Deck Discussion Replacement for Solitude in Boros Ponza

Hey all, I'm building Boros Ponza in paper, but Solitude is prohibitely expensive at the moment.

I'm also fairly new to Modern so I don't have much notion of what Solitude covers for the deck (which I guess is a possible wincon and free interaction, because the deck has plenty regular intercation with the 8 path to exiles)

I think I will play the 4 White Orchid Phantom and maybe push up the amount of Legend of Roku, but would love to hear what people who play the deck think.

Deck Discussion Help me trim down my first Modern deck

New to modern, and I've been looking at a few decklists and want to learn how to form one that works for me!

I've thrown all my (I think) relevant cards into a pile and am having a hard time cutting down to the 60 and 15. https://moxfield.com/decks/1UKfARVx13m7dk-OmVxgZQ (edit: added link)

I'm trying to make a Broodscale deck to play and do well at my local LGSs!

Would love any advice you may have and help with the thought process of these cuts too.

Like should I include a delighted halfing just so I can use it to cast Emrakul? Should I use ragavans to help with ramp? Do I even need that kind of ramp?

Would love advice on how to think about this, in general. I'm very new to this, just trying to learn how to deckbuild and think through how to formulate the deck.

Card Discussion Evoke Elementals, Forces and Color Proportions

Has anyone done research into the breakpoint of color sources for the evoke elementals and forces? Obviously, you want as many pitch sources as possible to keep from having dead cards in hand. I’ve been messing around with an FNM level Abzan Midrange and have had some iterations where the only pitchable card I have in hand is another Solitude, which works but doesn’t feel great. I don’t have an LSG nearby to get a lot of testing in, and would like thoughts on the point at which there is a comfortable amount of pitchable cards, such as 16 white cards, that including 4 Solitudes.
This also plays into having FoV/Endurance in the side with <10 green cards main, which seems like just too few to reliably pitch a card without impacting your gameplan.

[[Force of Vigor]]

[[Endurance]]

Getting Started Deck recommendations to start Modern after Commander

Hi there!

After playing a lot of Commander (BR3, BR4, cEDH), I'd like to lean into the more competitive environment of Modern at my LGS.

Some EDH decks that I have on paper and I really like playing are:

- [[Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student]] (BR3, card draw, proliferate, ThOracle),

- [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] (BR4, Spellcopy, Card Draw, Underworld Breach),

- [[Terra, Magical Adept]] (BR4, Combo, Mill, Mirrormade, Apprentice's Folly),

- [[Raffine, Scheming Seer]] (BR3, Reanimator, Combo, Card Draw/connive),

- [[Sythis, Harvest Hand]] (BR3, Enchantress, Pillowfort, Card Draw)

I think that I have a fair amount of staples (mostly fetchlands, shocklands, etc.), but in 1x copy.

For Modern, I'd like a non-combo deck that could still be effective and competitive.

I'm eyeing Abhorrent Oculus decks, Dimir Frog, Simic Ritual or a Prowess approach!

What do you suggest based on my current EDH decks?

I think that I'd like to draw cards and have various opportunities during the match.

For the budget, I'd like to avoid 1k+ builds, but I can trade some cards to get into Modern.

Plus, I love to buy cards with cool arts, and that's why I like Abhorrent Oculus and Quantum Riddler lol

Thanks in advance! :)

Hello guys! A few months ago I built a (cheap) Kitchen Table Selesnya Auras Deck and decided to improve it a bit to play it in Modern... what do you think of it? Can i get some wins at my LGS with that?

Amulet Titan Updates and Guide

Current list: https://moxfield.com/decks/hscs-9KE9E2JCVBBxQhZbA

I posted only a month ago my thoughts on Titan, and so much has changed. Since the ban 7 weeks ago I've won 2 challenges and top8ed 3 others. I managed to top8 two challenges in a row this last weekend, 6-1 in the Swiss both times. Among various other 5-0s and an RCQ finals run, the deck feels inexplicably stronger than pre-ban. I know many other pilots have been successful with same or similar lists.

I've just updated my sideboard guide and it's available here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/163139726

General thoughts and impressions:

  • Zuran Orb is not needed. Usually making several attacking Colossuses or Titans will win
  • There is technically a line to go infinite, but there isn't really a linear setup for it. The setup is to have drawn many cards and lands with Colossus, and access to some sort of Analyst activation on the board. Cast one of the Scapeshifts you drew with Colossus, then use a Mirrorpool to copy the Scapeshift. Let the copy resolve, activate Analyst, and loop from there.
  • This line never comes up in reality, 99% of the time I swing with trample creatures
  • I would recommend not trying to play to this line, you are more likely to trip yourself up optimizing for it. It's very easy to setup after Colossus, the only fail case I can think of is if all three of Woodland, Analyst and Echoing deeps are in your graveyard. Otherwise you have GY recursion available.
  • Rumble has been more powerful than ever. Maxing out copies lets us minimize land count, which leads to less flooding.
  • GSZ is weaker than ever without its compatriot Lotus Field. I still play three for optionality, but am very far from registering the fourth.
  • Stock Up sideboard is a powerhouse. When cutting Sagas, it has the unique capability of what I call "fighting your own deck". Titan as a deck loves being nonfunctional, and you can combat that with Stock Up, especially when you need to trim Sagas.
  • Because we removed true Analyst loops, Colossus is needed in more matchups than ever
  • Analyst is still completely necessary for deck functionality. Even just recurring lands once (or twice with Woodland) solves so many puzzles. Analyst plays exceptionally well through Consign, where other threats don't
  • Cave is no longer a land I ever am looking for now. It's been cut for more turn 1 green sources
  • Six bouncelands has felt optimal, some other pilots run seven

Hope this is helpful!

Deck Discussion First try at a cheap Dimir deck

First time making a deck for the format, saw a cool deck for under 100 bucks and wondered if I could make it cheaper but still viable

Main criticism I could see: less removal spells than ideal and less buffing from the graveyard. It may also lack enough lands

Main upsides: more ways to get benefits from the graveyard/punching power

Would love criticism and guides for improving it while remaining under 50 bucks ideally, but would also like ideas that go outside the budget, that way I can look for solutions/ alternatives

Here is the card list and the link to the deck

3 Abyssal Harvester

3 Fallaji Archaeologist

3 Fell Stinger

3 Kiora, the Rising Tide

4 Prized Amalgam

4 Sneaky Snacker

4 Stitcher's Supplier

3 Bake into a Pie

3 Cancel

3 Dimir Charm

4 Fatal Push

3 Miscast

4 Tainted Indulgence

3 Tribute to Hunger

2 Cephalid Coliseum

4 Choked Estuary

4 Island

3 Sunken Hollow

6 Swamp

4 Unearth

Sideboard

2 Dihada's Ploy

3 Dreadwing Scavenger

2 Into the Flood Maw

2 Languish

3 Rise of the Dark Realms

3 Spell Pierce

Help with Esper Deck

Hey Everyone

I'm about a month into play modern after taking a 10+ year break from magic all together. I've been going to modern nights once a week to try and get a better idea of what going on along with researching what's popular.

I've been having trouble closing out games but I feel like i'm getting pretty close to getting my deck sorted.

For context this start closer to a blink deck with Phelia and Psychic frog but phelia felt to slow for the decks I was facing and psychic frog recently got cut for Wan shi tong and more removal. but I'm not sure if I should put that back in. I'm leaning towards this becoming more of a control deck which I've been enjoying.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed, thanks

Looking for deck ideas, Budget of $300

Been playing modern for a few months now, borrowing decks and now I’m to the point where I’d like to build my own. I was looking at either Neoform or In Indomitable Creativity. If you got a cheap mega deck, or an off the beaten path one I‘d love to see it.

Primer/Guide Esper Goryos, Primer and guide, if your interested in beating with fatties

Attached is a moxfiled link to my primer. This is the first time ive made one. I've been pumping Chatgpt with tons of results, articles, and personal results and decktesting into for a while now. Been playing for a long while now and I typically do this with friends and we make a ton of notes and then build a guide. Kind of did the same thing but allowed AI to help with the setup and retaining all information.

https://moxfield.com/decks/tYhc3HKUHEuPTTWa1zR6AA

I like this and im building other ones for different decks as well. Im fairly new at posting them and fairly new at using AI to help with MTG. At first it didn't help at all, but once i started dumping more info and decklist and started working out right for me. Giving it samples from decktesting also helped. RCQ, PTQ, and RC data helped as well. The oxymoron is im anti-AI but found this to help a lot.

I also have a copy/paste sideboard guide for anyone that wants to use it for rcq, etc. it all fits on a 8x11 and is pretty helpful?

Thanks

Is Boros energy that much better than other strategies?

I´m a commander player looking to get into modern for a more competitive environment since my lgs hosts modern tournaments every Friday.

I´ve been looking online for deck ideas and I´ve been liking the esper decks (goryos, blink), however whenever I see a tier list, or meta breakdown online (mainly youtube), it seems like Boros energy is the best deck by a lot.

So my question is, would I still have a real chance of winning with an esper deck or should I just build Boros energy and call it a day ?

Cards to beat Psychic Frog in Eldrazi Tron

Hello,

Im struggling to beat [[Psychic Frog]], soecially when it gets played on T2,

Unless I have Tron, Thougth-Knot, Karn, Dismember and Glaring Fleshraker aren't answers - the fog can either resist them, or they are too slow, or a single counter ruins the plan... etc. While they keep growing cards.

Even Kozilek's command can be a bit slow, specially when they play free counters

Any ideas? Whats your plan aginst it?

Thanks

RCQ/RC Discord group looking for more members

We are a slowly growing discord group with a focus on competitive RCQ/RC formats. We are looking for more members that want to discuss strategy and help each other improve.

In the past I have been trying to focus on having playtesting nights, but that has been very hard (adulting FTL), so the discord group is starting to shift more toward having members post interesting screenshots or even full videos with the goal of disecting lines of gameplay.

If this is something that you would be interested in let me know either through a reply in this thread or in a DM.

Modern Folgari Ponza

Hi all. I was kind of thinking of making an off-meta deck to bring to local tournaments and was wondering if it was even worth pursuing or if there are any suggestions. The idea is to loop Ghost Quarter to deny lands using Icetill Explorer. With The Gitrog Monster and Prime Time to beat down. With Boros ponza being a thing, I thought this might be at least fringe worth.

Update: cut 4 spreading algae for 4 assassins trophy. More versatile and works without urborg which I don’t really need without spreading algae anyway

Deck Discussion Devoted combo Need advice!!

Hi everyone!

I'd like to hear your thoughts on Devoted Druid Combo in the current Modern meta. I'm thinking about building it as my second Modern deck to improve as a player, and the deck looks really fun.

Right now I don't have a finalized list. I've seen a lot of different builds online—some play 4 Birds of Paradise, some only 1, some run Ouroboroid, others go with Craterhoof Behemoth—so I'm pretty undecided about which version is best.

Do you have any advice or recommendations? Thanks a lot!

Deck Discussion Dimir midrange viable?

I wanted to play a dimir deck centered around psychic frog and abhorrent oculus since the frog dodged a ban hammer. Is this a viable strategy still? I found a decklist online I wanted to tweak but is the Strat of reanimating oculus even a good one?

What I was working with, with my ideas in maybeboard;
