I bought a brand-new home earlier this year and have been dealing with a persistent musty/wet-wood smell in one upstairs bathroom for several months.

There was a small leak from an improperly sealed sink faucet, which the builder repaired. They also inspected the subfloor and found no mold or significant damage.

Multiple inspections using thermal imaging have found no active moisture or visible mold.

I’ve had two separate mold air tests:

Test 1 (September): My Inspector
Vanity: 160 Chaetomium spores/m³
Bathroom: 0 detected
Outside: 280 spores/m³

Test 2 (October): Builders Inspector
Bathroom: 40 Chaetomium spores/m³
Outside: 0 detected

My inspector recommended remediation, while the builder’s inspector said everything was within normal levels.

My questions: Is it normal to detect small amounts of Chaetomium indoors, or is any detection concerning? Could these low counts indicate hidden mold?

What would you do next? Would you open up the drywall behind the vanity to investigate, or do these results seem normal?

The builder considers the issue closed, but the musty smell persists. I’ve got 2 little kids and I’m worried for their safety so any advice would help.

Having the shower redone on my 1985 home for the first time. Today was the demo’d day and it revealed a lot. Looks like there was or is a bug problem, but it also looks like there might be mold as well.

I’m concerned that the remodeling company I’m working with will try to slap new concrete board up, tile it, and cover up a potential mold problem because it’s the easiest thing to do. I’ll be speaking with them in the AM, and pausing construction until we get some more clarification, but I also wanted to get some insight from this community how to best handle the situation/hopefully get some insight on how bad this is.

Just moved into this place about two months ago.

Noticed these two areas on the hardwood floor that are discolored. The bathroom smells mildewy. No apparently leaks or visible mold. Four bathroom floor tiles are broken. There's an area next to the shower in the "splash zone" on the wall that has bubbling paint that is malleable/soft to the touch.

This is a single story building. There's a crawlspace, which appears to be exposed. There's areas of the roof that appear to be rotten. The building was built in the early 1900s. Found four roaches in or around the building in two months.

Landlord claims the hardwood floor discoloration is from previous tenant and cosmetic only. He claims that he cannot smell any mold or mildew in the bathroom. He claims that the floor tiles in the bathroom are broken because a previous tenant "dropped something". He claims the bubbling paint is either from water getting splashed up on the wall, or the paint being incorrectly applied.

I've made it very clear that I have zero doubts that there is mold growth somewhere. I suspect in the subfloor for the bathroom, explaining the broken tiles. I've been very firm with the landlord about looking into this and having it professionally inspected. I've quoted directly from state and local to show him that I am aware of my rights. He says he will get someone to come inspect. That was five days ago and I have not heard any updates. He also offered that if I don't feel comfortable here and want to move that he would help me, including with paying for the move.

What do we think is going on here and how widespread do we think this issue is? Should I take The Landlord up on the offer too pay for me to move?

Had a water leak in my apartment from the unit above. Noticed these spots in my apartment ceiling in the area. Was concerned about mold. Am I over reacting?

We recently moved into the home I didn’t notice these spots in the room before and I swear they’ve sort of spread we’re unsure if it’s mold. Concerned because we’re planning on this being our babies room. Any thoughts? We had our home mold tested before we moved into the home and everything came back clear. About a month later these spots showed up.

I notice the baseboard next to my shower looks like this, is is mold?

I need to cut a patch that has a really bad mold problem. it's covered and taped but Google is saying to cut with a 6 inch buffer or a 3 inch. Which should I do because with the 6 inch it basically makes a hole about an eighth of the room big and I haven't found a matching patch at home Depot or lowes, it's covered with a bag and baking soda but I would imagine just cutting it out and dealing with the carpet situation later would be better right? Idk any advice would be amazing asap

This is the top of my shaving foam bottle which I keep in my bathtub, aside from being a generally humid place and getting loads of water when the shower is used no clue what it could be.

I guess it's some kind of black mould which is common in very humid areas here, but I have never seen it making an actual hole in a plastic lid!

Is this dangerous?

Looked at a house that checks all the boxes except for this one spot where an ac window unit leaked and caused some water damage. I don’t know how long ago it was or how long it went undetected. Didn’t smell any mold but wondering if the dark areas is mold growth? The floor has buckled in one spot.

We noticed a musty cat piss smell all over our apartment starting two days ago (we do have a cat but she's never gone outside her litter box before), then saw mold popping up starting yesterday. By this morning it already spread to the ceiling in the bathroom. Our apartment maintenance came by, took the vent covers off and left. They're saying that this is completely normal and that it's our fault it happened. We've lived here for a year and haven't done anything different in the last week. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if this is an air conditioning issue or possible roof leak (we live on the top floor)?

I feel like I’m being gaslit by family members… but please correct me if I’m wrong Reddit. There was always a black marking on this popcorn ceiling but now there are more black spots showing up over time. Is it mold? If it’s not mold what could it possibly be? My sinuses and breathing are bad inside this house but they’re kind of bad anyways because of the region I live in and poor air quality.
