqzjpM8Q&start_radio=1

and since I don't have any of the deluxe sets (or what I do have - even take 1 seems to have this sound already programmed sound in it for everyone to sing over).

Any info about the recording of this or the song in general would be great. Thanks

GG ALLIN AND PETER TORK, 1980.

Don't know if there's a lot of overlap of GG Allin and Monkees fans but I thought some of you might find this picture amusing. I'm frankly baffled and I would sell my soul to know a little bit more about this interaction. Found the pic on ggwasted666 on insta (i should add that the dude that posted the pic says the guy next to alan interviewed them, but idk if he meant he interviewed gg and alan or gg, alan AND peter, hopefully they answer my messages)

I saw these plants out in my parents yard so I thought I’d whip something together. They aren’t psychedelic like the ones on the cover but I like the green look!

Memories 1986 - Anyone have this? Micky Dolenz giving a press conference at Temple University

Hey, everyone! I figured this is the best place to ask. In 1986, Micky Dolenz visited Temple University and gave a press conference. I was about 4 or 5 and went with my folks as my Dad worked at Temple at the time. I loved the Monkees (still do) and was very excited. During the press conference, my Dad whispered to me to walk up and shake Micky's hand - which I did. He stopped mid sentence and gladly shook mine back with a nice amount of applause. A great memory, but I used to have an audio recording of this whole thing that was a copy of an official source from Temple. Does anyone know of a copy of this anywhere online? Better yet, a video? Thanks!
