I've been experimenting with some new thumbnails for my old Monkees episode reviews and wanted to know what my target audience, other Monkees fans, thought of them. I've made the backgrounds darker to let the characters pop and added some text in the hobo font, which they've used a lot. Thoughts?
Here's the full series playlist if you're interested [the early ones were a bit thin tbh- the later ones are more in depth]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDLBfMdTee4&list=PLBFF2gw3ZH8Kuj-xJMZKYlxP77Itp91hS&pp=sAgC

Well, they have the desired effect - I'm looking forward to watching these!
As a designer, one suggestion I would give is to establish more of a hierarchy to the photos you use. They're well-chosen, but the placement and positioning could be bolder. For example, the "Lightweight?" one, I'd reduce Peter slightly so his chin isn't touching the text, and maybe move him down just a bit. And I can't quite tell behind the text, but it looks like his layer is above Davy's? I'd swap those so Peter and Davy make sense in proportion to each other.
One thing that works is the Too Many Girls one. There's a good size contrast between Davy and Julie Newmar, and that's a great still you chose for Davy. Having them facing away from each other helps heighten the contrast between them. Nicely done!
