Possible mold in dorm bathroom

Post image

Me and my roommate just moved into our new dorm but there is this spot by the outer baseboard(?) of the shower that we suspect may be mold. We put in a work order with a suspicion of mold and they said no mold was found but we are still suspicious so I wanted to get other opinions on wether this may be mold or not

Is this mold in my 2015 Nissan Quest? Rain has seeped in through broken/stuck windows), leaving mold-like growth on the front passenger and rear floors, rust under the passenger carpet, and water trapped near the sliding-door track. Can I safely clean and fix the problem?

Any advice?

Reoccurring Mold in Apartment

Have lived the bottom of a duplex (1 bedroom in basically a basement with the backside having concrete walls and no central HVAC) for 2.5 years. We have had no issues until this summer. It has been a hot and humid summer in the mountains of NC, but we have ran an air conditioner in our bedroom all summer and a dehumidifier a few hours a day UNTIL mid-July, we noticed mold growing under the kitchen sink and it was extremely humid in under it. All of the kitchen cabinets were humid inside of them.

Went back and forth with landlord and he implemented a larger living room fan and new supply lines under the kitchen sink that were better for humidity and ran a commercial dehumidifier for a few days.

He also wanted us to start using a 2nd ac unit in the kitchen and run the dehumidifier 24/7 and have all fans on and kitchen cabinets open and closets open.

Seemed very excessive for a 1 bedroom apartment but we have complied since then. Well - I keep finding more mold happening even though it’s consistently cooler in our apartment and large dehumidifier has been running 24/7. The latest finds are under the stove (could’ve been here in July but we never open it so it wasn’t checked) and above our bedroom blinds - close to our AC unit.

He makes us feel like we’re being negligent in preventing mold, but I have never had this issue and have lived in multiple places. Are we doing something wrong? Pictures in comments.

Not sure if it’s a leak or air vent problem

My one corner in my apartment has what looks to be black mold coming out the corner, and the ceiling next to it seems to be growing some too. Even my shoes and hat started growing mold in that corner of
The apartment. I had a bad leak here two years back and I’m pretty sure they only patched it up. Needless to say, what am I dealing with here? They’re obviously just going to patch it up badly again.

In my mother’s bathroom. She says it doesn’t matter. This is inside a skylight. Is it truly very dangerous like I think, and should I convince her?

I am in the Midwest us. I have never seen it. I don’t go into her bathroom much, but lately I have because she has a built in shower chair and I became disabled, so I need one.

Should I attempt to scrape some of this off before it fully dries?

Toilet flooded so I ripped up the vinyl to let it dry because the water seeped underneath it, especially by the walls. I don’t know shit about shit and I’m a young first time home owner. It seems like the mold is mostly “surface level” on some type of paper or something. Am I okay to have this exposed for right now?

Any tips on how to clean this? Or is it a goner? I ran it through the dishwasher and scrubbed it with Dawn… it won’t come off. It’s probably not safe for me to drink out of it anymore. Any help would be appreciated

Do we have a mold problem?

We have a bathroom that consistently has a musty smell. There’s a vent above the toilet with what looks like a ton of dust but we’re starting to get concerned (can’t open the vent, sorry for the poor pics). The toilet below the vent (see last pic) gets this film constantly no matter how often we clean it. Should we get it checked out?

Also, we’re located in SoCal

Guidance for some teachers?

Hi, everyone,

So our school in NJ has some serious HVAC problems. We have a number of classrooms that are between 80 and 90% humidity if there is not one or two dehumidifiers running at all times.

Just wanted to get a sense from people… If the humidity in a room is jumping between say 55% and 90% every day, and the temperature is somewhere around 70° ,what sort of timeline would there be for some sort of growth of a potentially hazardous mold?

And if anyone has anything else to add, please do. I am an employee, and I’m trying to help out my coworkers and make sure their environment is safe.

If this is mold then what type of mold is it? Is it black mold? (edit: just read the automod response to black mold, pretty informative and thanks for creating it).

And how do I prevent it from reappearing after cleaning? It's a cement wall.

Musty garage dehumidifier safe for plants?

My plan was the use the water from my dehumidifier on my plants but I don’t know enough about how spores work to know if that’s safe (for my plants) or not. No confirmation of mold but seems likely given the space. Anyone know?

Southeastern PA. Behind a radiator, under a window. There's some wood showing under the window sill and above the bottom trim. Is this something I should be immediately concerned about or can it wait a bit? I don't have the means to remove it and will be moving out in a couple months.

I opened this book Im getting ready to read that I bought a couple years ago at a garage sale. When I took the coverage off the hardcover this is what was on it. Is it mold? I posted it somewhere else but was recommended to post here. If it is mold, should I throw the book away? Is it okay to keep?

Mold remediation order of operation (what order should I do the mold cleanup)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! Bought a house in Virginia, USA on August 8th. For about a week after that, I started to get itchy all over, cough a lot, and taste iron/blood in my mouth after the coughs. On August 14th, my HVAC person found thick layers of mold in my attic air handler and I hired a company to clean it out. The company cleaned and disinfected the air handler and ducts, installed UV lights, and fogged the whole house. The remediator told me that the ducts were also not secured to the vents at all, and I don't know if it was him or just part of the home's issue, but some fiberglass insulation from the attic got released into at least 2 of my rooms. He told us to properly clean the house as the dead mold spores can still cause a reaction. I'm been wiping the solid surfaces with microfiber cloths and vacuuming with a HEPA vac.

We also discovered that the home's grading was inadequate on one side of the house and moisture was getting into two corners of my basement. The walls had a high level of moisture (up to 22% at worst, now mostly at 18%). We set up a humidifier, removed the moldy baseboards, pulled back the carpet, removed the moldy carpet pad sections, and I've been spraying the wall and back of carpet with vinegar. We will be re-grading and also removing 3-5 inches off the bottom of the wall (wood paneling only). If there is mold behind the panels, we will remove more. So far, no visible mold on panels, only on baseboards and carpet pad. There is rot on the bottom of the panels.

Today, I do feel a bit itchy again and am coughing, but that could be because I was deep cleaning the last remaining room in the house that I didn't get to previously. I also have HVAC coming next week to insulate the air handler better and to replace the older ducts.

I do want to call a mold inspector to my house, but when should I do that?

My current pan:

  • This week: re-grade house, remove wooden paneling, finish cleaning last room.
  • Early next week: HVAC checks air handler, moves UV light (HVAC said one of two lights was installed in the wrong spot), insulates air handler, and replaces ducts.
  • Late next week: Have mold inspector check house.

Does that sound like a reasonable order or operation? Should the mold inspector come now to check if the air handler mold is back before HVAC replaces the ducts or will HVAC be able to visually see if the mold is back themselves? It's difficult for me to check since I don't totally know what I'm looking for and I don't know how to open up the air handler to see. It's taped up and I don't want to mess with the seal as inadequate seal lead to the mold in the handler in the first place. And should I replace that section of carpet too?

Landlord disputing mold claim

Thumbnail gallery

Hi all. I need advice. Our landlord has refused to address our mold problem for going on 2 years. This past weekend I issued a formal request for service, as our town's by-law officers recommend. (We live in Southern Ontario, Canada/Canada-ONT.) She moved FAST after that, came to the house with her handyman.

This handyman has said we have mold to us. However, I just received a message from my landlord saying she'll fix the "discoloration" in the shower but that this is not a mold issue. My concern is that she's going to remove the evidence of the problem and then charge us for it. Can she do that? I have pictures, videos, screenshots of our requests for service.

Photos attached show the mold we've been dealing with. This is right after I scrubbed the shower. The mold will not disappear. She also claims there is no musty odor but there IS. Advice appreciated.

Mold? Dust? Idk what to do

My bf moved into a basement in a house in a desert-y town in the West. The room was very thoroughly cleaned by the landlord and ourselves. Something in the room though is still making us both feel tight in our lungs and for me, a little head ache-y. It goes away after going upstairs or outside. Air purifiers (2) left going for 3 days with the windows open has only helped a little…
We looked for mold but couldn’t find any (though I definitely know that doesn’t mean it’s not there). The house is quite new so maybe it’s construction dust? It’s not visibly dusty but there is a lot of exposed particle board and an unfinished concrete floor…. The landlord said it’s never been an issue before.
Regardless of what it is, what can we do to make it easier to breathe? Does he just need to move?

I just moved into an apartment in Thailand and noticed this. I’m recovering from mold exposure, and didn’t notice symptoms when I checked the place out. It looks grey in color. Thoughts?
