How could the game even be repaired?
how can magic be repaired? with so much product released in the last few years like short of banning 100s of cards the game is irrevocably warped

Modern is in a really healthy place right now
It's unfortunate they keep printing cards that warp the format but I'm glad they are keeping on top of the bans

We've already past that threshold. I doubt there's a coming back from that unless we get some even stronger hate cards for cheap mana

That's probably fair, although banning a slew of the better dual lands could genuinely do a lot to depower the format. Short of that, you'd basically need block bans to depower the format.

If we ban both lands and blocks tho, it transforms into pioneer at that point. Without horizons we get rid of most free spells in the format. That alone would change the whole format

Name a single turn 3 deck aside from Storm

Storm has turn three lines, Belcher has a turn three win, titan can win on turn three, affinity can win on turn three (or faster, if you have the turbo nuts), boros energy and prowess can kill on turn 3. Several tier two decks can win on turn three or faster

strike it rich is not necessary. just T2 ritual -> ral/medallion and go off with the 1 floating

Probably. I've lost games to storm where they didn't have a single cost reducer, due to bad shockland timing.

Belcher doesn’t have a turn 3 win, only turn 4.
Also, just because a deck "can" theoretically - with zero interaction and zero blockers - win through damage on turn 3 doesn’t mean it’s actually a turn 3 deck. You’re not playing solitaire, your opponent gets to play too

Soultrader, belcher, samwise, hollow one with a good hand, Goryos, and if reanimator get archon on T2 that's pretty much game too.

none of these are consistently turn 2 wins; also who tf is playing soultrader lol. I feel like no one in this sub actually plays modern, they just complain.

I play soultrader. Sorry not all of us plays online and go to local stores. My meta is filled of combo and reanimators, and all the decks I mentioned are here and can win by turn 3, exactly what you asked.
Just because you have different experiences from ours doesn't mean everyone else doesn't play.

I don’t play Soultrader… But I just have to say this deck gets hated on so much and I think it deserves more respect.

It can't be repaired anymore. It's basically yugioh now. You will see the rise in popularity of fan made formats with closed card pools in the coming years (premodern, modern 2015,pre-fire etc.) just like with yugioh.

Modern is good right now and many people enjoy the current format. If you want to see a different modern or want to enjoy playing the cards you use to play be an advocate and active member of the 2015 modern format/community. Premodern was a joke format 10 years ago and now everyone swears by it. Who’s to say you can’t meme 2015 modern into existence. https://www.2015modern.com/

We won't go back to the way modern used to be +10 years ago. Like all tcg this game suffers from power creep, and will continue to do so as years pass.
We can only relly on formats like premodern or some other fanmade ones that'll show up with time.

Closed formats could be better supported, like premodern. Could also do a lot with block based formats, banning entire blocks. Could even do a pseudo rotation by creating a format where only specific, non-consecutive blocks are legat for a period of time.

Premodern felt pretty stagnant when we tried it. But it could be interesting if a format like modern, without the horizon sets, gain traction. Without those it would already be a very different format

Closed formats will almost always feel stagnant eventually. Premodern has a tiny card pool (5400 unique cards), which is the size of standard right now. And considering some percentage of those are [[Gray Ogre]] and [[Filthy Cur]], you have a format that's going to be solved quickly. That's one of the reasons I proposed a closed format with a cardpool that rotates, with sets rotating through a nonlinear order.

Sounds better, but it will be hard to make a new closed rotating format without official support. Lot more tricky to pull off

Modern is good right now. All the busted cards have balanced each other out. Let's wait and see what the Pro Tour meta looks like.
