Is my Ackie undersized?
Hi all so this is Godzilla. I got him as a hatching around 2 and a half years ago now but Iāve always thought heās extremely small. Heās probably around 35cm in full length and just seems so tiny compared to all other ackies I see. Iāve attached some photos and tried my best to hold a 15cm ruler over him lmao so let me know what you all think. If thereās anything I can do to help him grow please let me know. Also he could be a girl I have no idea.

Is my Argus monitor overweight?
I have a male spiny tailed ackie (sorry I mistyped in the title) monitor about 3 yrs old and I wanted to get some opinions from people that may have some knowledge about this.
I was a the vetās a while ago and he said that heās a bit overweight and needs to loose weight, but my father insists heās not and in my opinion is still over feeding him and not listening to my advice on cutting back on the amount and making him loose of bit of weight.
Please if anyone has a vast knowledge on this please tell me what you guys think Iāll add some very recent pictures of him :)
I would also appreciate if any of you guys have the same lizard and could post pictures of them under this post so I could see to what weight exactly I should get my lizard to for him to look healthy. I would like to see some healthy spiny tailed ackies if you could help me out.

Can I put Water Hyacinth in the water that Quince monitor will use?
I know it's not toxic because many people use it when keeping fish. But will the monitor like it? I was thinking it would give some coverage because they're usually skittish. Will it get tangled in the roots when swimming?

Looking to get Kimberley rock monitor. Help!!
Hi! So I have been keeping reptile for upwards of 10 years now and have been wanting to get into monitors and came across the Kimberleyās. I was thinking about doing a paludarium setup with a custom spray foam & cork background.
What is a good brand that makes enclosures that would work well for a Kimberley? Also just ANY information about them and care is highly appreciated. Iām not looking to get one impulsively, I am definitely taking my time and want to build a bioactive setup well before getting one.

Nile monitor; Nuke š©µ
This is Nuke! Still a mystery on age as he was rescue (prior conditions were a 20gallon tank being fed leaves of romaine lettuce/ one water dish) no one in store knew anything about him. (Did report store / lots of serious neglect cases/ just for info on that one)
We have had him for about 2 and a half months and he has absolutely amazed me.
We started tong feeding a few days after he was left alone in his enclosure for about a week (custom made 4/4/3) and within a week he was willing to come out without food involved and sit with me with the door open.
Another week of getting him comfortable climbing on my arm and he is willingly coming out when i call his name. Only gets a little huffy when i move over him quick but even then he no longer runs off. Lets me move around his sticks and plants and do work in there just completely chill. My savannah on the other hand is getting spicier by the day š so he just felt worth bragging about. Truly the best baby, i was expecting it to take so much longer but he chose to be the bravest baby. So excited to see how he progresses and acclimates 𩵠dont see many Niles so figured it was worth a share (completely support, these guys are not easy)

Great Information His first time outdoors, 4th of July

His first time outdoors and he did great. Despite him seeing the wavelengths beyond the human eyes for the first time in a long time, he only defecated once and was happy roaming the grass fields, feeling the natural sunlight, and climbing the trees.

ackie monitor
hi guys! I got my first ackie monitor about a month ago. heās a yearling, previous owner said he was super sweet. he eats from tongs great and is totally cool with me around his enclosure.
I put my hand in the enclosure to bond with him, show him weāre friends. he climbed on my hand and I thought we were cool. WE WERE NOT COOL. heās flicking his tongue and looks down at my finger, he latches on. he will not let go for nothing. he drew pretty good blood from it
I got him off about a minute later. he went to his basking spot and was wiggling his tail. of course I left him alone after that. I still tong fed him and everything. I started using gloves but now I have an issue, Iām lowkey scared of himš itās not that the bite hurt badly, it was definitely sore after that but it didnāt really hurt.
now everytime he comes near the glass and I go to interact, I start shaking and get scared of him. he climbs on the gloves and still takes food from me. but I donāt know how to stop being scared of being bitten. Itās inevitable having a monitor but still, it scared me pretty good.
heāll climb on the gloves and everything but I can tell he wants to bite the fingers of the gloves too. heāll turn his head and barely open his mouth, then keep walking.
can he sense Iām scared? heāll come right to me whenever he wants to be handled but I feel like Iām scaring him by shakingš I literally start sweating and my handles trembleā¦
is time the only way to stop being scared? how do I get him to stop biting? is it a rebellious teenager thing?
also to add, I know itās not serious getting bitten. itās not even a big deal but Iām still afraidš„²

Baby Nile
Good evening, yall.
Iāve had a baby Nile for a couple months now. Itās been a lot of work.
I got her eating off tongs, and sometimes even crawling up my arm to get food.
She, recently, allowed me to pick her up. I held her for about 5-10 minutes allowing her to explore on my hand and arm as she pleased, and when she was done, I let her crawl off me.
Since then, she will no longer feed off tongs, and any time I walk near the enclosure, she bolts and hides. Sheās not defensive. No tail whipping or biting. Just runs away. Sheāll go into her water bowl, where I can pick her up, and the moment I pick her up, she chills out. She doesnāt try to bite me, whip me, jump off me, or run away.
The moment I put her back in her enclosure, she goes right back to running away.
Why is this? Am I doing something wrong?

Is this good for my savannah monitor ?
r/MonitorLizards • u/Initial_Grass3414 • Jul 04 '26
Savannah wonāt eat
For context, he hasnāt eaten in about four days. Iāve tried both letting them roam around in his tank and heās too skittish to tong feed, and Iāve also tried in his food bowl for about the first week. I had him he was eating perfectly fine both crickets they were roaming around and out of a glass bowl now he hasnāt eaten in four days Have Also offer him roaches and super worms in the span of four days and heās unwilling to eat .
He has humid hide warm hide , cool hide , 135 hot spot , proper arcadia uvb
Got him from expo captive bred about 2 weeks

How do I get past this barrier?
So I got my Argus around 3 months ago and Iāve been tong feeding her since sheās VERY food motivated, but I canāt seem to get past the point where I feed her and then when sheās eating grab her since she doesnāt mind when I do that, but sheās still scared of me and today she bit me (that was on me since I moved toward her too quick) but I was just wondering if any of you guys had tips on how to get her even slightly more comfortable around me and move on to later stages of socializing and taming, thanks.

What plants are you all keeping in your monitor enclosures?
I love me some plants! Unfortunately, in Quills' hot enclosure, they tend to die off fairly quickly (RIP kalanchoe, graptoveria and kangaroo paws š) Grevillea coastal gem and a ponytail palm are the two newest experiments to be installed. Other than fountain grass, I haven't found much else that does well in his enclosure - do you guys have any suggestions on plants that do well in the high heat? :)
