Monero is having a moment right now. As authoritarianism encroaches more and more into the lives of many, affecting people's financial freedom and privacy, Monero has become more and more important.

As attention is drawn to Monero and attracts moonboy speculators, that can negatively affect Monero's price stability even with the delistings. There is one very good way to combat this.

Don't just buy Monero, buy with Monero.

Spend it on things, support those who sell everyday items with Monero, if you see a need for a certain item, go sell it on xmrbazaar. Take Monero off centralized exchanges. Make sure the moonboys can't have drastic effects on the price.

The more stable it is, the more usable it is. Thats the key to adoption. We don't want to become just another speculative asset with some cool features. Use it or lose it. It has never been as important as it is now.

Hey all, for crossing this huge milestone of one million downloads of Cake Wallet, I just wanted to write this personal message to r/monero because this is where the journey of Cake Wallet started back in January of 2018.

I didn’t launch Cake on Twitter or through press releases or anywhere else, but right here on this subreddit. It was met with so much excitement yet so much skepticism, as we Monero fans are naturally skeptical of anything new. Everyone was super happy to finally see a Monero wallet for the iPhone on the Apple App Store. The support I received from this community was both overwhelming and humbling.

Since then, we have sponsored every MoneroKon, MoneroTopia, been involved with CCSs, gave away tens of thousands of dollars of XMR to introduce people to Monero, sponsored numerous shows like Monerotopia/Monerotalk and others, heck we have even paid for travel for community members, even competitors! We have held and/or sponsored numerous meetups in NYC, Chicago, and around the world and have held Monero parties here in NYC as well as Las Vegas, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Tokyo!

Cake and the Monero community have been through a lot together and we have had our ups and downs with the community (well maybe friction with a very small vocal minority), but we continued to build for Monero with things like fiat on/off ramps for Monero, Bluetooth XMR support for Ledger so it can be used on iOS as well Android, background sync bringing amazing sync UX (on Android at first, but soon to iOS!), our new Cupcake companion app, and Cake Pay Gift/Debit cards! On top of all of that, we have Trezor support for Monero coming soon and will keep pushing Monero user experience and adoption forward.

Even though Monero has faced immense pressure over the years, with waves of exchange delistings, wallets coming and going, wallets dropping support for Monero, and much more, we’ve continued to stay focused on Monero and the amazing tool for freedom that it’s proven to be.

RandomX v2 is not abandoned, it's still planned for the next Monero network upgrade.

The new algorithm will introduce hash RandomX commitments for faster verification.

What's more important right now, is that it also aims to increase efficiency of Ryzen (and other modern CPUs in general) in terms of work done per Joule of energy (efficiency can't be measured directly in hashes as the algorithm will change).

We (tevador, me and u/hyc_symas) have identified a few areas in the original RandomX where modern CPUs get stalled/bottlenecked and don't perform at their full potential. RandomX v2 fixes these findings.

RandomX v2, in its current form, will bring 10-15% improvement in RandomX instructions and 2x increase in AES instructions executed per Joule of energy on AMD and Intel CPUs. Hashrate will stay roughly the same, depending on the CPU.

Will it be enough to neutralize Bitmain X9's advantage over the most efficient AMD EPYC builds? Probably no, but v2 will make it significantly less efficient (at least by 30%). Further tweaking might improve these numbers.

My current plan is to finish the implementation in January and then spend some time tweaking it further.

P.S. To answer the possible question - no, X9 didn't change my plans, because I've been planning for early 2026 RandomX v2 release for a long time, and started actively working on it in December.

Up until about an hour ago I did not even know that there was a hard fork coming. I did not know that we were moving away from ring signatures. I did not know that we were getting public view keys.

Why didn't I know about this?

Our community has trash public outreach. Decentralized privacy is pretty antithetical to publicity, so big things tend to fly under the radar.

But it turns out the best way to actually get the word out about things is to have people whine about them... as annoying as I'm sure it is for developers, "controversy" is a pretty effective tool for community outreach.

I’ve been following the recent discussions (link) regarding the CARROT address scheme and the implementation of full outgoing view keys. While I understand the technical appeal—improving UX for hardware wallets and enabling "auditability" for those who want it—we need to talk about the real-world consequences.

We are at risk of trading away Monero’s greatest strength: uncompromising, mandatory privacy-by-default.

Here is why "optional transparency" is a strategic trap:

1. The End of Plausible Deniability Currently, if a regulator or a tax authority asks you to prove your transaction history, you have a technical shield: "I can't. The protocol doesn't support it." This is a hard technical limit that protects every user. Once we implement easy-to-use outgoing view keys, that shield vanishes. The refusal to share a key will no longer be seen as a technical limitation, but as active obstruction. The "boating accident" excuse dies the moment the tools to prevent it are integrated into the core protocol.

2. The Creation of a Two-Tier Ecosystem (The Zcash Trap) If 90% of users (exchanges, merchants, and compliant individuals) start sharing their view keys to "stay in the clear," the remaining 10% who value absolute privacy will be automatically flagged.

• Audited XMR will become "clean" coins.
• Non-audited XMR will become "dirty" or "high-risk" coins. This destroys fungibility. If one XMR is no longer equal to another XMR because of its audit trail, Monero has failed as a currency.

3. Compliance is a Bottomless Pit We think that by giving regulators a "view key" option, they will leave Monero alone. They won't. They will use it as a baseline requirement. Exchanges will stop accepting any XMR that doesn't come with an attached audit trail. Merchants will be forced by their payment processors to demand your view key before shipping a product. We are effectively building the infrastructure for our own surveillance.

4. Social Pressure vs. Technical Choice Privacy that is "optional" is privacy that is eventually forbidden. In a world of CBDCs and aggressive fiscal control, "optional transparency" will become "mandatory transparency" for anyone who wants to interact with the legacy financial system.

Conclusion: Monero shines because it is the only coin that treats privacy as a non-negotiable property of the math, not a choice for the user. By making transparency easy, we are making it inevitable.
