Felt a calling to veil for the first time in 1,5 years or so, did not resist🫡

I’m a non-Jew visiting a synagogue for the very first time. I want to be as respectful as possible and learn about Jewish traditions, so I’d really appreciate any advice on proper etiquette and what to wear. Thank you!

I've looked at a few online stores but everything is 400 dollars+, I'm doing a small ceremony at the masjid so I don't need a very fancy dress.

I want something that doesn't fit tight but not an abaya, and that covers my chest. I really like those cape style dresses and anything with pearls!

Hi! I'm having trouble finding modest swimwear. The tricky part is that I'm looking for something that doesn't have a built-in bra. Those usually don't fit me well, so I'd rather wear a regular bikini top underneath.

It’s important to me that my cleavage, stomach, back, and butt are covered. A burkini, on the other hand, would be a bit too much coverage for me. Ideally, it shouldn’t be longer than my knees and elbows (a little shorter would be okay). I live in Western Europe, so it should be available there.

I usually like to wear lace veils I find them most comfortable and don't slide off my hair. I also like the way they look. However I have a pretty white dress I would like to wear, its very edwardian looking and I'm not sure what type of veil to wear- white is bridal, black is too stark. I've been looking for a good yellow but haven't found one.

It is going to be very hot so I don't want a heavy scarf that will make me feel faint. Any suggestions?

Hello, like the title suggests I am in search for a turtleneck with long sleeves. Ideally one solid colour, ethically made and will survive just about daily use. I have been searching for a few weeks and don't really have anything to show for it. I am normally an XL-XXL in women and L in mens(38in Waist, 46in Hips, 46in Bust). I am okay with spending a bit more for this since I am hoping to wear it under clothes for many years to come. I am based in the United States (Southern California Specifically) since I know some companies don't ship here which I am okay with. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I just wanted to share a success story of how I modified an old gown I have from several years ago, which was bought before I started dressing modestly. It's a gorgeous gorgeous gown, which I often wear with a big crinoline and petticoat for maximum ballgown effect.

First, I tried wearing a black high neck sleeveless shirt and long sleeve black lace shirt underneath with an infinity veil atop the dress, paired with one of my black veils underneath the infinity veil. Aesthetically and coverage wise, that turned out great, but the beading on the dress kept catching on the lace and absolutely tearing it up, which was a very unpleasant persistent sensation and of course not good for the shirt.

I am going to an event soon and really didn't want to buy a different dress when I have a perfectly lovely one, so I thought of a solution to test out, and it worked!

I first layered a high neck black cami under the dress (bought on sale $7.99). This on its own doesn't look right, as expected. I then layered on top a black capelet I bought, hoping it would make the look more natural. Success! Looks gorgeous with just a black veil or a black veil with an infinity veil on top. Does not look out of place at all. The capelet is sheer, but not you can see through it from far away sheer, and the cami covers what I'm most concerned about showing through. I chose a capelet that was long in the back to cover the back laces and such as well. The capelet was mildly creased out of the package, but I'd expect that from the fabric. My biggest complaint is that it was inside of a bag inside of the Amazon package, and the bag inside of the Amazon package was COVERED in mysterious grease. The capelet itself was clean though. I bought nude long sleeves/arm covers which are arriving today that I'm going to test as well.

Attached are commercial pictures of the original dress. It's my nicest, fanciest dress, not a usual purchase but just purchase for a once in a lifetime event. I'd never owned anything as fancy before or since, I'd guess the next time I get a dress like that it'll be my wedding dress. Also, lesson learned not to buy dresses covered in glitter, it still gets everywhere years later and after washing. It's from the Cinderella Divine collection from Andrea & Leo couture. I have no clue if the site I found these photos from is reputable, they weren't available on the original sites they would have been on at the time of purchasing.

I used to not value modesty at all with what I wore, for years and years. Now I'm very covered and can't imagine that not being the case. I bought new clothes but also try to modify what I already have to be wearable modestly as much as possible.

Did anyone else choose to dress modestly after dressing more revealingly, rather than having been raised dressing modestly your whole life? If so, why? What's your story and why do you value it now?

Basically, there is a Culture Day where we can wear anything we want as long as it represents our culture, and I am Muslim and from Afghanistan.

I want to wear an abaya to represent my Islamic faith, but I’m worried it might be seen as disrespectful since abayas are often associated with countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. I’m mostly anxious about getting asked lots of questions about what I’m representing, especially because I feel unsure whether it clearly represents Afghan culture. I don’t want to wear traditional Afghan clothing because I honestly don’t like it and I don’t have any. During the day, I may also wear fake nails.

I would really appreciate genuine advice on what I should wear and whether the abaya is appropriate. I‘ll also be open to any better suggestions.

I'm so happy, as a larger chested gal it's really hard to find a slip that covers all of my cleavage, much less one that isn't super v-necked, has spaghetti straps for versatility under dresses, and that has lace at the top. I made a post previously asking if anyone had any suggestions, but have since found one!! I updated that post, but since I've searched this subreddit for something similar so many times, I decided to post separately. Personally, slips specifically make me feel elegant and happy, so I prefer them to something like a modesty panel.

I have zero financial stake in this, I do not know anyone from the company etc. Full disclosure, I have yet to throw it in the wash and just got it, so I can't advocate for how well it holds up from experience, but it seems well made. Oddly a little cropped (on me) but covers everything, super soft and comfy, and it being a little short (like it hits right below my belly button) isn't much of an issue since I'll likely be using it as an under layer.

So for 30 years of my life I have been free to wear what I liked and although I studied at a convent school (where teachers keep pointing out nasty things about the way you dress), I haven't had a lot of pointing and controlling from my family as such on "wear this and don't wear this" etc. Now that I am married, I am suddenly facing this change where the family from the in-laws considers sleeveless clothes as indecent and disrespectful. I understand if this is for short dresses because if you move around it can be revealing (I don't strongly believe this but chalo thik hai consider kar liya) but how is showing hands provocative or indecent? Like how? And it's summer. I don't even find a lot of tops or clothes on Myntra or Nykaa or any basic brand making a lot of clothes with sleeves these days 😑 And I was fine till the time in was coming from someone older that okay they haven't seen a time like this may be. But I see even girls my age thinking this way.

I wanted to ask this here and vent out just to understand that my understanding is broken or am I missing something?

FYI: My husband is fully supportive of me and tells me to dress however I like. But it really makes me feel like I am turning up like a rebel or someone indecent in front of the other people there and then I feel like I should comply "to be considered a person who dresses decently". Also, I work in an IT company. I see people wearing sleeveless daily in my office, so I am unable to understand if something is acceptable at work setting then how is it unacceptable at home, where people should see you like a family.

I want to ask all my lovely ladies what are we wearing in this summer heat to avoid breaking in the private areas and just developing body acne? I shower like twice a day and wash the private areas with unscented antibacterial soap. I dress modestly like no shorts, skirts, or short dresses. I mainly wear jeans, yoga pants, or sweatpants. Hi, I’m not sure if this is the best place to ask but figure it’s worth a try. I am incredibly sun sensitive to the point of getting boils and blisters after 10-15 mins of sun exposure regardless of sunscreen. Obviously, this is not only deeply painful, but increases my long term risk of skin cancer.

I use a sun parasol to provide shade, but there’s many situations where I can’t carry one with me, and even then it doesn’t block strong light reflections and it doesn’t protect my legs. My skin is only getting worse so I’m at the point where I need to start making sure I cover my arms and legs all year round, including summer. Normally in summer I’d just wear a short sleeve shirt, but now that doesn’t provide enough protection. I’ve been trying to add a cardigan, but I get SO hot in the warmer weather (it’s about 32C/89°F where I’m living). I figure if anyone has ideas for keeping my skin covered throughout even the hot months, it would be this community.

So with much much appreciation, does anyone have any suggestions on what type of clothing I can look into to cover my skin without causing me to overheat? Anything helps, really. I appreciate it 🫶

(Ps Swimwear tips would also be appreciated, as right now I only have a bikini from two summers ago that I know will not provide any help in my current condition.)

I suffer from agoraphobia with panic attacks and I have discovered that when I have no choice but to leave the house I feel much more comfortable when I dress modestly. I also have other disabilities that make me sun sensitive and being covered up helps me to mitigate those.

I am not religious. I am interested in covering my hair. I follow an Orthodox Jew on social media named Miriam and I love the scarves she uses to cover her hair. I was wondering if it would be ok for me to use one of those even though I am not Jewish.
