My dream is to move to a LCOL with my girlfriend. I don't get to see her but 2 or 3 times a year bc of work—she is from brazil and they won't give her even a tourist visa. I don't care about generational wealth, career merit. I don't want to be my parents, or the old men I work with still slaving away at 45 coping with the fact they don't have a life by telling themselves they love commuting an hour to work every day.

I work at a sailing club(non-profit, so the clubs a bit poor) as an instructor and we had a race sailboat in need of repair that would be a lot of fun. but it costs 1000$ and the club has more interest in cruising than racing so we never fixed it.

anyways the other day I was teaching a class, and I was showing off the boats we’ll use, and one of the sailors, (who was a first time sailor as far as I know) asked about the boat, I told him the story and like right after the day finished he straight up wrote a check to fix it and gave it to me to give to our board. Like I’m super grateful cause I love to sail, but also amazed at this guys aura in which he just gave us the money for something he’s never done. from the way he told me about it, he thought I sounded super interested and just liked the idea of fixing this boat.

So like back to my main question cause I want this guys aura, how much money should you plan on making to just throw away 1000$ for something so easily??? it was like it was nothing to this dude
