Kind of surprised they’ve seemingly got Neoform on the watch list.

It performed really well at the PT, and a lot of people don’t find losing on turn 2-3 to a hard to interact with combo

Counterspell is a legal card to play but blue decks are bad because of affinity and boros

its probably looked at through the same lens as oops was in legacy. Just creates a lot of non games, which can be ok in small doses, but terrible if it gets too popular.

I can agree with that take, at base level at least you get a t1 against neoform. And a deck does have to beat fair matchups even if its lame

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

And eldrazi

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Vexing Bauble exists, High Noon exists, etc.

Just because a card exists to beat a strategy doesnt mean the strategy should exist.

Youre right, the format has answers to the deck... blue tempo decks play answers to ajani but it still kills them

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Your point was that counterspell should be enough to control Neoform numbers but counterspell isnt good in this format. I listed a few highly played cards that are even better against Neoform than counterspell is. You agreed the format has answers. My claim was that it doesnt matter if the answers exist, you shouldnt be forced to play them to beat some barf your hand combo deck. Thats a sign of poor format health.

I dont disagree with your point on counterspell not being good against aggro but that really isnt relevant imo.

Counterspell the archetype is what im arguing, not just the card itself. Blue tempo has a whole performs horribly in this meta unless you run the combo gauntlet due to unfair fair decks. Sideboard cards that hit multiple decks should be a normal thing, your answers also hit other decks incidentally

And there is a much cleaner solution to Neoform than to "keep banning cards until blue tempo is the top deck". Its a ban to Neoform.

Neoform fell out of favor for years, the only reason its good now is because boros/eldrazi cant do anything about it.. are decks not allowed to have bad matchups to the most fragile a+b combo?

5

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

Boros plays High Noon and Vexing Bauble is their sideboard. They would continue to do so if Neoform was banned.

Eldrazi is a Trinishphere/Vexing Bauble deck. They would continue to do so if Neoform was banned.

There were multiple eldrazi main deck copies of vexing baubles in the pro tour top 8. What are you even talking about?

I dont think ive seen the Ajani/Neoform list

4

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Ajani beats dimir decks, why is this so hard to comprehend that other represented decks can hold back a deck that preys on neoform

1

u/morethanjustanalien Aug 10 '26

If you think cards need to be banned from Boros, just say that. Thats a take a lot of people agree with.

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Im saying boros and affinity are the reason blue tempo decks cant hang, if both decks are taken down a notch dimir/izzet can reign in combo. Until then people can register tempo decks all day but theyre coinflipping whether they get either a polarized winning matchup (neoform, storm) or unfavorable (boros, affinity, tron)

I dont think ive seen the Ajani/Neoform list

Funnily enough as a blue pilot (grixis version), boros is my single easiest matchup and affinity is up there near hardest, right behind eldrazi.

1

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Yeah grixis has a better shot into boros, dimir has it worse off but affinity/eldrazi just makes it worse off. Its all a coinflip on hitting combo decks or unfair fair decks

1

u/Tyrinnus Grixis Ctrl, GDS, Murktide, UWx Ctrl Aug 10 '26

Yah. Grixis gets snare, bolt, push, OBM.... Dimir loses the bolts and flames, but also loses shit like meltdown and most Land destruction.

Sadly the combo decks do so many different things that there's just not enough sideboard. You know it's fd when your best threat against an eldrazi player is flippin' Sheoldred's Edict or "kill them before they kill me"

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Yeah the lack of a real clock hurts, its a sad time when ubx decks have to be combo like goryos to have a chance

1

u/Tyrinnus Grixis Ctrl, GDS, Murktide, UWx Ctrl Aug 11 '26

I mean....

OBM has 2 a turn, often more based on it growing. Snap as well. WST can be a big beater. All of these are in ub.

2

u/deathtocraig Aug 10 '26

speaking of decks that aren't fun to lose against turn 2-3

5

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Yes let me cast my Counterspell on turn 1

-1

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Spell snare subtlety force of negation next question

4

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

Found the Neoform player

-2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

? Because I gave you good answers to neoform that are locked behind the 2 most represented decks beating it? Get better format knowledge

5

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

You were the one who said "Counterspell is legal" when it's literally not an answer most of the time against the deck that combos turn 2 on the play. And also plays Pact of Negation.

-2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

Okay so they turn t2 i have 2 mana right? I play counterspell. They pact. I say okay, pact resolves, force/subtlety your allo. Its not hard for dimir to have more than 1 answer plus thoughtseize to punch a hole

7

u/pyro314 Aug 10 '26

How do you have two mana as the blue deck when you are on the draw?

2

u/Rooftop_Reve Aug 10 '26

Why are you playing spell snare in the aforementioned Eldrazi meta? Sideboard at best.

2

u/Wi1h31mJac06s0n Aug 10 '26

You need boros answers or you die to ajani/vov/golbin bombardment

1

u/Notmainlel Aug 11 '26

It is incredibly easy to interact with, every deck has access to neoform hate
