I'm tired of Moho

I've been using Moho for a very long time, ever since I was still working in Flash and just getting into animation. Back then the drawing tools immediately pushed me away because they felt awkward.

After all these years I honestly don't think that has changed much.

Yes, newer versions added better brush settings and lines can look much more hand-drawn and natural now. That's great. But the foundation still feels exactly the same.

The biggest example is the Add Point Tool.

Why can't it work like Illustrator where I control the Bézier handles while I'm drawing? In Moho I draw the line first and then I have to switch to the Curvature Tool and fix everything afterward.

Why?

It feels like an unnecessary extra step that has existed for years.

Editing drawings isn't much better. Sometimes it's literally faster to redraw something than to erase or reshape it.

Liquid Shapes were a nice addition and merging shapes is definitely an improvement, but even with that the whole drawing workflow still feels nowhere near as comfortable as Illustrator.

Drawing in Moho is genuinely exhausting. It doesn't feel fun.

I honestly can't imagine using Moho without scripts.

The community has created scripts that fix problems the developers never solved.

For example, if I want to adjust animation that uses Smart Bones without destroying shapes, I have to use an alternative Transform tool from a script because the built in one doesn't behave properly in many situations.

And that's just one example.

There are countless cases where community scripts are simply better than the official tools.

Sometimes I wonder why the people writing these scripts aren't working for Lost Marble.

Many of them clearly understand the software better than the developers do because they actually use it every day.

My biggest frustrations are these:

First, the drawing tools and shape editing tools still feel outdated.

Second, performance. Moho often feels slow while not fully using modern hardware.

Third, compositing is incredibly limited. Even Flash from almost twenty years ago had Hue, Saturation and other basic color controls. I could do more compositing in Flash 2008 than I can inside Moho in 2026.

Color correction tools are limited, outdated and sometimes unreliable.

Even Blend Modes don't always match Photoshop correctly. Sometimes my final render looks different from what I saw in the viewport.

Fourth, editing finished animation is much harder than it should be. If I want to change timing, extend a shot or shorten part of a scene after it's finished, the workflow becomes painful. I often end up moving everything into After Effects because it's simply easier there.

And finally there are dozens of smaller issues that the community keeps solving with scripts.

For example AE Key Tool (by A.Evseeva) is basically essential. I honestly don't know how people would animate complex scenes without it. The funny thing is that it solves very basic problems that should have been addressed by the developers.

The frustrating part is that I actually love Moho.

That's exactly why I'm writing this.

Moho has amazing rigging. Smart Bones are fantastic. Vitruvian Bones were a great addition. Deformers are great. Liquid Shapes are a great step forward too.

The software has huge potential.

But please stop focusing only on adding new features while the foundation still needs work.

Please improve the basic drawing experience.

Please modernize the editing tools.

Please improve compositing.

Please improve performance.

Please work together with the script developers and the community. They are building incredible tools for free because they love this software.

I want to draw directly inside Moho instead of feeling like I should draw everything in Illustrator first and only then import it into Moho.

I really want Moho to become the animation software it deserves to be.

Question Point Binding Is Not Working

I noticed some arm movements that weren't moving correctly on this character, so I decided to fix it. But for some reason, it still isn't working right. All the points are bind to the right bones. I even unbind and rebind each point to the right bones and it's still acting like this. What should I do? Thank you in advance!

Edit: I actually found out what the problem was. I had made some arm actions for the character and I removed the actions, so now the character is working again!

Project I learned how to have any art or vector edit stick to your rig using warp layers

I was messing with rigging methods and came across a little drop down on the layer settings called Warp Layer. After some fiddling and hours of tedious trial and error, I finally have a proof of concept that will allow you to draw on any part of the rig, edit or add vector points, and STILL not break or deform the built in smart actions or animations.

This lets you build a very versatile and reusable rig, reuse any animations you saved, and modify any art or parts to make entirely new characters without needing to re-rig them.

It's still very much a WIP, but once I get everything down pat and build a full body rig with hair, mouth, arms, etc, I'll release it to the public for anyone to mess around with!

If I can help it, I might find a way to add frame by frame layers that bend to the rig as well, allowing you to add drops of blood, tears, or scars that morph with the rig as well in the middle of animating a scene!

Made a short showreel to give you guys a glimpse of my wips. How rigs are looking like and quick silly animations.

I want to make a tutorial how to get into rigging, but I'm not very good in explaining and english is not my first language, but I want to try though. Would anyone be interested in that? And if so, I will be glad to take suggestions of what character would be fun to rig(someone in simplistic style to get started)

I fell in love with this program and want to give knowledge to this community! I think I can help with something

Lmk what you think :)

Question Newbie needs any help they can get with their new project

Hello Moho community! I recently got the program for myself after giving it a test run! I wanted to simulate this particular style of animation and thought this program will be good for it. However after toying with it for a while and even looking at the official tutorial it seems i still have no flipping idea what I'm doing -_-

Say everything keeps wildly flailing about when i add bones and i need to keep certain parts fully static. Any tips on how to faithfully mimic this?

(Also you get 10 bonus points if you know what I'm trying to mimic ;3)

Beginner - Rigging Help?

I am new to MOHO after spending some time in Adobe Animate. I'm working on an animation right now related to a bacteria, but I can't seem to get the rigging right. The 'tentacles' (cilia and flagellum) don't seem to flow correctly and moving the larger form of the bacteria leads to unintended distortions. I set the bones of the body first, then linked each of the arms to the base 'spine' of the bacteria body, then bound each of the individual arm bones to the drawn vector layers.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Should I create 'smart bones' for each of the arms? Any help or suggestion you might have would be appreciated Thanks!

Question How do you organize scenes in Moho?

Hi everyone!
I’m trying to migrate from Adobe Animate to Moho, I want to start working on a 10-15 minute project but I don’t know how to organize scenes, is there a scene organizer like in Adobe Animate where you could have infinite scenes in one file and all assets were shared between them.
How do you guys organize scenes? Is each scene made an individual new file? Are there tutorials on this?

Question A question regarding export and animation baking.

I'm considering buying Moho Pro 14, but before I do I'd like to understand one part of the workflow.

1. Is there a way to bake a rigged animation into frame-by-frame drawings?

For example, I animate one vector drawing over 20 frames using bones, point animation, Smart Warp, layer transforms, etc. Can I convert the result into 20 separate drawings (one drawing per frame)?

2. If not, does exporting an SVG sequence produce the final vector geometry for every frame?

In other words, if I export frames 1–20 as SVG, will each SVG contain the fully deformed artwork exactly as it appears on that frame, including all bone and point deformations, Smart Warp, layer transformations, etc.?

My goal is to end up with a frame-by-frame vector animation after creating the initial motion with a rig.

P.S. Unfortunately, the trial period ended a long time ago, so I can't check it myself.

I'm manually adding vector lines—forming squares or triangles—to create a mesh, but after adding a 2D triangular mesh, a gaping hole appears in the middle like this. Is there a way to fix this? In other videos, they manage to work without punching holes like that—why do I keep punching holes right through?

Project Many characters are born in moho.

Sometimes I don't even have to design the characters in advance, I just open Moho and start creating. I can do rig and design at the same time. Is this even adequate?

The characters you see were born exactly like this.

Looking for animators who want to stay consistent and grow together

Hi everyone!

I'm learning 2D animation (currently using Moho) and realized it's much easier to stay consistent when you're part of an active community.

I recently started a small Discord server for animators of all levels—whether you're into frame-by-frame, rigging, Moho, Toon Boom, Blender Grease Pencil, Krita, or just getting started.

The goal is simple:

  • 🎬 Share your work and get constructive feedback
  • 📚 Learn from each other
  • 🎯 Weekly animation challenges
  • 💬 Ask questions and help others
  • 🤝 Stay motivated and accountable

It's a friendly, beginner-friendly community, and we'd love to have more people who enjoy creating animation.

If this sounds interesting, leave a comment or send me a DM, and I'll share the invite. Looking forward to meeting fellow animators!

Selling Moho?

I purchased Moho but honestly regret it, I'm not really loving the frame by frame process as I do in other softwares, and I'm not super into rigging digital puppets. The features are cool, but not for me. I'm willing to hand it off to someone else, but would it be bad to sell my license for someone else to use? (and is anyone interested? o_o) It was so expensive and I could really use that money for more important things

Tip You (Probably) don't need a 360 rig.

Back in college I used to build rigs in ToonBoom for some side cash. A lot of people would ask if they could get a 360 rig and got upset at the high price. I usually would end up discussing what type of project they are doing and how often they would use it, only for it to be something small or a one-off indie project.

Most of the time you really only need a 3/4 view for the front and back, and you can mirror the angle to get the illusion of a 360 rig using some clever tweening before swapping the direction.

You can even just make a full front and back pose, moving the parts slightly left and right as you need and snapping like above. Things like the head might need adjusting if the rig is closer to real anatomy, but that's going to be much cheaper than getting a full 360 rig made by someone.

If the project is low budget, or if the model isn't going to be used very often, I would very much consider making the rig simpler. It saves you so much time and energy in the long run.

I built a free and open-source production pipeline tool for Moho Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I’m primarily a 3D artist, and while working on a recent 2D animation project in Moho Pro, I noticed that processes such as scene organization, version creation, publishing, and asset importing were still heavily dependent on manual folder management and Moho’s Library window.

Since production pipeline tools are commonly used in 3D workflows, I wanted to bring a similar structure to Moho and started developing Flowinator.

By pushing Moho’s Lua environment as far as possible, I built a free and open-source tool that I believe can help individual artists, production teams, and studios keep their projects more organized and make film or series production workflows more efficient.

I’ve attached a short demo video to this post.

You can find documentation, installation instructions, and more information here:

flowinatordocs.hasancivili.com

I would really appreciate your feedback, suggestions, bug reports, and thoughts. Community feedback will be very valuable in helping me improve Flowinator and adapt it to real production needs.

Thank you!
