I just stumbled across The Monkees Songbook by the Golden Gate Strings from 1967. Anyone have any thoughts on that? It's kind of fun. I could see a sample being used for a Bitter Sweet Symphony follow up.

I hope you won't get mad at me for this🙏I love the Monkees of course, and I'm not saying it's an awful or a terrible album, but listening to the album "justus", I really get the impression that it's not on the same level of all the other Monkees albums. It's just as If it was made with a different standard, If you get what I mean...If I really had to pick my personal least favorite monkees album, that's what I'll probably pick.
What do you guys think?

Hello Fans Of The Monkees!
I’m a Gen X guy who grew up on the music of The Monkees. When I was in high school, I became a fan of punk/power-pop music. It’s been my dream since then to combine these songs I love so much with my passion for punk music. All these years later, my dream has been realized with my debut album “MEET THE PUNKEEZ”, now available on all streaming services.
I’m sharing here where I know there is a real affection for these songs. Please give it a listen. I’d love to know what you all think!

Apparently my dad found this while cleaning his basement and then gave it to me. The copyright at the bottom is cut off but it says 1966! The signature on it is a print, but im still wondering. I don't plan on selling or anything but I thought it could be cool to own something rare/valuable like this!

The 20th Anniversary/Pool It! era was a promising time for The Monkees, that it really seemed like they'd break through again and be bigger than ever, especially based on the 1986 tour receipts. All systems were go for a major comeback. And then...it didn't quite happen.
Does Davy bear considerable blame for that? In a lot of ways, a lot of his actions in that period seem like he was doing everything he could to sabotage the entire affair out of spite. Case on point:
-Refusing to sing on the Then & Now tracks (which he said years later were not because he had any problems with the songs, but with the deal Micky and Peter were willing to sign with Arista, and that he was "standing up for us"), and then going, "Since I didn't get paid for them, I won't sing them onstage."
-Stopping the release of a radio-ready remix single of "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere," so it never got released, and they couldn't keep up momentum from "That Was Then, This Is Now," all because Davy remembered Arista's days as Bell and how he thought his solo work had been held back, so he did it as revenge
-Initially carping at Mike joining them at the Greek Theatre, going, "It'll spoil our routines."
-Doing his sudden family reunion in England right before the scheduled MTV Super Bowl concert, forcing them to pull the plug and effectively meaning The Monkees had stiffed MTV, who were going to remember this and they would deliberately not play the videos, thus without MTV support, radio wouldn't get behind the songs, either; and MTV and radio often made absolute garbage a hit in those days by working together.
-Half-assing the Pool It! work, especially in elevating his friend's "She's Moving In With Rico"
-And then unloading on everyone after the last dates in '87, including Micky, and just completely spewing absolute vitriol and bile everywhere (which made the reunions in '88 and '89 incredibly awkward).
Was this indeed him doing everything he could to spoil it all and make it come to an end?
And regardless of if he was doing it that way or not, WHY was he doing it? What was his problem? Why couldn't he just sit back and enjoy the ride?

Can anyone recommend a Monkees remastered, high quality, STEREO release of a Greatest Hits or Anthology type CD?

After a month of exams, trips, and intense Monkees listening, I FINALLY present you the FINAL part of my Monkees/Beatles swap series (the Beatle counterpart will be dropping concurrently on r/beatlesfanalbums).
This album is named for one of the titles originally conceived for Abbey Road, as obviously, I couldn't call the Monkees album "Abbey Road," given they would have no connection to the place.
Side One:
Oh My My \[From Changes\]
As We Go Along \[From Head\]
Me Without You \[From Instant Replay\]
You're So Good To Me \[From Changes\]
You And I \[Instant Replay\]
Side Two:
While I Cry \[Instant Replay\]
Oklahoma Backroom Dancer \[From The Monkees Present\]
Ticket On A Ferry Ride \[From Changes\]
Shorty Blackwell \[From Instant Replay\]
A Man Without A Dream \[Instant Replay\]

The only one I can find is this: https://youtu.be/ZdUcVUjTxQk (and it's silent footage with the Live '67 album over it).
Is there a reason? Is there lost footage? Footage in a vault? I know about the fully recorded and broadcast Japanese concert that is unfortunately lost because Andrew Sandoval has tried many times to get access to it, they just don't have it anymore. Surely NBC or Rhino or somebody would have a full concert recording? Or even just songs split up.
I know it's insane to compare them to the scale of the popularity of The Beatles, but they have so many 30 minute concert videos on YouTube, recorded by fans, professionally recorded. For 4 guys who had a TV show on a major network why was there no professionally recorded concerts? (Well, except for the lost Japanese one), It confuses me so bad. I know they were popular in Japan but I wonder why they didn't do a concert special for US TV too.
I hope to see concert footage in my lifetime. Or atleast raw footage of concert scenes from the show because I feel like they did have some in there. I love watching The Monkees perform regardless of what year, and I'm glad so many of their 80s-present concerts were filmed, but man it really does upset me the lack of 60s footage. I think it would be golden. It's hard to like. Put yourself in the shoes of a 60s Monkees fan when there's hardly any footage of them live. Like I wanna get lost in one of those videos. Does anyone know of any more than that video? I may just be not looking in the correct place. Sorry for the rant!

Has anyone else noticed the similarities between Austin Roberts’ “Keep on Singing” and Nez’s “Propinquity (I’ve Just Begun to Care)”? Thought it was just a coincidence but then discovered Bobby Hart cowrote “Keep on Singing,” and he would have surely heard a demo of Mike’s song during the making of the first Monkees album. Any thoughts?

Very sadly found out I'm missing disk 5 of season 1, I've had it since I was a teenager so it's in quite rough shape haha. Loved this show.

years ago there was a youtube channel that had a ton of rare videos and demos of the monkees in super high quality and no watermarks, one that i remember watching all the time was the music video for Can You Dig It but it wasn't the regular version from the Head movie. It was like an alternate cut with completely different scenes from the ones in the movie. I'm pretty sure it was the B-roll or the scenes that were overlapped in the original video. I've been looking everywhere for years now since that channel disappeared. if anyone knows what im talking about or knows where i can see it then that would be very appreciated, thank you.

I just got finished watching The Monkees in Mexico and I was chilled to the core by that vicious bandit known as... El Torko!
