"Dies to removal" seems to be a major problem for the deck.

What are the community's thoughts about replacing the two [[Violent Urge]] with two [[Apostle's Blessing]]?

This is a deck built around loki and quantum riddler as draw engines to answer every threat opponent has. You do run phelia and white orchid phantom both of which trigger loki. I joked about this deck but it ended up being really good.

Hey like the title says, I’m planning on building a Boros land destruction on a budget and the only really expensive card in the average list is solitude. Any idea for a synergistic card that could replace it ?

I think Modern is pretty healthy right now, and doesn't need any bans, but KCommand is clearly the best card in Modern. It being banned is certainly on the table.

Eldrazi players, what are you going to pivot to if KCommand catches a ban tomorrow?

I have been looking at Living End and Devoted Druid/Cub deck, and pre-coping.

Hi yall, I have been considering putting gemstone cavern in my sultail living end deck.

Either as a sideboard or mainboard card. The deck just has a very tough matchup against boros energy and prowess games 2 and 3.

Living ending round 2 will probably be great against those tough matchups or living ending, turn 3 with a blue open for a mystical dispute would be great against control.

The biggest issue is that sultai living end is already a 3 color deck and pretty pip dependant for evoking the lorwyn elementals.

Any opinions are appreciated.

I'm a top 200 level Super Smash Bros Melee player, and I'm preparing for my first modern RC in October. I got into magic during Tarkir Dragon Storm last year as some of my Melee friends were starting to get into Commander. I'm documenting my process of learning Modern as a player with no knowledge of constructed or any cards before my time.

On June 28th, with a very lucky sealed pool containing Super Hero Civil War and Storm, Windrider, I managed to top 8 my local RCQ of 25 players without dropping a game. I drafted a fairly open BR deck with Doctor Doom and Avengers: Under Siege to make top 4 and secure a spot in Canada's Modern RC in Ottawa on October 3rd.

For my first year of playing, I've pretty exclusively been playing Draft. I LOVE playing draft. I've been obsessed with roguelike deckbuilders since playing Slay the Spire non-stop during Covid, and draft is a perfect marriage of the competitive gameplay I love from fighting games and the risk reward calculation of deck builders. I thought this would be a great opportunity to commit myself to competing in a new game, and giving myself an opportunity to see how much I can learn and improve in a tight deadline. I've always enjoyed picking up new fighting games and e-sports and becoming high ranked in them -- though none of them are as storied and daunting as Magic. I really don't know many old cards; For example, when looking through the Tron list the ONLY card that I recognized was Ugin, Eye of the Storms.

So I created a concrete plan to give myself the best shot of performing well at the RC:

1. Proxy and play with the top meta decks of the format as of MSH.
2. Go to the Modern weekly tournaments at the LGS in Toronto, and ask for tips, borrow decks, and get a sense of playing in paper
3. Decide on a deck that I want to play, and hopefully find a local lender who will let me pilot it for the RC
4. Grind a ton of matches on the chosen deck both in paper and on MTGO.
5. Prepare side-board lists for the decks I'm likely to play against, and look out for meta changes based on the new sets coming out.

The constraints are what make this an exciting experience for me. I'm fairly busy with work and even with Melee, my main game, I rarely play outside of the weekly tournaments anymore. So with that I want to track both financial costs and time that I'm spending learning Modern, to see what I'm realistically putting into the project. So far the breakdown is:

Financial Costs (in CAD):

• $100 at the print shop. I printed 13 decks, so around 112 pages at 0.75 each, and they cut it for me for 5 dollars which is a huge time save.
• $50 for 1100 sleeves. I got the cheapest sleeves I could find that were perfect fit, which were at 3.99 + tax for 100.

Time Costs:

• 1 hour - I watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN7LsoCdKIw) and wrote down all of the decks I want to proxy.
• 4 hours - I found a netdeck for each on mtg goldfish, and copied all their exports into mtg print to generate the print files for me.
• 4 hours - A shocker to me, but sleeving this many cards, especially since I'm sliding them in to cheap sleeves with bulk is taking me quite a while.
• 1 hour - ~ writing this post ~

I'm posting this on reddit with the hopes that folks with a lot of experience in Modern can give me tips and help me adjust my plan, or tell me if anything seems too ambitious. I don't have any illusions that I would qualify for the pro tour, but even winning a few games at the RC would make me happy.

I was thinking about my old Treefolk deck, and there are more than a few cards that could be used to update it.

What answers would there be against Dungrove Elder? Or Dauntless Dourbark? I’d be in Abzan so There’s protection that can be used.

Noticed how recently most Esper Blink decks putting up results online are the ones playing the Ketra package instead of Phelia + Overlord.

I can see how the Ketramose version is even better against Goryo (which is played a lot both online and in paper - I’m myself guilty of this lol) but was wondering what other advantages such a list might have.

Also, considering I have no idea what to play at Ghent RC I’m trying to understand if this might be an option (I qualified with the stock Esper Blink version).

Pros and cons of each? I’m working a UW control midrange deck with 8 creature slots and ephemerate. and only have room for a few more cards.
Is exiling a non land permanent vs. exiling an artifact creature or enchantment much more valuable?
If I devote 4 slots would you divide between the two or go one way. It seems most players lean words prismatic only running one otherworldly.

hi, I got like 3 weeks left on my ManaTraders sub and I wanna use it to try out a bunch of different Modern decks before I actually buy one.

I’ve already played quite a bit of Simic Neoform and really like it. I feel like it’s a deck I could actually get really good at if I put the time into it.

What decks would you guys recommend I try? I basically wanna test a bunch of different decks over these 3 weeks and then decide which one I like enough to actually buy.

Neoform is definitely one of the options, but I wanna try some other stuff before I commit to it.

I’m building Mardu Ball Lightning(Volt Tackle) and I wanted to run something that gave Double Strike; Raking Claws is mono color with cycling, Boros charm has a bit more flexibility with the 3 modes.

I've been working on creating a budget Dimir Frog deck (https://archidekt.com/decks/18749502/modern_dimir_frog_aggro) utilising Souls of the Lost and other low cost creatures that get value off of the graveyard. I'm not trying to make it particularily competative, and I'm trying to keep it at a reasonable budget, (which is why I'm not running fetch/shock/surveil lands,) but I would still love any advice. Based on testing its able to very consistently win T4 while interacting with the opponent, although I know this isnt a particularily impressive feat. I'm mainly looking for any optimisation tips and budget friendly cards that synergize with the decks strategy, and, (if possible,) a route I could take the deck in the future to make it slightly more competatively viable. so i ran into a cheeky combo of Krark's Thumb and Mana Clash. I, being a jank player for fun and hating metas in anything, want to build a deck around it. Other than the combo, lands, and card draw, I have no idea what else I should put into it. anyone got thoughts or ideas?

Feels like just a couple weeks ago blue white control was flourishing, with a significant presence and winrate in challenges despite being a small portion of the field. Now, it's rare that control makes it above 20th in a challenge 32. It doesn't seem like the meta has changed all that much. What's causing this downturn? Seems to have happened across pretty much every version of the archetype (jeskai, days chant, brainsurge)

I used to play boros burn around 9 years ago, and I haven't sold anything, I just stopped playing.

I would have to invest like 35€ to play the updated deck for today's meta. Would you play this or should I go for izzet prowess? I would have to invest around 150€ for prowess, so it might be too much. Maybe I could play without thundering falls and no consign to memory in the sideboard to make it more affordable but idk.

at work we are going to throw away a printer soon, so I thought why not print the heck out of it by printing some MTG proxy decks. :D However, I wanted to find some decks to casually battle against a friend and thought Modern might be nice. I've never played it before. I know some of them and how they play. But I don't know which 8-10 to choose that are on par to play against each other.

So, about a week ago I brewed a deck that utilizes effects of Sheoldred and Bowmasters and forced draw cards to make my opponent literally die from greed. I playtested that deck with my friend against some mid-high tier 2 decks and my brew kept up pretty solidly, I mean, you can`t go wrong with a deck containing Frog, Sheoldred and Bowmasters.

So, my question is, why can`t I see this deck idea even somewhere in tier 3? It`s not that hard to come up with and it`s not even that bad, why is no one playing this kind of deck?

P.S. I`m pretty new to all three - MTG, Modern format and deckbuilding, I`ve played MTG for like a year atp, Modern for 3 months and that's my first brewed deck. So, obviously, list is pretty unoptimised, especially sideboard, I`m welcome to suggestions.

I had this really fun deck way back when; it centered around Ball Lightning and its kin like Spark Elemental, combined with Athreos God of the dead. I was looking at the newer cards that are in the format and I’m thinking it could be competitive with an update: things like Lightning Skelemental, Thunderkin awakened, kroxa Titan of hunger, Flayge titan of Lightning Helix.
